  1. I think it is Addis Adaba or something strange like that
  2. That is a great milestone, the 1000th cache. I hope to reach that someday (I am just over half way). Juicepig is the 107th Canadian Cacher to reach 1000! Way to go. Canada Stats
  3. That sounds like it would be an amazing event and it is actually feasible to drive there from Southern Ontario too! 12-14 hours though. I may actually consider going, I was kind of hoping it would be in the Northern US this year but it is closer than florida at least
  4. It is strange, I checked out the cache Cache Link and yes over 80 TB's have been logged. Now some people would log a TB into a virtual to record milage on a trip or have thier own tracking bug. Perhaps the person logged into the virtual forgot to take it out and placed it in a cache that has not been found or someone else took it and did not log it Something similar happened to me except it was not a virtual My TB was logged into a cache up by Huntsville then it was reported that all the TBs were missing from that cache a couple of weeks later. Emailed the last known finders and some did not ever reply. My TB surfaced exactly one year later a couple of hundred kms away! Check out Little Fishman. But i do agree it is not right to leave a TB in a virtual cache.
  5. Tony was one of the very first geocachers I met, at Cupids Valentines Event in Feb 2005. I was only caching for a month at the time. Even though I only met him 3 times at events he seemed so familiar as if I knew him longer. I guess he had that affect on people. Hearing of his passing really bothered me. He had such a personality which made you enjoy his company. I still remember him calling me "Captain Fishsticks" with great fondness. I will miss him.
  6. I am always looking for something to celebrate I submitted this picture I took for a cache last year Click here
  7. The one thing I noticed that the harder the cache or more correctly the more effort is required does seem to affect the number of visitors. I know I am stating the obvious. I have been up that way in BC before (amazing along the sea to sky highway is it not) and I just wish I knew about Geocaching when I was out there. I felt the same way when I placed my first cache and did not get all that many visitors I thought I made it too hard or too much effort placed in one cache. But judging from the location people will come. (Heck I would if i could get the time off to fly out there!) I have a couple of caches that has had very little activity due to the fact you have to do quite a bit of work. My older cache has had 17 visits since it was placed in mid 2005 and was only found once since sept of 05. And my latest one was found Twice since it was placed over a month ago and this is in a part of ontario that has a large number of cachers. Both require a few km of cycling. Conversley I have a micro that has been found about 40 times and was placed late june 06. It was a real easy one in the middle of a cache dense area much like your part of BC is a cache dense area. I personally love the remote ones , gives me a real sense of accomplishment!
  8. One of my goals was to average 1 cache a day since I started in Jan 2005 for a while I was keeping up on it, As of today I am 37 caches behind. It is not that easy to do as you get further along becuase not only do you have to make up the caches but each day adds one more. I have been holding steady at 30 or so behind for a few months now. Also one of may main goals is to clear out Hamilton, I have not done too bad but there is still a lot to do. It seems when I get closer a whole bunch a new ones comes up which keeps the challenge alive. I probably will never clear out hamilton especially when you define Hamilton as the entire region including the rural areas.
  9. Yeah the C and Cx comes with the Americas Recreational vs the BW Legend which comes with America Highways. THe Recreational only has Interstate and Main Highways. I never noticed a difference because I live in Canada and the coverage is the same for both in Canada which is practically nothing. I noticed the real improvement to the C from the B and W version is the speed of redrawing, auto routing, and the thing is way better at acquiring a signal which trust me is worth it. I just got it so I have not had a chance to play with it much but I was able to get reception in my house away from the windows (ok with 20M accuracy) but the old legend this would have been impossible.
