  1. As a keen Geocacher and recently CBer, I would be interested to know if there are any fellow Geocachers out there who also partake in CB ? Particularly the Lancashire area and even more particularly the Preston area... If so, what Handles should I be listening out for ? My Geocaching name is GPSJester and so, inspiringly, my CB Handle is "The Jester" I notice there is a Radio Ham section of the forum, but not so sure if they mix with us CB types. If you are a CB-Geocacher, have you used it to your advantage in any way ? Looking forward to any responses... Regards, GPSJester AKA The Jester AKA Mick.....
  2. We were on our way to a geocache in lancashire ansd spotted Carl foggerty in his car. Not so sure he was Geocaching though...
  3. I have never been bitten by a spider, but on a recent Cache find in Lancashire, I managed to take onboard an unwanted hitchhiker, whilst clambering through some marshland >>> SEE PHOTO/LOG HERE <<<
  4. I think this is a fair comment and one that I will adopt myeslf...
  5. Great idea... Not found a cache with a camera yet ! Hmph
  6. Thats a nice idea "Scrapbooking" the cards. Wasnt sure if we were allowed to remove them or not... That may be enough for me to design my own... Hmmmmm ... Artistic cogs now churning... ! cheers
  7. Caches full of nicely laminated, credit card sized calling cards... (1) Do we like them ? (2) Is this the lazy way, instead of signing the log book ? (3) Do Geocachers who use them, also sign the log book ? Do you use them ? what are your thoughts ?
  8. Thats the one... no wonder I couldnt find it... different website Thanks very much for that...
  9. Could anybody tell me whereabouts the Geocaching leaflet is on the website. Its the a4 leaflet we can print out and send to people explaining what geocaching is all about... I`ve looked everywhere..... Much appreciated.. GPSJester
  10. ORD Svy...... How did I not see that in the list !!! Thanks Wobbly Club These Forums are worth their weight..... Thanks Again.
  11. Recently bought an Etrex (Yellow) and also purchased an OS Explorer Map (1:25 000). I have set the Etrex up so that the coordinates are displayed as British Grid format i.e SD123456. But when I view a waypoint/coordinate etc. it only seems to display 5 figures i.e SD12345. If I do a search using Streetmap.co.uk (using the 5 figure format) it comes back with an error, asking for another digit. So I thought, oh, you must have to stick a 0 on the end... but no, that gives me a totally different coordinate and of course, an incorrect location on the displayed map. Could anybody explain why it is only displaying 5 figures and can I amend it to display 6. Guidance much appreciated....
  12. At what stage can anyone setup a Virtual Cache ? We have only just started Caching and only have one cache find to our name (Due to bad weather and a 4month old baby). I have found something I think is of interest and would be good for a virtual cache site. Are we ok to setup this virtual cache or do we need to gain more experience in "Cache locations" etc.
  13. Thanks for all the feedback so far.... 60CS.... I wish.... We have a 4 month old daughter, so money is a bit scarce at the minute. I know I said if money was no object, but £300 plus Legend looks favourable though... Thanks again
  14. Looking to buy an Etrex (Yellow) or Etrex Legend... If money was no object (within reason) Which would YOU buy ? Does the Legend have features that you dont really need or would they be an adavantage to have ? Thoughts much appreciated...
  15. dadgum right, its like being a little kid again, finding treasure.... Where is the top cacher of the month league table listed then ?
  16. Just found our first cache this weekend and learned a valuable lesson in doing so. Made the mistake of relying on, what I ASSUMED was the right way to go and a bit of dodgy map reading... INSTEAD of trusting the GPS. After 10mins of walking backwards and forwards, finally decided to trust the GPS and hey presto, it took us to within 10ft of the cache. As I said, this was my first ever cache and took along my wife and 4 month old daughter. We had a great morning and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to next weekend now, to find more caches... Oh dear, it looks like I`m hooked... GPSJester
  17. Thanks you two, Easy mistake to make, considering the type of people who seem to be trying to give us a bad name etc..... Unfortunately wont be able to make the meet, but we may well attend future events... Thanks, Glad were all friends again...
  18. Now theres a thought......quick wheres my map ? Nice One, Cheers Lizeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..eeeeeeeeeeee

  20. Cheers Guys, I appreciate that... since my post I have done a bit more delving and am now upto speed. As soon as I get my GPS, you wont be able to hold me back. Looking forward to my first find... Fair comment about the journo thing... Thanks Again
  21. Blimey, I seem to have created a bit of a stink here. I must first apologies to anybody who thinks I`m not a true Geocacher and that I might be a landowner, journalist or whatever.... I have only just joined this amazing pastime and am very keen to get cracking, hence the questions. For the two Geocachers who refused to answer my email for various reasons, I asked you guys as you had the nearest Cache located to my home location. I just didnt want to upset anybody when I come to place my first cache. I apologies if I`ve got your back up, it wasnt intentional. As for my Avatar.. I knocked that up in about 30 mins, as I am a keen cartoonist and thought it would look quite good. I wear a hat similar to the one in the avatar and my username is GPSJESTER. I am a computer engineer at BAE Samlesbury and live in Preston Lancs.... AGAIN APOLOGIES IF I`VE UPSET ANYONE, IT WASNT INTENTIONAL. I JUST DONT WANT TO GET ANYTHING WRONG WHEN I FINALLY GET GOING... I HAVENT EVEN BOUGHT A GPS YET...WAITING FOR PAY DAY.... THANKS TO THE PEOPLE WHO DID GIVE ME SOME USEFULL INFO.... MICK.
  22. Now why didnt I think of that.... Call me stupid, but I hadnt realised there was a UK specific forum. Thats what happens when you dont bother to scroll down the screen. No wonder I`m a Tadpole.... Thanks for the info....
  23. I am new to Geocaching and not wanting to bring any bad press to Geocaching.COM, GAGB or Geocaching in general, I have read through the notes regarding "Getting Permission From Landowners" before siting a cache. For National Trust sites, straight forward enough... Just contact your local NT Warden. And for similar National Parks, would no doubt go down the same route... But what about the more obscure locations : river banks, canal tracks, quaysides, urban locations etc. Do we need to obtain permission for every cache we want to site ? I would hate to plant a cache, only to find I should of got permission first... Any Thoughts would be much appreciated Mick.
  24. VegasCacheHounds, Thanks for that... I`ll see how I go.

This query is mainly aimed at UK Geocachers, but will still appreciate any feedback from Outside UK. For National Trust sites, straight forward enough... Just contact your local NT Warden.
