  1. I think it is sad that GS does not seem to be listening to public that like the old search. It seems a lot of us have a problem with the new search. I am a premium member and I dont like the search. There is alot of talk even on facebook on how people dont like the new search. I think Groundspeak go back to the old search that was a lot easier to use. I dont know if this will happen because they dont seem to listen to us.
  2. I can say I really do not like this new search. It gave me caching 30 miles from my house. I liked the old search because you could pull up your state and the event caches were first and then the newest released caches. I am a premium member and I can say I have a hard time with the new search. I like the idea of keeping the old search or option of having the new search. I think HQ would see most people stick with the old after trying this new search. From reading the forums I think GSHQ made a big mistake. I am coming up for renewal and if I cant understand this new search I just may not renew my membership. I think I have been a member for 10 years now. I would tell HQ to go back to the old search it seems no one likes it. If I could give a thumbs down on the new updates I would. I have never felt this way before on the geocaching.com site
  3. I do not like the new search for the site. I like it when all the events would come up and the new caches came up. Now if you cant remember an event you wont be able to find it. I dont know if I will continue my premium membership if they don't change it back
  4. I Have different data bases in gsak and put the other ones in and it never overwrote the caches that were in there. when I went in the arcive fold and current and nav folder the caches had thier own gpx now they dont. I could load more caches in and it would not overwrite the last file
  5. I have an oregon 440t. I cleaned out the caches in my oregon. I put in new caches form gsak. I put in some other caches that have and it replaced the caches that were already in there. I did not have this problem before cleaning it it out. does any one know what I can do to keep the caches in there that I already loading in?
  6. I have a Garmin 60CSx and I really like mine. I dont think they make them anymore. I have had my for years.
  7. My sister and my cousins have a team name and when we cache together we put the team name. we also put it under our own names. It would take to long to write all our names on the log. being a cache owner I do not have a problem when someone signs the the team member and they log it also under thier own account. Most of the time it has the names of the team are listed on the team member account. hope this helps
  8. I had a cache that someone sign and I was not sure if it really was cacher. I went to my cache and checked to see if they really had visited the cache. They had and I did not delete their log. I also had a person say they sign my and other caches in 1 day all over the state and I deleted the log. When checking on my cache I like to look at the log book to see what people wrote. When visiting a cache I like to look to see who signed the log and if they put any comments in the log book. If a log book is wet and I cant sign it you might leave a piece of paper in the cache with your name. Also log it when you log the cache on line. I think if you can sign the log in the cache do it.
  9. I think you just have to use common sense. I was familier with the cache owner and I knew he was in the service. so that is why I replace the cache. I have left log books in caches because the orignal was full but I would hope someone would that for me if I could not get to the cache right away. I would not replace a cache that I thought was missing but I would note in my DNF log because it may be in its hidy hole and I just missed it. I have replace swag in a cache because there was none. These were tupperware or ammo cans there was garbage in the cache. which I have taken out. If you are in local area you know who would be offened and who would not. Just my .02
  10. I would not replace a cache that is missing but I know the owner of the cache I replace is in the service. I dont have a problem with fixing a cache or leaving a log book or pencil etc. They have cache fix kits on line. I have replaced logs and left pencils (but you should bring a pencil all the time with you) I just think it is a nice thing to do. I really dont like slimmy caches and stuff. I like to think if a kid comes along they could pick something. I do note in my logs and have not gotten any nagtive feed back
  11. I have fixed caches before. Just recently I replace a cache because it was broken and the contents were icky. The owner has not been on the site for while. I also have put logbooks in caches because they were missing. I have also put extra swag in caches because they were empty. I just figure I am helping the cache owner. I carry extra logs with me. the cache that had a was broken I just happen to have the same size container in my car and replaced it. I wanted the next cacher to find a nice dry log and containter. I know people who carry extra logs with them. I know I do Just my .02
  12. Welcome to Geocaching. You will have lots of fun
  13. Oh, ok. I just assumed that that was the one I had found, as it said it was near a cemetery, and the cache I found was near a cemetery. The cache I found did not have any official Geocaching labels or anything, it was labeled in sharpie. Thanks for the info. I am Camaro_kidd's sister and Not your average cemetary is on Franklin Heights Rd in rochester. I am wondering if in the cache you found if there was a stamp in the can. If there was then it could have been a letterbox. It suprises me there was nothing written in the log book or on the inside cover. Maybe it is a geocache waiting to published. But I thought I would clear this up. I am sure Camaro_kidd would have answered you but she is on a road trip right now