  10. I just today in fact purchased the new Etrex Legend Cx which is basically the C with an Micro SD card Now I used a Legend for over a year (it broke at the autoshow this week!!) and i found it to be ok however it was slow, only had 8 MB. For my area that is enough to load up Hamilton and about 60 k around it excluding toronto which seems fine but whever I go on any trip I had to go and upload the maps all over again. The monochrome screen does get tiring after a while. Anyways this is the advanatage I have seen so far about the Cx (C as well) AutoRouting: this really does come in handy to be honest, when I do lunch time caches I have to get out mapquest and look at where the cache is or when I am going on trips I have to do the route in Mapsource then upload it. Averaging: I always wanted this feature, basically when hiding your cache you can let it sit there and average out a series of readings Colour: Really makes a difference I did not think It would matter but it makes the maps that much more readable. The C has 24 MB of storage which mean you can have a lot more map coverage Also the Cx not sure about the C but it is way faster, boots up in seconds and I can pan maps to my hearts content now. I hated how sluggish the Legend was. Now I was going to buy the C but the Cx has the micro sd card therefore expandable. Just so you know I bought my GPS at Radio World in North Toronto they are having a sale, Cx for 329 and the C for 269,
  11. At least it was not a cache by this guy http://www.geocaching.com/profile/Default....ed-4002cdb92825 I am trying to get him to "visit" my cache
  12. Yeah Really useful! I have spent countless time trying to get caches on a route. I am going to NS and NB in about three weeks and I spent quite a bit of time getting caches on my route. So you did this all in PHP then not bad.
  13. I use a Toshiba e740. Bought it off a friend who does not use it. It's ok but wish it had Windows Mobile 2003 but what can you do. I use GPXSonar after trying out a few other programs. To export to GSAK from Sonar there is a feature to export GSAK notes (forget exactly which menu choice it is) it creates a small xml file that can be imported into gsak, unfortunately it just does user notes but you can easily see then which ones you did. My caching partner used to have an old Palm but he dropped it one day. I think if all you are going to do with a PDA is cache you be best in just getting an old one for like 40 bucks on Ebay you dont need all that power.
  14. Hi all I am going to be in Melbourne at the end of November early dec for a week on business. I am visiting from Canada so have no idea what the area is like. I was wondering if there any really cool caches in melbourne that are recommened.
  15. Yeah somehow he will have to pay GST on his Robes. Interesting enough we actually had a political party that ran in the 93 and 97 elections that based everything on Transedental Meditation. And they got 85,000 votes.
  16. Ok after checking out HarryKrisha I invited him to visit my cache, his first visit to Canada!
  17. Language is not really a barrier to geocaching. Germany is the second highest concentration of caches. They even have thier own version of the GC.com http://www.geocaching.de/ But enough about that. Cache density seems to be affected by several factors. Population density, the more people there are the more likely there are cachers. Also the more caches the more likely others will take up the sport. And also by the cachers themselves in the area how prolific they are in placements etc. But I also think there is too much of a good thing, just go caching in Erie PA or other caching hotspots and you will soon get tired of going "Oh look another lamppost micro! Just like the one across the street."
  18. Hi there my name is Robin Fish and I live in Hamilton Ontario Anyways there is a locationless cache called Sisters Anyways I noticed that Flint Michigan is a sister city of Hamilton Ontario were I live You can check out Flint Sister Cities So to log this cache before it goes to Waymarking.com I just have to take a picture of me at a "Welcome To Hamilton" sign and exchange the pictures with someone who took a picture at a "Welcome to Flint" sign Can anyone help me?
  19. Here is an interesting one in Southern Ontario, near Niagara Falls Haunted Screaming Tunnel Cache
  20. It would be interesting to see what would happen if you where to look at the cache density in Ontario if you where to split ON into North and South, I am sure if you did that Southern Ontario would score rather nicely. Now you would have to assume that the 46th parallel is the dividing line. I havent figured out the stats but since Northern ontario takes up a huge chunk of the province and there are relatively few caches up there compared to down here.. Of course you can do the same with any provice, take out to unpopulated northern parts out and the stats all change
  22. Bonjour, J'mapelle Robin Fish et je recherche l'aide dans l'exécution "Where's in a name?' its waypoint is GC3153 aussi. Mon nom d'utilisateur est LORDFISHMAN et ma ligne de latitude que j'ai calculée est 43°56.737. Cette ligne intersecte les sud de la France. Sud approximativement de 150km de Bordeaux. Y a-t-il des cachers voulant aider un Canadien ? Merci! LordFishman Hamilton, ON Canada
  23. Yeah I read about the TH situation today A canadian tire would be cool How about sending that happy Canadian tire family up there for a while.
  24. Hey if we place a cache there perhaps we can ask the government to maintain it. I'm sure it will only cost a few million dollars but hey we get to have soverignty over that oh so important Rock in the middle of nowhere. I mean what are we going to do there, build a tim hortons?
  25. And any pocket queries as well I forgot to do that when I moved, well I only moved a few km but that is something too to update
