  1. 15 days was the longest I have ever gone without a find and THAT was killing me, lol! I can't imagine going months, even though I have only been caching for 10 months.
  2. 50,000 finds?......daaaaamn!!!!!!!!!
  3. Lately there has been a cacher placing Lotto Scratchers as FTF prizes. I won 3 times out of 9 FTF's. I personally like using $2 bills for my good hides because kids love em!
  4. aww, if anyone has an Android then I highly recommend the caching app known as c:geo. It is the #1 best third-party app for caching and has waaay more features the the official Geocaching App. I paid 10 bucks for the Official app and it doesn't compare to the free c:geo app for my android. Please no haters! I do understand that c:geo is cutting corners into the Geocaching website and may be causing server lag, but the Official app by Ground Speak just doesn't cut it for me even though it is slowly getting better. I try and stay clear of all the politics and just have fun with what works well for me from finding caches. thank you
  5. On some of my special hides I state in the description that I do not allow spoiler pics of the actual container and/or camo. If a cachers reads this and still posts a spoiler pic I would delete their log and kindly ask them to re-log without the spoiler pic(s).I don't mind spoiler text because most of others logs dont describe the cache as detailed as a picture.
  6. I have been using this same avatar for years (other forums etc) It's Gordon Freeman from Valve's Half-Life PC Game Of The Year in 1998!
  7. Ok this is very upsetting for me, I have met angelsfan several times and he is an awesome guy. I don't understand how someone could mistake him and his daughter as anything bad such as this? Although I am not surprised about the nosey couple that called on you. When Makahummel and I went on that same trail to grab the Multi-cache we ran into a similar issue. While grabbing the "speed trap" cache a lady driving by in her car stopped and starred at us for a really long time. The friendly guy that I am gave her a nice wave when she proceeded to call someone on her cell phone and speed off. Hmmmm I wonder what we were doing wrong? As we headed down to that first waypoint we saw some people playing with there dogs but they didn't pay attention to us. About 5 mins later we saw a cop pull up in front of that first cache where the lady spied on us! haha wow! the residence around here are paranoid jerks we thought as we walked down the trail to the next wp. Nothing ever happened after that. This was the same exact park which was why I was not surprised about the cops showing up, but to come to your house and ask those kind of questions is absolutely unnecessary. I will say we live in a safe crime free area, but the police department here [profanity removed] with nothing better to do then to harrahs the innocent. I'm sorry, I have been through a lot with cops and geocaching, but I never let it get me down. This game is embedded deep in my blood and will never die. Sorry to hear about this bro, hopefully this problem blows over and you and your daughter(s) can still go out to enjoy a nice day of caching.
  8. While working a saw one of my co-workers poking around the bushes in the parking lot... I asked him what he was doing and he told me he was Geocaching. I thought it was kinda interesting so that night in May of 2010 I signed up and found my first cache in the parking lot at my work (the same one he was looking for)and I was instantly hooked!!! That co-worker of mine goes by the name of gummibjorn, thanks buddy!
  9. I use my Android (GPS Averaging app) for some of my hides and it produces some pretty good coords. Sometimes depending on the location (like trees and building around) the coord are way off...and when that happens I just use this. The site works well, GZ is always within 2-6ft of the cache.
  10. What kind of container was that? I loved that you put rocks on the lid, playing on the hint. Well done! It's just a screw top plastic kitchen container. It's probably wouldnt stand up to being totally submerged, but it sits at the top of the bank of a bayou so water will not collect there, so I feel the contents will be fairly safe as long as people screw the lid back on. Contents inside are in a baggie for extra protection anyway. Very nice camo on this one! I dig your work:) You should see when i camo myself... .but... well NO ONE sees me then. LOL! you should camo, hide and publish yourself as a cache and when someone comes to claim the FTF you pop out and scare the living sh** out of them!!!

