  1. How about making it a real travel bug? Leave the keys in it. Log the cords where you picked it up and then log the cords where you leave it.
  2. So using a stuffed animal as a cache container would be ok? G-O-Joe did the right thing - if in doubt ask permission
  3. If you are leaving soft swag, please place it in a zip lock. I've come across too many soaked and/or dirty stuffed animals.
  4. Magellan MapSend Direct Route on my Explorist 500 shows that I'm in the ravine about 300 yards from my house when I'm actually in the driveway. Once I get to the highway its dead on. I drove to Atanata (about 500 miles), accurate all the way. On the way back I took a shortcut through the Smoky Mountains, much less accurate. It seams like the map makers have given urban areas and major highways more attention. Overall they are incredibly good.
  5. Haven't been to a cache event yet. Do you bring TBs that you've found or new TBs so that someone else can place them for you? How do you log the TB trades?
  6. Average age? Yes, I'm an average age....for people my age.
  7. Please don't give it to me, I really don't deserve it. Please give it to someone that is deserving of such a wonderful give.
  8. I've seen threads on it, but don't recall what the topic names were. In general though, the PDA isn't rugged enough for use in geocaching. I've dropped mine on the rocks and in the mud. Not sure a PDA would stand up to that.

    Gps Maps

I believe you can see the maps without being a premium member, but the options are grayed out. Its worth the $3/mo to support the guys who build and maintain this service, even without the extra features.
  10. Rare - never take the right stuff. Like long pants!
  11. I agree, I just bought the 500 and its great. Its a new unit and there are several threads that discuss it in detail. I also agree with CoyoteRed.
  12. I just bought the Explorist 500 a few weeks ago and its a great unit. The overriding reason I went with the Magellan over the Garmin was the SD card. With the SD card you can load as many maps as the card will hold. Cards are available up to 2GB. On the other had, the 56mb on the 60c/s should be more than enough to cover a tri-state area. Although I highly recommend the Explorist 500, it maked sense to stay with the Garmin and not purchase new maps.
  13. The forums are great on bad weather days and are also a great source for information.
  14. Don't forget the maps if the unit you buy supports them. Maps can cost more than the GPSr but are well worth the money.
  15. I bought my card on e-bay for $76+ shipping. Guess I should have shopped around.
  16. I have a 44mb region loaded on a 1gb card and it works great. The 44mb region covers three quarters of Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.
  17. Thanks for the advice. I use 100% deet, not because it more effective, but because I can use less and carry a smaller container. (I guess that makes it more effective )
  18. Use the search feature. You'll find several threads with step by step instructions.
  19. It's not a hop if your feet don't leave the ground. Then the shortest hop would be outta the cache, logged while hopping, and then placed back in the same cache?
  20. I think its a great idea. I've been wondering what to do with all of the old Thumb Drives that don't have the capcaity I need anymore.
  21. It won't take long and you won't be able to lift it. Send it to Ohio so I can add my collection. I must get at least one a week.
  22. Dropped the GPSr in the mud a couple of times, but haven't lost it yet. My claim to fame is setting the keys down in the trunk.........doh....and then closing the trunk.
  23. Great review! I’ll be watching this post for updates. Thanks
  24. Heaven forbid no - I Love old westerns!! Old westerns! Great Idea! Hope I don't find too many though, I may not have time to cache anymore
