I wonder when this bug will even be acknowledged.

OK, I just went back to check both a "nearest" listing and a PQ with a center point, neither was sorted by gc code on even the first page as suggested here and even though both had the same center point, the sort order was different between them.

PQ's that ONLY have a date range or similar usually are sorted by date or waypoint code, I forget which. PQ's and other queries that have a center point should (and have for several years) be sorted by distance from that center point. For this specific example you do appear to be correct but I think that's a fluke and its definitely not true as you go to the 2nd page and beyond.

Is no one else noticing this? Its been broke for several days and is affecting any list that should be sorted by distance (nearest caches, pq previews with a center point, etc).

Find counts are a good thing. When I'm looking at logs, especially dnf's, I'm going to give way more weight to a log from a user with 1000 finds than one with only a few finds. If I see a cache with as low as 2 dnf's from experienced cachers, I'll probably think the cache is gone and won't waste my time, but even if there is a string of dnf's from low count cachers, I probably won't jump to the same conclusion.

Just copied and tried to run a PQ, hasn't run yet. This used to be fairly instant, now its been close to an hour and still hasn't run. Several times in the past couple weeks I've had trouble running them toward the end of the day.

It seems to be one of those features that they thew together at the last minute and never finished developing. Up until recently the page you set up the notifications on even said it was a beta feature. I'm sure it falls under the "hobby code" classification that they like to throw around as an excuse for poorly developed areas of the site. All of these features have been requested multiple times: - More than one cache type per notification - Range greater than 50 miles (at least 100) - Ability to use home coordinates as a center point instead of having to key coords for each notification, especially a pain since you have to do this for every single cache type. - Ability to choose will attend and attended on event type caches (why not, you can choose ever other type of log for every other cache type, why not on events?) I could probably find others if I kept looking. None of these request seem to have been acknowledged with any seriousness.

gc doesn't offer any operating system. If your asking if the site will work on your 64-bit system, its JUST a website, nothing more, it doesn't depend on anything except a working web browser on your system.

Why? They don't seem to care that I don't visit the site for 95% of the caches I find now, why would a new cache be any different? Most people here (except for ftf seekers, newbies, and maybe a small handful of regular cachers) work primarily off PQ's, not off the site. Why are the "rules" different just because its a new cache? I would support .gpx files being attached to notifications.

Are you sure anyone is watching your caches? The text isn't there at all if no one is watching.

If this is about rating forum posts, I really don't think it would work well here. There are just too many people here that refuse to acknowledge there is a problem to the point that they argue against it and many of those same people are opposed to changes and new features. I really believe that if Jeremy hadn't posted publicly about the site being down last Friday you'd have a dozen people in here swearing that it was up and they used it and there were no problems. Those are the same people that would flag any real and useful posts negatively.

Your missing the point. Its about opportunity. I load my gps (which holds 2000 with full info and I could load coords only for considerably more) in the morning because I don't know what part of town I'll be in at the end of my work day. 500 doesn't even begin to cover my potential work area, 2000 doesn't either, but its a better stretch than 500.

If the PQ has a center point, then the closest 500 are always returned. *** Note, there is currently a bug, introduced in the last site update, in distance sort orders not being correct that may bias the output. This was fixed, then broke again the next day. Because of this, there is no guarantee that the closest 500 are actually returned, although they do appear to be.

This is a highly complained about bug that existed BEFORE the "my finds" query. Despite several threads on the subject, its never been fixed or really even acknowledged by anyone from GS.

Even with the "run once then delete" you still have to select a day. This way you can setup your vacation queries and such ahead of time and they "should" be ready when you wake up.

Problem has cleared up.

When I preview PQ's (existing, always came up correctly in the past), they are no longer sorted by distance.

Once your on the page you want to change, add this to the URL: &dist=100 Or what ever distance you want. With miles you can specify anything up to 1000, not sure if your setup for kilometers.

Just FYI, there are entire organizations built on the concept of denial of a problem, most end in the word anonymous. There are simply too many people having issues to deny a problem.

It's amazing with that much easy money floating around, you think you guys would have started your own trouble free site by now. Its kinda the same as the ebay factor, first in town, people flock to it and just won't hit a second site, but again, just like ebay, their thinking they are the controller of the world will eat them and they will start having problems, they already are.

I sure there are other costs, most of which are probably free because they are all donated. How did you come up with 80,000 premium members? was that a number generated in a drunken stupor? Jim Yeah, and by the time you take out reasonable numbers for all this, there is still no question that a significant profit is being made. 80k times $3/month is 240k, If their expenses are seriously even 1/2 that then there is some serious mismanagement of how that business is run.

Thats not been my experience. In fact I've seen some older equipment that did DD.DDDDD (decimal degree's) and DD MM SS.SSS (degrees, minutes and seconds), but not DD MM.MMM. I've never (until about two months ago) seen it as default format on a GPS. There are also major mapping programs out there that still do not (as of 2009 versions) support DD MM.MMM. (Streets and Trips has never supported it) Working with surveyors I've also learned that its a very rare format. The only place I've ever seen DD MM.MMM used as a default is here. Oh, it was default format on my brand new Oregon 400t, but that was a first for me, but being a caching focused unit, I could see the point.

If you use gsak, you could use one of the field notes export macro's, I think there are three or four different ones. - Go through your finds, flag the ones the kids were along with you on. - Filter the flagged caches - Export to a field notes file - Upload the field notes to the kids account. Now the child can log them at their own pace without having to flip back and forth between accounts and opening multiple windows and all that. If your not familiar with field notes, once they are uploaded to the site they are fully editable before being saved and logged. So the kid can read whatever you had, type their logs and save it. This way it doesn't become a burden to do them all at once or have to figure out where you left off every time you sit down to log a few. All of the field notes will stay on the account until they are either saved as logs or deleted.

Vinny (or anyone): Do you think this is or will be an issue in other states as well? I happen to live in "the cave state" and there has hardly been any mention of this at all by local media, or any of our states web sites (department of conservation, state parks, or others) when I looked recently.
