  1. Just copy different maps onto the unit and then rename the gmapsupp.img to something more useful name. The maps' filename on modern units do not have to be gmapsupp.img any longer. Hans Maybe I'm missing something but when I have a gmapsupp img file on my Oregon 600 no other map img files show up, and the gmapsupp file shows as a single map set, meaning the whole thing can be turned on and off but not separate maps within the gmapsupp file. Try loading one map set then go and change the name from gmapsupp to something else i.e. Home.img. Then load another one. I travel a lot and use the 24K maps which fill up the sd card pretty quick so I used map install to install individual states and afterwards remaned the file to Oregon, CA, etc. Then I moved them to my computer and drag/drop them back onto the device as needed. This allows them to be turned on individually. If you missed it above , I did end up renaming the gmapsupp file created in Mapsource to US Topo-West, and it shows up normally on the Oregon 600 alongside the other map sets. Thanks for the help everyone! Bill
  2. Where I live (North GA) is covered by the National Parks 24k maps, but I do use the US topos even here. I'm actually planning a trip to CO and am trying to get everything together for that.

  4. Can you please give an example with lat/lon and a screenshot? Hans First is Garmin US Topo West 100k Second is CO Topo 2011 (Free)
  5. Basecamp on the Oregon loads all of the maps as separate image files, so you then select or deselect the map set. A Mapsource image file puts all of the maps on one big file, so the Oregon sees it as one map set. If the Mapsource image file is loaded on the Oregon with the other maps loaded through Basecamp, then the Mapsource file is the only one that shows up in the selection screen on the Oregon. .....Okay, I just took a break from this post and tried renaming the gmapsupp file to US Topo - West.img and that seems to have gotten me over the hurdle and the file seems to work fine, and all of the map sets appear normally in the selection screen on the Oregon.
  6. I don't think these maps are locked. I've used them before on numerous GPS units with no issues. These are the older 100k topos that had East, West, Alaska, and Hawaii DVDs. The reason I like to keep them loaded is that they have trails marked whereas the free topos don't. The map manager in Basecamp marks the maps "Not Lockable", the same as the free topos and the National Parks 24k topos, which I'm pretty sure were locked at one point. I can add the 100k topos to GPSMap image file in Mapsource and upload them to a memory card or device, and they will appear on the the Oregon, but if any other maps are on the SD card there's no way to choose which you want to display, unlike when using Basecamp to upload maps. When I choose the 100k topos with other maps in Basecamp and attempt an upload, the program finishes by telling me all maps were successfully uploaded, but the 100k topos aren't on the card. If I attempt to upload only 100k topos using Basecamp, then I get an "Upload Unsuccessful" instantly, with no sign that it even started the process of compiling and uploading the maps.
  7. Sorry about the double post. The title to this post isn't correct so this thread can be locked or deleted.
  8. I have a Garmin 600 on which I load maps from several different maps sets. One of those map sets is the older Garmin 100k Topo maps, East and West. I'm not loading all of the maps but a small selection of each, along with maps from the National Parks 24k series of maps as well as free topos. All load with no issue except the 100k topos won't load even though the Map Selector claims all maps were transferred successfully. I've tried just loading the 100k topos alone on the Oregon but still no luck. I've loaded up these maps on this GPS before, really the only thing that's changed is an update to my device software. I've looked through the change logs for software updates and see no mention of the 100k maps, so I'm at a loss. I'm able to use the 100k maps in Mapsource to upload maps to an older GPS, but in Basecamp they just won't load, even on freshly formatted SD card. Any help or suggestions appreciated! Bill

  10. I only discovered there was a limit by trying to install the maps and going into the map selection screen, and noticing that only some of the maps were selectable. As I removed maps, the missing ones started to appear in the list so I could enable/disable them. Very weird behavior. I'd be surprised if they did. Really the only way to confirm that is to load an SD card with just those img files from the 100k topo and see if they load. Even then, it could be a bug with Map Installer. I did load an SD with a Mapsource .img file and copied that over to my 600 and it opens with no issues. I'm only loading sections, not whole maps, so I've not seen any of my map selections greyed out. I only total 466mb with the maps I've loaded. I guess it's an issue with the map loader and the older 100k maps.
  11. How many different maps are you installing? Any that spill over into two .img files? It seems that there is a limit of 8-9 different map files that the 600 will load. And it doesn't "merge" maps that are split across two imgs like the 450 does on the current firmware. I have a total of 8 .img files. I didn't see anything about a map limit in the manual or in a google search. So, I experimented by removing one map and trying to add some 100k topo sections. Still no go. I now have 7 .img files on my device. The 100k US topos simply aren't being loaded even though Basecamp says they are compatible, and they show up in the list of maps that is being installed. The only reason for this issue that I can think of is that Garmin has somehow locked out installing these maps on the 600. I'm wondering if I can create a GPS img file in Mapsource and then copy that to the 600. EDIT: I created an .img file in Mapsource, loaded on an SD card, then copied that file to my 600. The maps work fine, so I'm not sure what the issue is with Basecamp.
  12. I'm having an issue adding maps to my 600. I'm adding sections of several maps-National Parks 24k; state topos from GPS File Depot; and the older 100k Garmin topos. Using Basecamp, it pulls up a list of maps that I can add to my 600, and the 100k topos are on that list. I go through the selection process to add the maps, and it give a list of maps to be added, which includes all of the maps I've selected including the 100k topos. Basecamp then goes through the motions of adding the maps to my 600. After, when I open my 600, all of the maps show up except the 100k topo maps. I have plenty of space on my card, and according to Basecamp, these maps are compatible with my device. Any ideas??
