And to meantion again the big screen size is awesome when it's mounted up on the windshield. http://www.sprecher.us/smiles_63.gif ---Real men cache in shorts. I started with this setup a Visor and Magellan companion. Although accuracy and usability worked fine. at that time the software & waypoint management was lacking, so I got a Garmin Vista a mapsource program and ExpertGPS. This turned out much better than what I was using to cache with. Even though I still take my visor with me to check cache info and log my finds while at the cache site. More rules = Less fun! GPX on Palm

quote:Originally posted by LongDogs:Yeah, watcher is exactly what I was thinking about. It would be hard to do on Palm... Still, something similar could still be done. I was thinking about a Windows based program to convert the GPX to a palm DB that could be read by a companion palm program.... I thought I remembered reading some time back that somebody was already working on a palm program for the GPX format. I already did somthing for the palm... and working on a PC side as we speak...GeoCachingDB I have also been talking to "GPSBable" folks about thier multi envorment program to export files for my app. More rules = Less fun! 6. quote:Originally posted by Genius Loci:You guys actually build spreadsheets and databases, write pages of notes, log personal TB's in and out - all to keep track of caches you ALREADY FOUND????? [/Quite] Yep! But we remember then all quote:But for me, the big fun here is in the hunting itself. We all can agree to that quote: Life's too short to spend time obsessing with the past, so I build my databases and write notes to help me find the caches I haven't visited yet, not the ones I already found. JMHO The future is soon to be the past, you must trash alot of future work? sorry had to be said. Have you ever tried to fine one, then realized you have been there before? to each thier own, happy caching! More rules = Less fun! NTGA member

  10. quote:Originally posted by barcode:Hello everyone, We're new to the Geocaching phenom and wondered what the best downloadable software, if any, is the best. Have a safe New Year! Cody First of all, Welcome to the sport!! You might check in the "GPS units and software" fourm. To answer your question, there is a lot of software that can be used for geocaching. You might narrow your question to whether it will be used in: GPS, PC, Palm, Pocket PC, etc... I wrote one for Palm & Pocket PC devices, to take some info & log my finds in the field. 11. quote:Originally posted by Jamie Z:setup --> clear memory --> clear waypoint/routes. If you don't want to delete them _all_, I think the easiest method would be to load them all into EasyGPS, use your computer to manipulate the the waypoints you want (delete the ones you don't need) and then reload the waypoints into your GPS after you've cleared the memory. Jamie I have several garmins, but I clear my unwanted waypoints the same way often. BTW in EasyGPS hilite the unwanted waypoints (backspace) will temporaroly (sp) disable the waypoints so they dont get sent with the good ones. More rules = Less fun! NTGA member
  12. quote:Originally posted by txccider:Is the fact that the memory can't be changed or removed a problem? Also I see some add on antennas on ebay that promise a 28db gain is this something I would want for the car or will the unit perform well without, and would you use that type of antenna hiking? with a 9' wire even though the antenna looks not too much larger than a quarter. Again thanks for your help---we can't wait to get one of these. I have a Vista and a Emap both are great! but suffer from less than the best antenna system, though they work perfectly in the car and on the trail. I got one of those antennas from ebay (gpsgeek's).. WOW!! full signals from all sats above the horizon More rules = Less fun! NTGA member

I can see the map file info menu for the Handspring, but I cannot find the map in the menu system. How do I use the maps now? Any Help would be appreciated. John I have all the above software/hardware and Im not shure I follow you... "GPS Cartographer "= pc program to geo reference scanned maps for use with "GPSPilot" (Palm program) "GPS Companion " = GPS module for handspring & mapping program for Palm which can NOT use the maps created for use in GPS Pilot. if you are looking for the map using GPS compainion software, it wont show up there!
