  1. matejcik - thanks for the reasoned and detailed answer. It makes perfect sense and actually reminds me of my experiences with the first cart I followed - yes even the PPC version can get blind to following the arrow! I thought the answer to the zones may be as you describe - I just have to set them all up again now - and sort out the OnDistance (I have lots of If's in the OnExit anyway so should work) Thanks again, and apologies for doubting you!
  2. Well this is because of the way Garmins work differently from PPC type devices and do not fire the OnEnter until you zero in. I am trying to find a happy balance to use the OnProximity instead of OnEnter.
  3. Well I put up a WIG and the first comment was that the Garmin users had to zero in on the coords to get the OnEnter to fire - they asked me to make the zones larger! Now this works fine on my PPC type so I can only assume they do not work the same. And yes, I have read the other thread where you have claimed that they work, all I can say is not enough devices work for my WIG to be acceptable. So I guess the OnExit works only if you have zeroed in and OnEnter has fired? Not a realistic option. I have nothing to test with, any other answers out there?
  4. Another PPC vs Garmin question I am afraid! (am trying to get a cart that will work on both with no Garmin to test on!) I am trying to set up zones of about 20m Which works best for both platforms? 1 - Very small (1m) zone with 20m proximity 2 - 10m zone with 10m proximity 3 - 20m zone with 1m proximity Any help appreciated!
  5. Well OnEnter does not work correctly so I thought I would ask! What have others used instead of OnExit? I guess I could put some of the code in the OnProximity but I really would rather use OnExit or an equivalent. We really could do with a list of things that do not work on the Garmin platform as a pinned topic.
  6. Thanks for the offer Ranger Fox, but a local geocaching reviewer has helped me out. The .jpg pics I was using were too large, I needed to follow the guidelines on size. I have no idea why the .gif worked, but it did! I had assumed that the builder would resize them as I had the option ticked - well, you know what assumption is!
  7. At the time of the crash it is only 3 zones active. I have made sure no more than 8 zones will be active at once. It does appear to be when the .jpg characters are clicked on the command 'talk'. Like I said, the .gif works???!!
  8. Hi, I put out my first Wherigo, tested it to death (or blisters anyway) with my Android, then put it live, only for it to crash the first 3 users to try it. I have created 5 characters - one had a .gif image, the rest are .jpg The .gif works OK but the .jpg shuts the garmins down! According to the pinned thread .jpg's are the way to go - so is this the issue or should I be looking further?
  9. Oh, I am still going to do the cards, just not in one day. It turns out my wife (see my logged finds) has a pack of extra small cards, which will fit in most micro's too! No time for a stamp, but will make my mark on them!
  10. After trying a few more caches to judge timing there is no way in hell I am going to get 52 in one day! For a start I will be on my own, and 4 out of the last 5 I have found have been spotted by my caching buddy, and secondly it took a lot longer than 10 mins to find one! My very rough calcs put this at almost 9 hours, and that is assuming I get all the ones I look for. Thanks to everyone for the advice! Nope, I think I will just relax and have fun on my day off (caching of course!) Although there is a challenge over here to do 6 different types of cache in one day...
  11. I use Cachemate on Android - works really well for me. I download all the caches in the area and upload them on to it - from there the app works perfectly. Try a few apps and see what works best for you.
  12. Thanks to all who replied, I take on board the points about getting all the caches too soon, however apart from this one day I will not get much of a chance to go caching (two small children stop that!), so I will get one or two a week apart from this one time. I am going to enjoy the day, I will be on a pushbike cycling between caches so there is a lot of excercise involved too maybe too much! Will have to stop for a beer or two en route! And one final update - MY NEW PHONE ARRIVED TODAY!!! Up until now I have been caching with Google Earth printouts - now I have GPS!
  13. Ooh, interesting, will these be another Jersey based cache explosion?? (for those not from Jersey one family published 40 caches in one day once!) Just checked - my date for this jolly is June 26th! oooooooo!
  14. Oh, to clarify my idea was to drop a playing card in every cache! The opposite of the old game '52 card pickup'!
  15. Hello, I am new to all this, have got 12 caches already and quite enjoying it! I live in Jersey, channel isles (roughly N 49° 14.938 W 002° 06.572 - Jersey No.1 Cache) - it is an island 9 miles by 5 miles and 190 caches! As far as I know this is quite a concentration! My question is this: Is it possible to do 52 (new) caches in a day? I have a Saturday in a few weeks with nothing to do, family all away, no work sceduled. Should I buy a pack of cards and get on my bike?
