  1. I just take it out and toss it away. Thankfully most of what we find isn't TOO bad. And I don't think I'd recognize a joint or marijuana bud anyhow !
  2. This is brilliant - the different "angles" to an intersection. I'll have to remember this. Thank you.
  3. Okay - we accosted the poor FTF'ers as they were leaving the area, and they were very gracious, and gave me a hint (told me that the co-ords were off by about 14m for them, and the cache was above eye level for me). Worst part is that I'd looked in the area it was in, just not far enough "around" the post. Major D'oh. Missed a ftf because I didn't know how to look for it, but had fun, and met some nice people too !
  4. The owner stated that some of the nanos he places are magnetic, others are "vials". Do not know which this one is. But HOW do I start looking for it ? The area has a few trees, wood fence, chainlink fence, and a sign on a metal post (I've been all over that sign already !) within an area about 3 sq. metres.
  5. I'm attempting a NANO search for the first time, today. Actually, been out twice today looking for it with no luck, giving up after 15-20 minutes each time to come home because the kidlets are cold (we live VERY close, about a 90 second walk away). What are some strategies for searching for nano caches ? I've got the area narrowed down - we've looked for small holes in the trees, magnetic pieces on the poles and fences. Right now though, it just feels all "willy nilly", the way we're searching - no strategy, no plan. Help ?
  6. EasyGPS didn't work. GSAK didn't work when I put in that I have an eTrex Legend, but did when I put in a generic USP GPSr. *shrugs* Fast download of 100 caches, I love it. Thank you !!
  7. I did say, actually. Garmin eTrex Legend. I'll go look up GSAK. Thank you.
  8. I've got a Garmin eTrex Legend, and I'm using Firefox. I'd love to be able to send more than 1 cache to the GPS at once, instead of having to do each one by hand. I can run a pocket query, but haven't figured out how to send that file to the GPS - if that is even possible, or the same information at all. Help please. Thank you.
  9. Definitely against the spirit of the rules - creating a hole where one did not naturally occur.
  10. I pretty much ONLY cache with kids in tow. We are a family. And we homeschool. So, the kids are with me almost 24/7. I don't see any reason not to take them along. This activity seems more family-centric than adult-only, anyhow - it's an oversized, fancy scavenger hunt. My kids are : 7 yr old boy, on the autism spectrum, with ADHD. 5 yr old girl. 3 yr old boy. Nope, not a quiet bunch. But they "kind of" get the idea of being secretive when we're in a more public place. Out on the trail the other day, when my 3-yr old was the first to spot a cache, his little voice calling out "I see pea-buh jah, Mommy" was much more enjoyable than finding it myself and calling them over to see. Each kid gets a piece or two of stuff (is that the "swag" ?) that they are allowed to swap/trade. They're catching on to the trade-even or trade-up concept, even if it is hard for them.
  11. No doubt that they are more interesting to read. And much more satisfying to the cache owner as well. Does that mean that a "TFTC" is a bad log ? That the cacher doesn't care, is bored, etc ? I just cannot wrap my head around reading that as a total brush-off.
  12. If a n00b doesn't read the forums - and let's be honest, most don't - how would they know that saying "THANK YOU FOR THE CACHE" is not acceptable ? I don't recall seeing that mentioned anywhere else. I thought the game was the hunt and find, not being expected to write full essays after.
  13. Easy answer for me - since I've only got one hide All Around The Grassy Pitch
  14. New to caching here, in the easter part of the GTA, Ontario.
  15. He's aware. He's made comments on the log back in June 2009, and January 2010 asking for someone to add paper until he could replace the log book.
  16. This particular cache was on the last page of it's log in May 2009. Now, the log is full, both sides of every page, and both covers. There are pieces of paper, and at a soda bottle wrapper with names and dates on them stuck in with it too.
  17. Thank you. I'm still new, and afraid that my input won't be taken seriously. Though, looking back - it was May 2009 that I start seeing comments mentioning the need for a new log book !
  18. What qualifies as 'needs maintenance' ? A full log book ? A damaged cache ? How damaged ? Contents slightly damp, or outright wrecked ?
  19. Okay - I'll blame it on the fact that I'm blonde for now, but I still don't understand that. Whichever one creates the text that shows up when you hover over the icon on the page is the one I mean.
  20. I try too, and am a little nonplussed that my 7-yr old is doing better at finding the 'harder' rated caches than I am !
  21. Some of these are absolutely awesome containers, great camo and such. But others are enough to completely discourage a new cacher from even bothering to go looking.
  22. What is the difference between an alt-tag and a title-tag ?