  13. Going on the fact that the trails were showing on one side of the lake but not the other, I went back and checked the coverage for the My Trails sections that I had downloaded to my unit. While the sections i had selected showed coverage in the area I wanted, I went ahead and selected some of the neighboring overlapping sections. I created a new map set and loaded it onto my GPS and now it's working as it should, with all the trails I wanted showing up. Yay! Thanks for the help.
  14. I went into my device and chose "Show All" on the map selection page and the trails showed up. I disabled City Nav and it continued to work with the topo map. Strangely, however, the trails on the north side of Lake Fontana, in GSMNP, show up, but the trails on the south side of the lake, where Tsali is, don't show up. So, I guess it is some sort of bug. I'll keep messing with it and see if I can get it to work.
  15. I am looking where the trails should show up (the MTB trails at Tsali), and I do have the maps in the same mapset, but if I turn off all of the maps on my 60Cx except the NC Topo and My Trails, only the Topo shows up-no trails from My Trails are visible. In Mapsource, I can select My Trails and see them on my PC (not overlayed, just by themselves), but even if I turn off all my maps but My Trails on my unit, I can't get them to show up. I'm obviously not doing something right.
  16. I downloaded My Trails to use with the NC Topo map. I've not used a transparent map before and can't seem to get My Trails to work as described, as an overlay to the NC Topo. In Mapsource, I can select My Trails and view it by itself. When I add My Trails to a mapset and upload it to my 60Cx, I can't see anything, even if My Trails is the only map selected. I also tried it with just City Nav, but no luck. I'm obviously doing something wrong, but I'm really at a loss. Any help with getting this overlay to work would be appreciated.
  17. Ok, thanks for that help. I'm still not clear on what I'm doing wrong. When I select All Data at the bottom of My Collections, I get the drop-down showing my waypoints, routes, etc. If I then select a waypoint and right click on it, I can choose delete from the right-click menu, but that does nothing to the waypoint. I have to choose Edit>Delete from the top menus. Why have delete option in the right-click menu if it doesn't do anything? Very confusing! Basecamp just doesn't seem very intuitive or user friendly. Why should you have to select File>New>Route when just making the Route icon active all of the time would quicker and more user friendly. I want to like BaseCamp, which does some things that Mapsource won't, but it's not nearly as easy to use as Mapsource, IMHO.
  18. OK, I've searched here and googled and no luck. I can't figure out how to delete a waypoint in BaseCamp. From what I understand, any waypoints should appear under "My Collections", where they can be deleted.I have two waypoints I placed in Basecamp (not downloaded from a device) that don't show up in My Collections. The seemingly logical step of right-clicking on the waypoint and having a delete option must not seem so logical to Garmin , since there is no right click menu. Any help on how to get rid of these waypoints would be appreciated. I'm trying to move from Mapsource to BaseCamp, but I'm not too impressed, so far.
  19. Thanks for the info-all went as expected. It's version 2011.1. I have the National Parks map sets which are 24k, which cover the national forests in N. GA and NC. These are routable and not tied to a device. I use 100k topos and custom maps to cover areas I need otherwise. Thanks again! Bill
  20. I purchased City Nav to replace an ancient copy of City Select. Before I break the seal, I have a couple of questions. Will this version (DVD) install on my PC so I can use Mapsource to create routes, etc.?? And will I be forced to install the maps to my GPS (a 60Cx) as part of the unlock process, or will it just install to the PC and let me select the map sections I want installed on my GPS? Thanks! Bill
  21. I had the same problem. I solved my problem by making sure that Mapsource was updated to the latest version before I even tried to run Mapsource after the install. So, install Mapsource, download and run the latest patch, and then try to start Mapsource. This may not be your problem, though, since you're doing a fresh install. I was attempting to do a re-install to cure problem I was having with the Unlock Wizard when I got the "Registry Problem" error. Good luck!! Bill
  22. Ok, I finally got everything re-installed and working. What I did was install a Mapsource component (City Select, Topo) and then run the mapsource patch. I ran the patch after each component install, and then started Mapsource to confirm it would open. This seems to have worked. One problem I do have is the original issue that started this whole ordeal: I'm getting a "Unlock Wizard: Incorrect or missing language dll file. Please re-install UnlockWizard_Lang.dll" . I tried again to just copy the .dll from the City Select CD to the C:\Garmin folder, but that didn't cure the problem. I did go through the unlock procedure during the City Select install, so I'm hoping that this won't cause problems down the line. Right now I have the maps I need on my 60Cx, so I'm reluctant to load another map set, for fear of the maps showing up as not unlocked on my unit. EDIT: I've now figured out what the problem is. Somewhere along the way, I guess the Mapsource update is also updating the Unlock Wizard, but not the "UnlockWizard_lang.dll" file. The Unlock Wizard is version 3.0.2.0 while the language dll file is version 2.6.5.0. If I go to the City Select CD and copy the 2.6.5.0 version of the Unlock Wizard to my C:\Garmin folder, the the Unlock Wizard runs fine. So what I need is version 3.0.2.0 of the "UnlockWizard_Lang.dll". If anyone has this and is willing to email it to me I would appreciate it. Email: bulldog1 AT mindspring.com Thanks!
  23. OK, I've got City Select up and running. I was forgetting to run the basemap patch after installing it, which I did this time and so far, so good. I now need to install my Topo programs. I've looked all over the Garmin site for the Topo patch mentioned by Doc Ditto above and can't find it. Can anyone confirm that there is a Topo patch and steer me towards it if so?? Thanks!
  24. I did try just installing City Select and still had the registry error. I'm really stumped by this one.
  25. Thanks for the reply. I don't think that's my problem, because I'm getting the registry error after installing just Trip and Waypoint Manager and applying the latest MapSource patch. I've also tried installing just City Select and still get the registry error. I'll take a break tonight and try another re-install in the morning and make sure I patch Topo when I do.
