  1. Sign up as a premium member here. Do a pocket query to get the caches you want. They will be sent as a gpx file in a zip format. Download GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife). Drop the zip file on the desktop icon or in the open database window and it will unzip into GSAK for you. GSAK will happily download the info into your GPSr. It is really pretty easy to do. I use the "get data via e-mail" feature and it's even easier. GSAK will search your e-mail, find the PQ and load it for you. Couldn't get any easier.
  2. Special pricing on the Explorist 600 If you're looking at the Magellans, the Explorist series is the way to go v the Meridian Color.
  3. I use the "Get data via e-mail" feature in GSAK......no downloading, no unzipping, no dragging and dropping........the only thing I ever have to do with the PQ's now is delete them from my inbox. That is one great feature....thank!
  4. Thanks TT, just got mine in the mail too. Thanks for putting all the hard work into it, it's appreciated.
  5. You might like what I do. I log the cache 'found' on cachemate when I find a cache. I fill out the Took/Left/TB lines. At the end of the cache day, I bring up the 'found' tab on cachemate and select the 'export' tab under 'Cachemate', near the bottom of the list. This sets up an export of that date to the Palm Desktop Memos. I hot sync, at home, and all the log entries are uploaded to the Palm Desktop Memos. I bring up the Palm Desktop program and geocaching.com and copy/paste the info. I know one can upload all the data to geocaching.com but I sometimes want to expand the log description once I am back home. Thanks, I'll give that a try.
  6. Yup. I've been using the PSP (available at Mallwart for $7) for two months now. I never use the wall adaptor anymore, just plug it in while traveling and it charges while I use it.

    New Gps

The Vista-C is a Legend-C with altimeter and compass. If you're not a gadget-addict, you won't feel the difference. Jan For $ 279 [+shipping+tax+maps] you can get into Explorist 500. Worth considering...............(I'm on the Magellan side.....can you tell)
  8. Although I’m sure that the other programs work well, I’ve never had a reason to look at them. GSAK and Cachemate have out performed my expectations.
  9. The point may fairly be stated that if you have rechargeable batteries you must plan ahead more than if you use AAA’s.
  10. Point taken. To sum it up, Magellan is for the occasional drive by geocacher. Those who also have some serious use in mind use Garmin or better. I can live with that, I guess. Jan That’s a loaded statement…..
  11. Congrats…….now get the rest of the family addicted so they can drive
  12. I'm with BlueDeuce I often leave stuff but rarely take stuff, but I do like to see what's there
  13. I DNF’d a 1/1……….and this was a true 1/1. The next day someone posted a “Found It”. I was 100% sure it was missing, and 100% wrong. Once I DNF, I add that cache to my watch list. Often the owner will post a note saying that they checked on it and it’s “In Play” or someone else will find it.
  14. My albatross Roselawn Micro Seven visits and counting
  15. My first find was a large ammo can next to a log. I had to accidentally step on it to find it. Now I actually see spider webs across the trail before I accidentally eat the ugly arachnids. A little experience helps. It’s always fun going out with a new cacher and watching them circle endlessly [or as long as they want to look before giving them a clue] looking for something you’ve seen a hundred feet off. On the flip side, I’ve got one albatross that I’ve hunted seven times (and counting), took a newbie there and the newb’ found it in 20 minutes and then sat back and had a good chuckle as I continued to stumble around. (I didn’t want any hints so I still haven’t found that one – but I will ) It gets easier……start with a few 1/1 type caches until you get used to it and find an experienced cacher to go with (try posting in the regional forum). Good luck.
  16. Great idea............I was doing a multi and forgot to write down one of the clues needed to find the final Phone a friend worked but I had to wait for a call back. Wireless at the local rest stop would have saved the day as I just happened to have a lap top in the trunk.
  17. So far just zip-loc type bags (and I've used a bunch), but I like your idea.....fixing up a cache would be much nicer than just e-mailing the owner that the log book has the consistency of a spit wad and that gold fish have taken up residence in the container.
  18. If you do a second run I'm still interested. Thanks,
  19. I'm interested in 10, but I’d like to see the design and know the final cost first. GC trackable - preferred Other trackable - indifferent Numbered - absolutely Year - yes please put the year on them
  20. Ok, I'm a bit late, but I'll take 2 if they are available
  21. Found the link to the other forum...I'll post there.... thanks
