  1. welcome to the fun! Sounds like you are starting off right with that gps! Great unit!
  2. I have a colorado 300 and honestly at first I was unimpressed with it when I first got it. Once they came out with some updates I really started to like it more and more. I have had no urge to change units other than possibly to the pn-40 and that main push would be primarily for the satellite imagery on it. Other than that my colorado is great with being able to mark caches found/not found, reading descriptions and hints. I did a dumb thing when I first got it and accidentally erased the base maps. Garmin was kind enough to remote into it through my computer and fix it all back up for me. I have been incredibly happy with their service and quality of their products. I have never touched a Lowrance unit so I have no idea on them. Magellan had horrible customer service. I have talked to Delorme a few times and they seem very confident in their pn-40 and their service also seems to be quite good!
  3. Just a little info for you on the iphone. You may be thinking of the old one there. I love my iphone! Can't wait for the new model to come out this year! As for the iphone 3G: iPhone 3G uses signals from GPS satellites, Wi-Fi hot spots, and cellular towers to get the most accurate location fast. If GPS is available, iPhone displays a blue GPS indicator. But if you’re inside — without a clear line of sight to a GPS satellite — iPhone finds you via Wi-Fi. If you’re not in range of a Wi-Fi hot spot, iPhone finds you using cellular towers. And the size of a location circle tells you how accurately iPhone is able to calculate that location: The smaller the circle, the more accurate the location.
  4. I looked up the site registrant info, im not sure if this helps you or not but there is an administrator contact for them with an email address and number. Unfortunately it looks like they are overseas in the UK but you could always email it and see what happens. I will send you the info i found. Hope it helps.
  5. If I recall right, Google Earth 5 is still only a beta which means there will most likely be changes to the program before it's full release. If it is something that Groundspeak needs to spend a lot of time on to make work than I would rather them do it once it's a full release in case things change and they have to start over again to make it work with the full release.
  6. for shotgunpr...i have seen that too many of times. even in our store we have had to modify the existing database to recognize PR as a state instead of a country.
  7. back in the day i used one of the garmin forerunner units. Worked nice back then (a couple years ago). I'm sure the newer models are even nicer!
  8. I haven't sold any activated ones on there. How has that worked out for you? I have a ton activated that I would like to move but I would hate to only get $1 or $2 for them cause their activated.
  9. I actually have a bunch on there. I sell regularly on there to move ones that I've had for a while and get some new ones but lately I have just been selling to slim my collection down since they really have just been sitting in a loc and loc container. I'd rather let someone else enjoy them then let them sit there. But no matter what I always check the feedback rating. It's very reliable when you look at a seller. But unfortunately it's not with buyers since a seller cannot leave a bad buyer negative feedback.
  10. JB Weld works well for bonding metals and other materials. Home Depot has it.
  11. Want a really easy tool for this? Get a quilling tool. The end is slotted so just put a little bit of the log in there and roll. It's quick and simple and a lot easier on your fingers. They're like $3 or $4 at most craft stores.
  12. not sure on the one built into the site. but if you use google earth with the geocaching addon you can do tons of stuff.
  13. Use google earth! When you log into your account on geocaching.com, scroll down a ways and on the right hand side is a google earth add on. Just d/l google earth also and add that on. Works wonderful!
  14. Tsun hit that right on the head!
  15. I second that. I couldn't survive without my PQ's and GSAK. Makes life much easier, it's so much more organized and faster to put everything together when you get it down.
  16. Don't worry about it! I did the exact same thing on my Colorado and called them. They ended up remoteing into my colorado through my computer to check it out then they copied the file over. Hope you have broadband connection cause if I recall correctly, it's a good size file and takes a while even with broadband. Best of luck but Garmin will fix you up for sure.
  17. The dollar store ones are kinda junky. There are jumbo ones that work out great! You can put a log and a pencil stub in there and they will hold some smaller coins and such.
  18. If you're interested in fisher pens then you might also like the Inka Write anywhere pens. Check them out for sure! Same deal, will write at any angle, will write through grease and on wet paper. I have one on my key chain so it's always with me. Definitely my favorite. Here's a pic:
  19. Welcome to the fun the both of you! It is definitely a great game! Make sure you check for local events in your area. They are a great place to meet many cachers and go on group caching hikes and such!
  20. I'm sure there are some topics floating around here for those, try doing a search or even go into the GPS and Technology section on the forums if you have questions on your unit and I am sure you will get tons of replies quickly. Everyone is very friendly and helpful on here! Welcome to the fun!
  21. I hear that Delorme is working on one for their GPS's. I have heard the same thing from Delorme. I love using the feature on my Colorado when I have it at work and see a new one pop up nearby. I get out of the door a heck of a lot quicker! It will be a great addition to the PN series!
  22. Really? I don't even have that... well, not on a PN-20... It's the T7 SP1 that makes the changes to the .gpx file when it is imported. But we always suggest that all PN-series devices be updated to the latest firmware as well. -Brian -Team DeLorme Is there an ETA on the character limit removal update on these units?
  23. I had the same problem. I updated my google earth and it now works fine again.
  24. Man, this would be great! I have been wanting to do something like this for a long time. Keep me in mind also!
  25. sure is! log into your account on geocaching.com and on the right hand side scroll down until you see "Google Mapping Features", there's a link right there to d/l it.