  12. Right on, nice to see ya on the GS-forums! It would be awesome to cache with ya bro. Haha thanks, Glad to inspire you to construct a cache like this one. Yeah I decided to leave the cut the way it is, I spoke to a couple of the cachers who found it and they said it was not very noticeable at all! Yes, I think I've got the hiding bug!!! I planted 15 caches in just under 2 weeks. but only 9 of them are in my home town Rancho Santa Margarita. I plan on filling up the town to the MAX so that when out of town cachers search the map my town stands out from the rest!
  13. Well, well...it's awesome to see the one and only gummibjorn in the GS-Forums! Thanks bro, I don't want to reveal any details in the cache description abou the camo and this thing is pretty beefy so the edge is not a big concern. As for the hinge? no problem! the lid is not allowed to cock all the way back and cause any damage. I think it last through the weather and moderate cacher abuse.!
  14. Because the CO may be 14 years old and doesn't see it as an insult, or take the game too seriously. Although they could also be in their 20s and smoking the funny stuff and think it is humorous. They could also be in their 30s and have developmental issues, or be in their 40s and going through a mid-life crisis. It may be also someone in their 50s, and pretending to be someone else to hide their activities from their spouse. Or it could be someone in their 60s, in a misguided way trying to communicate with their geocaching grandchildren. Then there is the possibility of it being someone in their 70s who doesn't see it as an insult, or take the game too seriously, or they could be in their 80s and smoking the funny stuff and think it is humorous.. Well done.
  15. The way the lid is shaped wont allow the hinge to be pulled on. In other words, the lid hits the back of the stump before the hinge is fully opened. Bugs were a large concern as well...I think most cachers hate retrieving a container and have a family of ants or earwigs pouring out and all over their hands! eeek! Hopefully the wood treatment works for awhile. Will do.
  16. Now this is what I was afraid of... , by posting these pics on the forum and some of the local cachers would see it. Your the first familiar cacher I have seen on this site and don't show anyone else we might know. I might have to delete this log to prevent furtue spoilers (sorry I blew it for you Momster, bt you still dont know the name or where it will be hidden. ) Now that was my biggest concern, I didn't want to stick it close to urban areas because of muggled activity, but I also dont want it waaaay out on some trail because it wouldn't get a lot of attention, maintenance would be a pain and flooding was a concern too. This will be a premium hide so hopefully cacher abuse will be at a minimum. I picked a spot that is off a bike trail and well hidden from hikers, but it's not far from the town. The trail is right behind a parking lot of local business's and the path is hidden from the building windows with trees. As long as cachers are cautious and wait for hikers to pass, making the grab will be safe and stealth. The hinge will be on the back side not facing the trail, which should help a bit until you get close to it. However, I do like the idea that some of you mentioned about covering the crack with moss etc. The cache is already in it's spot but I have not yet set up the page to be published.
  17. You may have missed this from my first post, drainage has been accounted for.
  18. Now the final results: When planted I will take some pics of the cache in it's natural surrounding and post them in this thread. If you have any questions feel free to post em', any feedback is appreciated.
  19. cont. I mounted magnets on both the top and bottom to secure the lid down prepped and painting of the hinge for the lid attachment.. Next I dremeled and notched out the a space so that the hinge sits flush with the surface to hide the hinge as much as I can.
  20. Hello, my name is snapshot7 (Travis) and I would like to share my first cache project with my fellow Geocachers! I chose a small plastic peanut butter jar as my container. I then painted it a dirt like cammo and glued a rubber seal inside the lid because these jars are not water tight. Here is the cammo that will blend in to it's surroundings well. It is a semi-large stump I pulled from a nearby trail. I then cut the top off and prepped it for drilling. After the hole was hollowed out I poked a straw through the bottom for drainage and completely sealed the base with Gorilla Outdoor wood glue. The shade of green you see is a wood protection solution to prevent decay, fungus, insect infestation etc... I then sealed all the remaining cracks to ensure the structure of the stump stays intact and also to keep rain from damaging the container itself.
