  1. My guess is you're out of luck. I recently broke the screen of my near-new Garmin 60csx. The repair shop replaced the whole unit - at considerable cost to me - rather than repair the screen.
  2. Unfortunately, not possible. All GPS's we're aware of accept only proprietary maps. You can use Pocket Streets on a PDA, linked to a GPS, but that's not the same.
  3. We would like to submit for a category – Medicine Wheels. They could be a subcategory under Things, Historic Things. We have been to a few of these wonderful sites and would like to share them with others. One of the older wheels has been dated to over 4,500 years old and they are very moving sites to visit. We would be pleased to manage this category. Thanks Goodguys.
  4. We use GPS 18 on the laptop and the GPS 10 with the PDA. Both work fine using waypoints from Pocket Queries, exported via GSAK to MapSource.
  5. Added our name from British Columbia, Canada.
  6. The AAA Auto Club put out a series of caches along 'Route 66' last summer. They have Garmin shirts in some of them. This shirt was from one of their caches during one of our caching road trips south this summer.
  7. Just wanted to chime in that we would really enjoy this category. We went to a medicine wheel in Wyoming in Sept that was placed sometime in 1200 - 1700 AD. These are all places we would like to share with others and places we would really enjoy seeing. C
  8. We use an adaptor by IOGear. We're on our second - the first worked for awhile, then failed, but was promptly replaced under warranty. Initial cost was in the $50 range.
  9. Thanks for the replies, we left for Phoenix on the 9th and didn't get internet connections till last night. CoCaCher; we will try and get a chance to get to that cache one evening this week before we head for home. Also thanks loads to Team 360 for suggesting the ones up by Canyon Lake. We went up there this morning and managed to grab 6 caches, walk through the old Ghost Town/Mine, see our first scorpion(way to up close and personal) while at the Needle, then topped it off with lunch in Tortilla Flat. A very good morning! Goodguys
  10. We use S&T extensively (currently using S&T 2005) and have not found any way to export route or track information.
  11. From what I recall reading Royal Roads was offering a Geocaching event for $75 per person to learn about geocaching and that they woud be placing some caches about the grounds for that occasion. Something they thought would bring more tourists out to the grounds. But they weren't caches that would be for the general public. We were out on the grounds last Monday looking around and said the place really needed a virtual cache or two there. C
  12. We will be visiting the Phoenix area and will have a day and a few evenings for caching. We were wondering if there are any 'must-see' or interesting historical caches that anyone would recommend. Thanks, Goodguys
  13. We have an iPAQ pocketPC and Garmin's GPS 10. It does a very good job of auto-routing with voice prompts, with corrections when you go off-route. We did need to install a power cable for the iPAQ to keep it from shutting off in power conservation mode. THere is another bluetooth GPS out there, not sure, but it might be DeLorme, that also does data-logging. That would be a nice feature for those times when you don't want to pull out the iPAQ, but want to capture a track.
  14. GPX Sonar works with PocketPC - we use it with our HP4700.
  15. We did find 'Bang Bang' on the 9th and found a nice fresh log book to write in. We were taking a driving tour down from British Columbia, Canada and managed to do 4 of the AAA caches along Route 66. On June 8th we did 'We're at it again', 'Rock of ages', and 'Parting the water'. Two virtuals and at Rock of ages we again found an empty log book. We really enjoyed these; and they do have some nice swag, though less one Garmin t-shirt. It would be nice to be able to log them and see logs from others. Not home yet, in Reno tonight and so far we have about 100 caches to log once we get home. Some beautiful countryside down here and, we have seen some interesting and creative caches as well as some great areas. Cathy ( the untech half of Goodguys)
  16. We have the Garmin 10; it is just a receiver, and is useless without a PDA or computer to send its signal to. We use it with an iPAQ - its a great combination, and we really like Garmin's Que software for PocketPC. We've no experience with Delorme products, but looking at the Bluelogger on their website, it appears to be nearly identical to the GPS 10, with the added functionality, as you've pointed out, of storing tracks in memory. This seems to be a clear advantage over the GPS 10. The 10 has a built-in lithium battery; it appears the Delorme's is removable - can it be charged in the unit?
  17. I was looking for Garmin software for my PPC (iPAQ 4700). We've used MS Pocket Streets and Oziexplorer with cable-connected GPS (Rino and Geko), but really wanted to get Garmin's maps for uninterrupted zoom-able maps. The only way to get Garmin software that we found was to purchase their bluetooth GPS 10. So we did, and it is wonderful. It seems to have all the searching capability and detail of the desktop application, and we can get about half of North America on a 512 Meg CF card.
  18. We've never put our Rino's into simulator mode to do software upgrades. I know the instructions say to, but we've upgraded several times, both Rinos 110 and 120, and never had a problem.
  19. We bought a Garmin GPS 10, partly to be able to get Mapsource running on our HP4700. The bluetooth GPS 10 works like a charm, complete with autorouting. And we get about 1/2 of North America on a 512 Meg CF card. The Garmin software works fine without any GPS connected (for viewing the map, etc), but GPS functionality seems limited to working with the GPS 10. I have a cable to connect a Geko, which works great with Streets & Trips, but for Mapsource, it seems to connect only with with the bundled GPS 10.
  20. I've been able to get a track from GPS to Streets & Trips by first downloading the GPS into ExpertGPS. EasyGPS would probably work as well. With ExpertGPS you can move the track log into the waypoint window, creating a series of waypoints that can be exported to a csv file. Finally, import that csv file into S & T using S & T's data import feature. Its not the most elegant solution, but it does the trick!
  21. I've had trouble establishing a connection before. Its been a while, but I think the solution was to choose a slower baud rate. Seems to me the default is 15,200 or something like that, and by changing it to 9600 I was able to connect. The failure to connect was an intermittent problem for me, and I know since then I've connected at higher speed. I'm convinced the whole thing involves a bit of black art .
  22. If it were my cache I think i might email the cacher, explain the situation and inquire if they would change the entry from a find to a note. That way they would still have thier contribution on record.
  23. Try Gomadic.com. They have an amazing modular system that connects a wide variety of devices. I just bought a cable to connect my Geko and HP4700 PDA. Very slick!
