  1. Many thanks you to you both. I might try the first and contact the second. Best wishes.
  2. At the end of April we are travelling to Japan and will spend time in Tokyo and two other locations as yet undecided. We hope to find our 3000 cache during this visit. Is there one "Must Do " cache that you would recommend for this milestone? Best Regards ...... John WearyBanker
  3. We are visiting Japan at the end of April and hope to find many caches there. We will be based in Tokyo but we hope to visit at least two other parts of the country ( as yet undecided) It would be most helpful if we had maps for our PDA that we could use in the same way as Memory Map here in England. By that I mean a set of maps on which our position can be shown by the inbuilt GPS and onto which Cache coordinates can be overlaid. Do you have any suggestions?
  4. Does anyone know where I can find any maps for caching in Japan that will fit into my PDA and operate through Memory Map. We will only be there for a fortninght and so I would prefer not to spend a fortune on them.
  5. In the car we use a Tom Tom Go 720 SatNav, into which I can download a POI file of caches from GSAK. The Icon for these POI is always a reddy/orange square which I would like to change for a home made one more representative of that particular trip. I have asked the Tom Tom Help line how I can do this, but they cant help. Anyone else felt the need to get rid of the Orange square?
  6. I assumed that it would have been raised before somewhere but even after following the link I am not really much wiser about WHY an alteration cannot be made.
  7. I wonder if it is possible to change the links at the bottom of the new cache notification email? Currently it contains :- Visit this log entry at the below address: http://www. ( Which is on the cache page in the next link) Visit Cache Name of cache http://www. ( The information that we really want, giving name and type of cache ) Profile for Graculus: http://www. ( Interesting but when you have seen it once ....... ) Notification: New Notification http://www. ( OK if you want to change your choice) Instead of the first and third, for example, could we not see who has set the cache and perhaps have a link to their profile. I am sure that others will have ideas for what they would like to see too.
  8. The quality of new caches is a subject close to my heart, too. I have read, with interest, what others think makes a good cache and it just goes to show that we are all different. When we set our first cache I can remember reading in the guidance notes something along the lines of " Dont just set a cache in a spot 'because you can'. You are recommending this place for others to come and visit and above all , enjoy." I have tried to find the passage recently to quote to someone but unfortunately it seems to have been removed. I believe that one of the problems today, is that newcomers are allowed to set caches before they have found sufficient themselves to understand what makes a good cache and indeed the responsibilities they are undertaking for maintaining them. We recently had a cache down here in the southwest set by someone who had not found a single cache. Noone could find it and it has now been archived by Graculus. Whether a cache setter is a new cacher or not, unless visitors to the cache are prepared to be truthful in recording their thoughts in the log, the setter is not going to know what others think.........................or we can just bury our head in the sand and opt for the inane " Easy find. TNLN Thanks" and watch as the number of substandard caches dilutes the enjoyment that we once got from this hobby. Anyone can throw a 35mm container under a gorse bush in a layby, unfortunately too many now do. OK, I've had my moan. Back to you.
  9. I like puzzle caches. I like setting them and I like solving them. When a new one comes out around the area, I will print it off and put it on the clipboard for attention on a rainy night when there isnt anything on the telly. Some time ago, I printed off the puzzle part of a cache, solved it but now can't find which cache it relates too. Dont you just hate it when that happens? http://img.geocaching.com/cache/22557794-5...cce1958dd6c.jpg http://img.geocaching.com/cache/7780c01b-9...645a026ba29.jpg Unfortunately, the puzzle only give the answer to the degrees after the decimal point. I am fairly sure that this cache is down in the South West somewhere but does anyone recognise it?
  10. We are off for a few days in Barcelona next month and of course will try to collect some of the local caches whilst we are there. Does anyone know of any maps similar to MemoryMap that can be downloaded onto the PDA that will carry the GSAK overlays of the caches. Free download is preferred as we are only going to be there for 3 days max. Thanks.
  11. It may also be a help to know of any machines on which Wherigo DOESNT work. I wrote to the forum back in April 2008 about the problems that I was having with my new P3470 and contrary to the previous indications that the originators were watching all problem emails and would answer them, I didnt receive any help. Consequently, I havent tried any since. Shame.
  12. Many thanks.............Job Sorted. I will kept a note of the website for when the other coin with the wrong card comes up for issue.
  13. My wife has bought a number of coins from various websites over the last year or two. It looks as if the original packets may have been mixed and the card with the contact details for the activation code is incorrect for this coin. If anyone has a Java Junky coin can they please let me know which site has the activation code. Alternatively does anyone have any suggestions how I can find out. Thanks.
  14. Many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to reply. There is still time to add to the list.
  15. Thanks for those. The Hunters Stones and Brimham Rocks Earthcache ( We did Brimham for the Thifty last trip) are both to go on the list of caches to do in the week but I am not sure that we have the ideal 2000th yet. Any other offers?
  16. Keep them coming. We have logged the Pump Room but unfortunately on the day that we went, the switch wasnt working. I have no doubt that we will visit again on this visit to complete the task but ofcourse will not be able to log it again for the 2000. Thanks Henry for your suggestion but I think it is more likely to be a plastic cup and jeans !!!
  17. We are looking for a memorable cache, a special one to do for our 2000th which is likely to be during the week of the Mega event in Harrogate. Unfortunately I dont think that we will have enough caching time available to get our count up to 1999 so that the Event itself will be the big one and so we are looking for a cache to do during our weeks holiday. I am looking for suggestings from cachers who live or have cached in the area of Harrogate ( or within travelling distance as we are staying near York) for a cache to fit the bill. It doesnt have to be a 5/5 just one that is a bit out of the ordinary and which you enjoyed particularly. Thanks.
  18. Thanks Rutson, for your continued interest. Happily, I can now report that Team Balders win the Jackpot with their suggestion which has worked. A pint/ coffee/Devon cream tea awaits them when they next get over this way. Thanks everyone.
  19. Thanks for the interest. Let me try to give you more information Yes, I use GSAK and from there, I download the csv file for Memory Map. I also download the GPX file from GSAK which I transfer onto the PDA. I have the cache details in Cachemate on the PDA --I also have the caches on the map but when I click on the 'Open File' the PDA tries to get the information on line, rather than from the gpx download. I imagine that it has something to do with the "file" path in Properties but cant find what to type in. Does this make sense? Thanks for the advice Team Balders, I will try that next.
  20. Hi I have been promising myself for ages that I would get Cachemete and finally I have got around to it in time for our caching break which starts TOMORROW. Everything seems to be working fine except that I can not open cache files from MemoryMap which was one of the main reasons for getting it. I think that it may be something to do with the 'Properties' of the cache page on MM. What should I type into the 'File' box to establish the link off line. Any help would be appreciated as neither of the tutorials that I have read seems to cover this.

  22. It is a little worrying that there have been no recent posts here. So, is it just me having the problems? With my old XDA ii I could load the Wherigo Player but when I tried to play the Tutorial, it took a very long time (ie 30minutes to find the GPS and send the Welcome message). I never went any further. I assumed that the problem was because it was an old machine and used a remote Bluetooth GPS. We had been thinking of changing for sometime, to get something with built in GPS. We bought HTC P3470. I tried to download the Player again today on the new machine and have exactly the same problem. So what is it that I am doing wrong, please.
