  1. Not sure is this one has been covered, but I may as well ask.... Why is it that in order to perform a search based on coordinates, we have to input decimal degrees? IE: dd.dddddd?? I wouldn't mind, but the results that come back from the query are in dd.mm.mmmm format which requires a system preference "units" change on my GPS in order locate the cache. Would it not make sense to provide the same units accross the board for the WAP interface? Either unit format is fine with me. Kobayashi
  2. I've started using my blackberry for finding caches while I'm on the road. I log into the system via WAP.GEOCACHING.COM to seach for nearbye caches using the coords on my GPS. It works really well and it even lets you log caches pick up/drop off TB's while you are at it. My only beef with the system is that you need to search for caches using hhhh.mmmmmm units. Once you've made your search it gives you nearbye cache coords in hh.mm.mmm units which requires a system preference change on your GPS. This is a major pain especially when you want to perform multiple searches. Anyone else using a mobile device to search for caches? Am I missing something?
  3. The Cache is still there. It's just barron now. All of it's goodies were removed. There is still a log book. I'll fill it up with some more goodies. Not much worth Geocaching in this area anymore with a moron like that ruining it for everyone else. ------------------------ Kids who hunt fish and geocache don't mug little old ladies...

  5. I went to my cache to check on Rusty's Travel bug. I'm sorry to report that not only is the travel bug gone, but my Cache was ransaked. The "Geopirate" left this note in the log: “Geocaching Hell has found you! Came for the trophy, now he is mine, pillaged the geocache. The Geopirate Strikes again.” (He also left a lovely skull and crossbones drawing). ------------------------ Kids who hunt fish and geocache don't mug little old ladies...
  6. Great! We'll see what kind of interest this generates over the next month or so. Maybe we can get some Urban-Locked Geocachers from "Down South" to come up and experience the Northern Landscape! ------------------------ Kids who hunt fish and geocache don't mug little old ladies...
  7. I've been been a member of this site and the sport of geocaching since Dec. 2001. I only recently became a Charter Member: July 5th 2002.... Weird Thing: If you look at my Profile it says I've been a charter member sice December 2001... Does this mean my membership expires next December? Yikes!
  8. I have done that. But I still have to click twice.
  9. What. Am I the only Geocacher in Northern Ontario?
  10. I bought a Garmin eTrex Legend.. Best bang for the Buck I'd say. Love it.

  12. Jeremy.... Solution # 1: Hit that wonderful "DELETE" button to this thread please!!!! Solution # 2 Everyone get out of this thread and go find/hide a bloody geocache! I'm off to go geocaching! Peace. [This message was edited by Kobayashi on July 09, 2002 at 08:14 PM.]
  13. Every time I log on to the "Groundspeak Forums" and select a "discussion" I'd like to navigate...I get bounced back to the "Groundspeak Forums" page again. I have to click on the "discussion" one more time until I get into the discussion I want. (dadgum that extra click!)
  14. What's next? Are you guys going to exchange coordinates and meet up for some fisticuffs to settle this?? I pay for my membership for one reason only: To see this site grow and to see this great family oriented activity grow. Those of you that don't/can't pay are NOT freeloaders. Hopefully you contribute in other ways: Advocacy, helpful posts, recruitment etc... Just my 2-cents.
  15. I managed to find an old copy of MS Trip Planner 98 from a Dell that I purchased years ago - (now acting as my File Server)... Anyway - this works great! My search along a route feature is quite limited. (50 km) - but this is a great way to visualize waypoints! And fast to boot! Is there anywhere we can import for geocaches in the US??? Thanks for this!

  17. Anyone in the North Bay, Sudbury area intertested in getting a meeting/group hunt/group placement set up this fall? N.O.G.S.?
  18. Wouldn't it be a great if there was a way of "marking" a cache on the search engine with some kind of i.d. that enables geocachers to search by route? IE: I'm travelling from Ottawa to Vancouver along Highway 17... Before I leave I do a search by route "Highway 17 - Canada" and I get a whole list of geocaches that have been placed along this route. There was a similar post here a while back on creating a mathematical algorithm system for searching for caches along a route. The math is enough to make your eyes spin because it would require a complete overhaul of the current system. It currently searches for geocaches within a "square" - in approximation to a certain location. The new system would require a search along a series of very narrow rectangles that follow the route you are interested in. Yikes. Sorry, your slide rule won't help you here. My suggestion would be to "tag" geocaches with a keywording system when placed along a route. Then there could be a standard searching system to identify these waypoints. Any other thoughts?

  20. When I first saw this post I was excited, and I was going to use one of my bugs to track my milage. After reading the rest of this post, I think I'd have to agree that it would be much more simple to get admin to add a personal mapping feature. They already have it all set up for Bugs, so it shouldn't be much work to implement the same feature for Geocachers. I think using a Bug would just cause trouble. Besides, what about all the caches you've found before you activate your bug? People will get scads of emails that are completely redundant. Just my 2 cents.
  21. Well, You'll just have to believe me: 39500 feet.
  22. Hmmm. Now that my brain is bleeding (due to the above post). I've decided that looking for caches along routes is just something I'll have to leave to the "left-brained" geocachers in the world. Good luck!
  23. ok - got it. They were JPEG's not JPG's!!! Silly me. Cheers. Kobayashi
  24. Hi - I can't seem to get my uploaded images to appear in the drop-down list on the "change your profile" page. The images upload fine, they are the correct size etc. and they appear on the "available images" page. Am I missing something?
  25. I recently went on my honeymoon to Mexico... Found three awesome caches there in the Ruins of Tulum... I got boored on the plane trip down ind recorded this:
