After you download them, can you see the GPX files in your Garmin/GPX folder? Are you downloading them individually or in PQ files? I download then individually. Then i press find in geocaches and its there. But not now. It works if caches are within 30 miles but doesn't work on longer distances. doesn't make any sense. I'm going to calif tommorw and caches won't load on GPS. I'm confused. I don't know what you mean about Garmin/GPX folder. where is that? Thank you Teach2Learn it worked alphabetical I can see them all. So I guess when I get to calif and I'm within the 30 mile radius they'll show up together as nearest to my current location. You saved my day. Thanks Your California caches are probably there...you just need to display them. I know if it's a 60csx (and possibly on other Garmin GPS receivers) you need to change the preference to alphabetical for displaying geocaches or waypoints or it will simply search for nearest within a defined radius like the 30 miles you mentioned and display only those. Press the "Find" geocaches button/icon and when the list comes up, hit "Menu" and then change your preference to "Find by Name" for alphabetical listing and you should be able to scroll to any cache you sent to your GPSr. On the map screen, you can also move your cursor to the area of the cache and it should show up, then hover over it for a few seconds and hit "enter" when the GC cache ID appears. Is there a way of increasing that radius from my home coridinates so I can see all my downloads on my screen regardless of how far away? I hook up USB to my Garmin and try to download my caches to find. Now all of a sudden I try to download from website and it says its successful but it's not on GPS. What's going on? Help I just tried again. It worked. cache is 2miles away. When I try to download caches in calif 260 miles away doesn't work. Can't I download anything in the world?

Start with registering an account with one of the online services. Let's pick imageshack.us since you can use it without registering an account. Go to http://imageshack.us/ Upload an image. When you're done uploading, you'll see the image thumbnail. Below that is a whole bunch of stuff. The second item says "Direct Link". Copy the URL in the box labeled "Direct Link". Yes I am talking about traditionals. Nothing to do with terrain. I'm not talking needle in a haystack. There isn't much thought there. Puttinng one rock in a million isn't clever. It has to be something like David Blaine the magician would come up with. Something bizzare. Yeah puzzles are tough but I'm talking about fooling the eye I guess. I have heard some good ones. I made a cache that I thought was really tough. I gave it a 3 1/2 difficulty at first. I didn't think anybody would find it. The first people that looked found it. Has anybody actually found a level 5? If so what was it? My goal would be to make such a dream cache that it was so tough to find but right in front of you. Like in your face but you can't figure it out. I know I hate it when I can't find cache. But I also hate the real easy ones like lampskirt stuff.

How about we do away with the lampskirt hides also. If I suspect thats where its hidden I don't waste my time going there. I'm not into numbers. I like the qaulity of the cache

I'm not crazy about putting my hand anywhere I can't see first. Black widows, rattlesnakes, scorpions. rusty nail it goes on and on. Not a good idea especially with kids.

Well yes its possible. When I first started I was just a basic membership. I would look on map using google earth satilite view and draw a diagram in my notebook. Then I would go out and try and find. I did find several this way. As for hiding your own cache. You would of course have to have cordinates. so you either buy a GPS or borrow one. But reallly once you can afford get a GPS its the best way to go.

Thats why all my caches are Premium members only. I put some time in creating them. I hope people enjoy them. And wow what a deal $30 year to support a great hobby. Can't beat it.

Well Ok. I guess if numbers turn you on go for it. For me I like to take my time. Go for a stroll in the desert. Enjoy the view and everything along the way. I'm retired and don't like doing anything in a rush. When I look in an area to cache if I can tell its a lampskirt quick find I won't even bother. Its such a waste of time. When I found my first lampskirt I was excited. Now its kids stuff. But as with anything people do they should do it the way that they get the most out of it. I had a guy just find my cache. He has 25000 finds so I'm glad I'm not a number guy. How would I ever catch him.

Your right. I spend alot of time daydreaming about making the dream cache. Raiders of the Lost Arc stuff. I'm mean real inventive stuff.

Ok this is perfect for me to answer. Your right you can't bury anything how would anybody ever find it. I made a nice concrete box to enclose my ammo box. then I buried the enclosure just under ground level. I bolted a trailer hitch ball to the top of lid. Then I glued something on it. don't want to give away what it is. It is a pretty neat and clever cache her in Vegas. People seem to like it. But yes you can see something on the ground. when you pull on it ammo box comes out of ground. Oh I didn't mention I also put a piece of carpet on lid and put glue all over it. then put dirt and rocks on it for cammoflage. It works perfect.

Yes I know what you mean. Lately if I make a new cache I try to make it people proof if I can. I always tell them on cache page to please leave as you found. Most do. Some try to improve my hide. I have one cache that all that is visible is something only 1/2 in diameter. When you find it you have found cache. sometime people find it then cover up what I had visible with a small rock. Now the difficulty just went way up if they find it at all. So yes people pay attention and leave as you found so the next person can enjoy it also.

Now that you mention it. I found 2 caches in a row with a 45cal live round in a pill container. Same owner of caches. I also thought why?

Here is my story. On my first cache I submitted everything perfectly as you did. I also had read it could take up to 72 hrs to be published. So I thought I had time. My cache was hid but not totally finished. It still needed the log book and another little detail to be complete. So I hit submit button. Within minutes I get email saying my cache is published. Meaning someone hoping to be FTF could actually be at my cache in minutes. I scurry and get my log book and stuff to cache which fortunatly is close. So make sure cache is 100% done when you apply. As for the other. You are just like me. I did put alot of effort in my cache. It is pretty clever and I have had many positive responses. You can view logs if you like. GC290ZM. Penn & Teller. I have the Garmin 60CSx. I downloaded a Topo US map on my computer. In the mean time I had purchased online from Garmin detailed US Street maps and downloaded it straight to my GPS. That was only option. Now when I tried to download Topo into my GPS it did work but it deleted my recently purchased detailed US Street Maps. Seems you can only download them together at the same time. So everything has to be on your computer to begin with. Topo can be helpful if you really get off road in the back country. Then its nice to be able to see roads that aren't on your US Basemap.

I always carry my XD45. Fourtunatly I live in a CCW State. I can't imagine going to all these remote places without it. Never know who or what or going to run into.