  14. You may want to email the owner to see if they want you to go check on the cache. You can also can go check on the cache to see if it is still there and then email the owner. It sounds like the cache is missing. I have a cache that is a distance from my house and one of the local cachers keeps an eye on it for me and will check on the cache if a DNF logged. He then emails me on the condition of the cache. Just my .02
  15. when I put my caches out I like to leave a FTF prize. I have left 5.00 gift card for Dunken Donuts, Left unactivative coins, Nice little LED flashlights etc. I got a 5.00 gift card for Subway and a pin and a geo caching hat that was made by one of the local cacher now I wear it every winter because it is warm. Just my .04
  16. I had that happen to me the first event that I went to. But the other people at the event were very nice. Then I went to another event in my area and I got to meet most of the people that I saw their handle on caches. They were warm and welcomeing and I got to cache with them which was even more fun. Go the event and have a fun time. It is not all about numbers it is about having fun. At least in my opinion. You will learn a lot from the more experince people and you will hear some really good stories about some of the hunts they have done. If you have questions the cachers will answer them for you. Remember we all started at one time and did not know a lot about caching. I have meet some really nice people in my area at events and when I see them on the trail it is nice to talk to them. Happy Caching
  17. I have used Ammo cans. Lock and Locks, Decon containers. I got Decon containers for a 1.00 from our local army Navy store. It depends on what size you want. The Lock-n-lockes are nice in the winter it doesnt take to much to close them back up with cold hands.
  18. I have bumped into people and I just explain what I am doing. Some people help and some just ask when I see them again "did you find what you were looking for?". I had one person tell me that if they saw a geocache they now know to not take it out of the woods and think it is trash. These people helped us find the cache . I have had to explain to the police what I was doing too. They said OK and let us go back to searching. He stopped becacuse he saw our car park in the spot for awhile and thought we were having car trouble. It funny to hear them radio in they are just geocaching. Then he told us were we should have parked.
  19. I have over 600 finds and I use the hints. but that is just me
  20. I am 57 my sister is 10 yrs younger and my grandniece is 3 and she likes to look for boxes too my grandaughter will cache me and she is 15.
  21. I have a diesel VW so I can fill up and travel for a long long distance. Then I run on the fuel for the rest of the week back and forth to work. This is what I figure I my cost is for a hobby I come out cheaper then with other hobbys I have had. But if you plan your caches you can do a lot in one area and not use much gas.
  22. I was out caching with my hubby and I saw some people in the woods. They were looking around and I thought they were cachers. I talked to them and discovered they were not. I explained geocaching to them and they helped us find the cache. I opened the cache and showed them what was in the box. They thought it was cool how the cache was hidden so it would not be found. They were interested and they said if they came along a cache they would not take it out of the woods as trash. We had nice talk with them and then we all parted company. So it can be educational experience too
  23. How may of them have you reported to the reviewer? Zero. And the reason is that The Team doesn't feel that they are 'buried'. But if you think that, going forward, we ought to suggest to a reviewer that all such caches be archived, then we will give that recommendation all due consideration. Would that be your recommendation? I would recommended reporting guideline violations when you find them. I agree no hole. So if owner thinks they know who complained about the cache there is possibly the person would get harassed. And the owner may be guessing wrong. I know I would think about not report an illegal cache because of what happened to me. I would think let someone else do it. So I guess you have a catch 22 going on about reporting illegal caches.
  24. My questions would be for allowing moderate digging of holes are: 1. What is a moderate hole? 2. Who is going to monitor the digging to set the standard ? 3. One persons moderate hole is another person’s big hole. You know if moderate holes were allowed people would take advantage of the situation and then it would be out of control. So if you say no for everyone then the rule applies for everyone. I am sure that when the rules were set there was some research done on this. The reviewer cannot go out and find every cache he/she approves. When people write descriptions they don’t say in description a moderate hole so how would the reviewer know unless they were told. How many caches have gotten approved because of the cache description and nothing was said about it being buried or stuck in the ground? Then if someone reports it and it is archived the owners gets mad and wonders why thier cache was archived. Just my .02
