  1. Cupid came on Friday He dropped off: Geocoin Thief-- VERY cool coin that one is. and 2 Benchmark Micro coins: Whitney and Center My mission is finally packed up and ready to roll. Took some doing to pull it together but I think it will go over well.
  2. Just to echo the other posts. This was a VERY classy thing to do and much appreciated. This coin will also have a special place in my collection to be shared with friends.
  3. What nice surprise. This is a most kind and generous offer. (And much appreciated) U.S. Army Jan '71 thru Jun '79 RVN '71-'72 e-mail sent
  4. Same trouble here with AOL. Last notifications were a couple days ago and they seemed to slow then stop. They have had throttling issues in the past so I wasn't too concerned but it looks like it's more widespread this time.
  5. When I started I avoided micro's on the advise of other, more experienced cachers and stuck to the "Small" or larger caches. You definitely do develop an "eye" after some experience. As others have stated: "Read the previous logs." I use 2 basic methods if I am having trouble. Method #1: If I don't find a cache in my 1st few minutes. I step away 30'-50'from my initial GZ and set my GPSr on a post or log or some such. I go back to my initial GZ and start working in a circle around that point until my circle is 10-15' past my GPSr. If I have come up empty I will look at the pointer (I have an electronic compass but you can do the same with a regular compass.) I shoot an imaginary line on the bearing to a point past the indicated GZ. If the terrain allows I'll move to another point 30'-50' from indicated GZ but at a 60-90 degree angle from my initial bearing line and let the GPSR settle for 2-3 minutes. As a general rule this intersection may be some distance from the original GZ and I go to that point and do my circle search once again untill I get back to my GPSr. Method #2: Using the coordinate page on the GPSr I will try to match as closely as possible the posted cache coordinates. (Within .003 is really close enough for starters. I set the GPSR down and do a basic circle search out to 30' or so. Returning to the GPSr I will note it has settled a bit and without moving the GPSr will note the coords and the difference between them and the actual posted coords. Using THIS CHART provided by the master himself (eraseek) I know what each .001 is in feet at my given LAT/LONG. Using the displayed coords on my GPSr I can extrapolate another GZ and do my circle search. I have found that chasing the needle keeps my head down and limits my observation of the area. And more importantly the GPSr never settles down. In marginal reception areas I find setting the GPSr down is really key and often find myself quite a distance from my initial GZ. Two things I have learned: EXPAND YOUR SEARCH AREA LOOK UP!!!!!!!!

  9. There are more people involved and/or interested in this excursion that can be possibly handled via e-mail. I do not have the addresses of all the people that are interested in joining us in Alaska, nor am I clairvoiant enough to figure out who they all might be. I see many trips and excursions planned via these forums. The coordination and input from all parties is taken into account and details come to light that affect others outside the "small group". I enjoy seeing other trips and excursions unfold here even though I cannot join. Why is this trip any different?
  10. I've not done any research other than NorthWes's excellent Bookmark List I suspect I will pq everything in the ANC basin and we can work through it on the flight up. I don't know how access is but I suspect Kincaid Park would probably keep us plenty busy though most of the caches there have not been found recently (Most of them last found in October) so they may be snowed in for the season. We must depend, once again, for guidance from our Anchorage brethren. (Any advice would be appreciated.) We have discussed a few night caches and I see a few have been conquered recently with the braille method being the winning combination. On yet another note it appears the Northern Lights will elude us once again. Aurora forecast
  11. Well if you'd like to join us after you get free for a bit of pre-event caching we'd love to have you join us. Let us know where and when to meet and we can hook up.
  12. On another note. Since our departure has been moved up it seems we will need to fortify ourselves at Gwennies after arrival if thats ok. (Gwennies about 10AM) Would love to have any AK cachers join us for a bite and the day of caching if anyone can make it.

    Finally home

Welcome back. Looking forward to seeing you next week at the ANC event.
  14. Put me down for 5 each of the Puget Sound chapter and 2 each of the other 3 chapters. Thanks
  15. Taku Trickery A fabulous hide in Anchorage Alaska.
  16. LOLOL S'ok Jon, I wondered how the post kept going. Leave it open.
  17. Ur a peach Scobey. I promise we won't burn down the house.
  18. Listen, If I had my druthers I'd haul everyone I know and many I don't along. This post was intended to: #1 Perhaps get the attention of the 5 ACD members I have not been able to get hold of. #2 SHARE with the PNW geocaching community something I thought was pretty cool. This is supposed to be a cool thing, extending our interaction with our friends in Alaska. I suppose I could have tried to put something together to more involve the PNW community but to be honest I didn't have time. I have an excellent relationship with the ACD team. We have not all gotten together since '05 but have talked about doing things together. This opportunity came up and I grabbed it. If the original ACD members cannot go I do have a "Short list" of people I will invite. Once again, I cannot possibly make it "fair" or equitable for all persons in the PNW. I do the best I can.
  19. ROFLMAO Allaon you should know me better than that. Sorry you feel that way. I have attempted to contacted all the ACD members by all the means I have availalable and was hoping perhaps they would pick it up here. Have to admit, I'm feeling a bit envious and left out too, having seen this very public notice, and that GeekGirl and Reino have made the list. Congrats to them for getting invited into this exclusive club. Best wishes y'all for a great time! And CENT5 is very generous to do this again, without question, and I look forward to all the threads describing what a great time y'all had. Would be cool to open it up to others through another contest/drawing, tho, if there's ever another opportunity, so others can share the wonderful experience and meet the fun folks in Alaska. To be honest I had hoped to put together something this year. Unfortunately I was unable to do so. This was strictly a spur of the moment deal and I apologize for offending anyone. I was excited to go and to be able to share with others. I cannot possibly take all the persons I would like to along so I do the best I can. If I remember correctly reino was an ACD member and only got there because Geekgirl could not go. The slots were fully transferable and she did so. My decision was to extend the invite to her for this trip. Since I can't close the thread would a moderator please do so. Once again my apologies to those I have offended.
  20. ROFLMAO Allanon you should know me better than that. Sorry you feel that way. I have attempted to contacted all the ACD members by all the means I have availalable and was hoping perhaps they would pick it up here.
  21. LOL I just talked to him on the phone and he's in. BUT!!! I tell you what. I'll take a total of 10 people (including myself) on the trip. (I've invited Geekgirl to accompany us with reino) If I can't get the whole ACD crew together. (9 people) You have 1st shot at any open slot. Hows your schedule?
  22. This is an open invite to all 2005 ACD team members (You know who you are ) to join me in a true "Cache-n-Dash". It's well past time we all got together and renew old friendships and forge new ones Please join me in a run to ANC for The 2nd Annual Anchorage Holiday GeoFest '06 I've got passes that expire on the 31st of DEC so lets not let them go to waste Tentative itinerary: Depart Seattle Dec 6th Flt 99 at 10:25 AM Arrive ANC 1:12PM Maybe cache a bit (YA THINK?)
