  1. We worry about cache descriptions eventually slipping down the Very Slippery Slope of commercialism and eventually becoming billboards for advertising (whether thru overtones of advertising, marketing or promotion, thru sheer volume of "little mentions here and there," or some combination of both). The best way to avoid falling down the Very Slippery Slope is to not get on it at all. That said, we know that the local reviewers make a judgment call. We thank them and respect them for this sometimes very hard work. We know that the local UK reviewers may act differently from, say, the reviewers in the Czech Republic or those in the Pacific Northwest section of the USA (just random examples). I trust them to make decisions that are good for the local community. Thanks again to the reviewers. You do good work.
  2. Thank for to geohatter, MrsB and to Graculus for their earlier replies. Well said.
  3. I'll take another moment to quite briansnat: Be nice, everyone.

This forum is supposed to be "a friendly social network for GPS enthusiasts around the world." Please treat Groundspeak, its employees, volunteers, fellow community members, and guests on these boards with courtesy and respect. Personal attacks and inflammatory behavior will not be tolerated. Please read our full Forum Guidelines. You may start a new forum thread of a similar topic as long as everyone behaves nicely.
  5. Toz, http://www.geocachin...guidelines.aspx Did you not read the last paragraph of the Introduction? The email address appeals [at ] geocaching [dot] com still exists as it has in the past. It's just not a great idea to spell out an email address on a webpage like that. We get too much spam by doing that.
  6. I am happy to hear this. Both of the pages you mentioned have been in the KB for many, many months. It's just that not everyone has found their way there.
  7. Great! I hope many other poeple feel the way that you do.
  8. I am quoting briansnat's text in full to give people a second chance at reading it.
  9. Indeed, the guidelines page has been edited. I'll repeat what Keystone already said above that our intention here is not changing the guidelines - just re-organizing them. Made it easier to read and to understand by re-organizing and shortening. The longer explanations are in a while new Knowledge Book which are an extension of the guidelines. There is a different KB chapter within the Knowledge Book of Geocaching called the Review Process which is really separate from the actual Guidelines. We hope ,too, that this change will bring even more eyes to the Knowledge Books. It is full of lots of good information. As palmetto already mentioned above, if you would like to look at a "fully exploded view" of the Guidelines KB, here is what you can do: http://support.groun...g=kb.book&id=11 Near the bottom, click the Printer Friendly Version. Voila: http://support.groun....friendly&id=11 Don't forget, of course, that the first page is still this same old URL that we have always used: http://www.geocachin...guidelines.aspx
  10. Guidelines For Placement, Listing And Logging We have edited the guidelines page: http://www.geocachin...guidelines.aspx What did we do, basically? Note that it has three major sections (Placement, Listing and Logging) Made it easier to read and to understand by re-organizing and shortening. The longer explanations are in a whole new Knowledge Book which are an extension of the guidelines: http://support.groun...g=kb.book&id=11 There is a different KB chapter within the Knowledge Book of Geocaching called the Review Process which is really separate from the actual Guidelines.

  14. TerraViators, This thread petered out in naturally enough Sept 2009 and you bumped it for some reason. I'm going to send this thread back to its slumber. If you would like to start a respectful new thread with relevant new thoughts, feel free.
  15. The original questions have been answered more than adequately: thanks to those who provided facts and helpful context . People are starting to get snippy so let's walk away.
  16. I moved this to the Geocaching Topics section. That is the more appropriate place for this thread.
  17. There is not, sabrefan. You could add that as a suggestion here, if you like: http://feedback.geocaching.com/
  18. I've missed you, soup. Have you considered the Wonderland Trail at Rainier? Many people who tackle it take 2 weeks to hike its 93-ish miles. You could make it longer. More muck-coverage possibilities. Family could possibly meet you at certain points along the way.
  19. Andi, Thank you for your patience. It's coming. http://www.geocaching.com/goodies/
