  1. I heard about Geocaching a while ago when it was new and did not think too much of it then i read an aticle last summer in the paper http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/Art...uery=geocaching That got me interested, i always was obsessed with maps and geography so I felt that this would be fun. Of course took me 6 months to get off my butt to buy a GPS but that was it for me.
  2. If you really want to know what level of geek somone is (or you are) go here http://www.geekcode.com/geek.html
  3. I use this web site http://www.multimap.com/ it is great it shows you the lat and long (in decimal format) of anyspot you click It works like the others basically
  4. I sometimes hide my keys in my hand then if someone notices me I bend down and pull up my keys and look "happy" Works sometimes, I do like the Ipod or MP3 player idea, GPSr tend to be too big for cell phones nowadays. One day I am tempted to say, the probe should have landed around here somewhere! Just to see what kind of reaction I get
  5. I was doing a cache in Orangeville Ontario one day in a local park When I returned to the car i saw a cab driver watching me and asked if I lost something (The cache was in a park where everyone can see you) I told him I was geocaching and explained it and then thought nothing else of it. the next day i got a call from the Orangeville Police, apparently someone wrote down my license plate and called the cops. The cop was good natured about it at least.
  6. Yeah i didnt see it but thanks

    User Stats

Hi there, i have seen a few websites that list stats for particular areas ie Top 500 in Ontario I was wondering if there would be a way to receive or to have a web service where i an setup a criteria. For instance once a week/day etc receive a file that lists the top n cachers that show their current finds so far and the area they are from. State and country would suffice. I would like to do my own stats page that does not require maintannce all the time and is up to date.
  8. I dont have too many hides yet but what i noticed when I was caching in the winter and early spring is that you do come across caches that did not make it thorugh the winter. I plan on checking on mine once the snow and ice has been down for a while. Of course if you live in a warmer climate then it does not matter so much. A lot of caches in tupperware containers dont seem to survive the winter
  9. I have done a few long distance driving trips where I include caching along the way The thing I found is the best is to only do caches that are either right on the highway or just a couple of miles off of it or you will never get to where you are going. The largest one i did was a drive from Hamilton, ON to La Crosse WI, and have done a couple of drives to Cleveland OH and Erie PA. I found moving across the map the best albeit time consuming. I was able to find enough caches and to not slow my overall drive right down (1200km to Lacrosse)
  10. True the GTA is not exactly wilderness. But granted oakville does have some nice parks.
  11. My favourite cache type depends on where I am When I am in an urban environment I like the micros and virtuals. I did a bit of caching in cleveland a couple of weeks ago and had a great time downtown. I enjoy the stealth required to find micros in cities and i love the fact they are there with hundreds of people around. Now in the wilderness I dont really care for micros. If there is one nearby I'll grab it. In the wilderness I love multi stages, I have not done too many so far but I did like the tour d'Oakville caches and started to work on one in burlington.
