  1. Oh, and I know the cache is still there. It's a popular cache, and has recently been found. So I don't think, it's missing so much as it might be beyond my skills right now. But - I'm going there today, so maybe my luck will change Thanks, C-ko
  2. Hey. I searched for the Harbor Steps Micro cache last month, and didn't find it. I logged it as a DNF. Since then, I've been back there a few times, searching for it, all to no avail. However, I didn't log those visits. Should I have? The reason I don't is that, as a local Seattle resident, I'm in the area every weekend, shopping at Pike Place Market just a couple of blocks away. Going to this cache isn't particularly out of my way, as I literally pass by there on my way to the Market - all I do is stop for a few minutes, search for the cache in nooks I haven't looked in before, shrug, and continue on my way. I feel bad logging a billion DNFs when I haven't found it, as I haven't been giving a commited search for it all these times. I'm also new to geocaching, so micro's might still be out of my league. So, should I be recording these DNFs, or just wait until I find it? (BTW, other cachers, there's an awesome sushi restaurant also on the Harbor Steps!) Thanks, C-ko
  3. A friend of mine told me about it a couple of years ago. I was getting involved in Orienteering at the time, but was frustrated by the lack of events to go to (since I don't drive, I couldn't get to many of them), and neither the communal aspect nor the running around bit appealed to me. So, I heard about Geocaching instead. Much more in line with my meandering, loner self. However, I didn't do anything about it until this January, and I only get out to cache once in a while. But I love it when I do go out, and I'm so glad I got the Garmin eTrex legend, it's been the perfect GPS for my caching wants and needs. In fact, I just got back from placing a travel bug back in the wild.
  4. Found a picture of a stop sign in English and Inuktitut. Made an avatar out of it because it looked neat C-ko
  5. Since I started at the beginning of the year, I have found one cache. Yep. One. 1. Uno. That's it. And that was in early February. So, not very active at all {angst}(In between getting my GPS and now, I have been felled by a bad cold, then a flu, then an asthma flareup. I finally felt good enough to head out Thursday, just to not find the cache I was seeking [Nippon Hana Sakura I logged as a DNF - I will hunt you down until I find you!]. And, as fate would have it, I have now badly stubbed a toe. So, no more caching until *that* heals.){angst} I will valiantly persevere, and strive to find Cache #2 when I can reliably walk again! So. Yeah. C-ko
  6. flask, What's the meaning of 'auslander'? I know it's German, but not really the meaning beyond that. Thanks, C-ko
  7. Thanks for the answer! In thinking about it and doing more research, I decided that it's a moot point for now. I went ahead and ordered one of the Garmin Geko 101 GPS's from Outpost. (I saw the low price, and decided that I really couldn't pass up a deal like that. It's on backorder, but it'll get sent out on the 29th) But this is definitely useful for the future. Thanks again, C-ko
  8. Hey all. I'm new here, and to geocaching in general. In fact, I'm going to buy my first GPS reciever this weekend! But before I do so, I have a question or two. I'm looking at the Garmin Legend. It's within my budget, I like the internal street map (I plan on doing mainly city caches, starting in Seattle where I live), and I like that it can interface with a computer. Now, the question - Is there a way to connect it up to a Macintosh G4 Powerbook running OSX WITHOUT Virtual PC? I'd rather not load that in my Mac, if I can help it, and I'd love to be able to sync it up without using that app. If it's something that I have to run on teh FreeBSD command-line level, that's fine. I just don't like Virtual PC. (If not, I can just connect it up to my old Dell running Win 2000 Pro, but I'd rather use the shinier, faster, prettier Mac.) If this has been covered before, please point me to that topic. Many thanks, C-ko
