  1. Thanks everyone for all the help. I'll start checking them out. Al
  2. Hello Cachers, I want to add a picture to a cache page. In the FAQ I found how to do this, but have a problem. The photo in way to big. Would someone know what I need to do to resize it? Thanks for your help. Cache On, Al
  3. I don't know, maybe cachemate already does this. If it does can someone explain to me how? If not it might be something to think about for future updates. It would be nice if after a day of caching a person could just pull down a screen that lists all the caches visited that day. Some days my memory is not all it should be. Thanks for your help. Al
  4. Well, I'm not even sure how I did it. Was trying to follow instructions from "CurmudgeonlyGal". As long as it works I guess thats all that matters. Thanks for taking the time to help out. Al
  5. Thanks for the response. What I'm trying to do is put a map of states I have cached in on my profile page. I have the map saved on my harddrive and have this from another thread "Save the image to your hard drive - then upload it to a spot on the internet (your profile would work). Then the HTML code is simply <img src="url"> where url is the website of the image." I don't know how to put the image in my profile, I don't have a website. Any ideas? Thanks for your help, Al
  6. Hello Cachers, Is there away to upload photos straight into my photo gallery. Or does the photo have to be loaded into a caches page in order to show up in the gallery? Thanks for all your help, Cache on, Al
  7. Your GPSr can't hold all the information that is in the GSAK database so if you do the round trip you will certainly loose information. However, I don't see why you need to do the round trip. Just keep all your waypoints in GSAK. Now when you want a group of them stored in your GPSr clear all waypoints first, then send the required filter or database from GSAK to your GPSr I do exactly what Clyde suggests and it works like a charm. Also, to emphasize a point Clyde made in passing, if you're not already using them, learn how to use "filters" in GSAK (see the GSAK help). It's a fairly easy and very powerful way of tailoring what you load on your GPSr (e.g. a subset of a database, if that's all you need). Edit: clarity and a typo Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I was not real clear in my original post. But the answers I got still answer my question. Looks like what I should and can do is, when needed delete the waypoints from the GPSr. Then load waypoints from the desired database. Done with that database, delete it and load a new database. I do use the filter option a little. The main database I use has something like 1100 w.p. so when I load into my GPSr I will set the distance to something like "less then 20 miles" I have also filtered by direction so as not to load WP in a direction I will not be caching. Thanks for the help, Al
  8. I have a question, it has more then likely already been addressed but I could not find what I need. Here's what I would like to do. I have a Garmin76CS, PDA Tungsten E, and us GSAK. I have so many waypoints that I end up filling the GPSr. I end up not being able to load anymore waypoints. I have 6 databases set up in GSAK, can I download waypoints from the GPSr back and forth into GSAK with out lossing anything? If I can I would just load the waypoints for the database I will be using. Thanks for your help, Cache On, Al
  9. Ok, help me out here. I'm not a computer guy(Cement Mason) How do I up load the gif of the map into my profile? I have created the map and saved it on my 'puter. But I don't know what to do after that. Thanks for your help, Cache on, Al
  10. Thanks all for the info given. I checked out and bookmarked "Chapter 8 - The Cipher exchange" At first glance it does look a bit overwhelming. I have only been caching since Jan 05. Here in the Mpls/St.Paul area there are some awfully difficult caches to dicpher. The people that place and figure out these type of puzzles are light year ahead of me. I'll keep looking for the answer (with the help found here). Maybe after a few cachers have figured this one out maybe the cache owner will post a clue or two. Stay tuned Again, thanks for everyones help. Al
  11. Hello Cachers, I'm working on a cache that has the coords. encrypted. The cache owner has told me its not Playfair or Vigenere. Those where the two I was working with. Have no experience with Vigenere, but have used Playfair a couple of times. Could someone "clue" me into other key word ciphers? I'm getting close to my 300th find and this would be a great one for the occasion. Thanks for your help, Cache on, Al
  12. That did it, thanks for your help. Al
  13. Hello, I have a quick question. Can I switch the bearing/hearding from Letters ie NEWS to numbers ie 45* and so on. Thanks for your help, Al
  14. Hello Cachers, I have been having a problem when downloading caches using "Pocket query". It seems to miss a lot of caches, I just spent 30 min dloading a bunch one at a time. The missing caches are within the limits set up in the query as far as distance goes. Caches further away are downloaded. In setting up the query I did not check any boxes that would disallowed the missed caches. Out of say 15 pages downloaded there will be missing caches from every page. This has been an on going problem for sometime now. I download the query, extract and open with gsak, from gsak I send them to my GPS (GPSmap76cs) I also send them to my PDA on which I run Cachemate. It bugs( )me when I get home and start to log a find, check the map and it shows there are other caches in the area that I did not get downloaded. Anyone else have this type of problem/solution. Thanks Al "Cache on"
  15. I worked on a cache like this, difference was the sides of the triangle where not the same. What I did was put both known waypoints on Mapsource. I did not know the distance to the 3rd waypoint, just heading. So I did a waypoint projection out a distance that I figured was further then the 3rd waypoint. I did this from both known points, then moved the cursor to where the projections crossed and read the coords at the bottom of Mapsource. Al
  16. You've got the right steps, just in the wrong order: Don't click 'new' until after you've entered the name of the new DB, then click 'done' I stand corrected. There is no "add" option, clicking "new" establishes the new DB. All righty, got the new DB on the PDA. Now when I download WP from GSAK, how do I get the WP in the right DB. Do I have said DB open and then do the download? Doing this for each DB I have. Thanks for all the help, Al
  17. I wanted to install a couple of different databases on my PDA and followed these steps but would not seem to work. I clicked "New" entered name clicked "done" Then when I went back to check DB only the "Defualt" DB shows up? What might I be doing wrong? Thanks, Al PS at the bottom of the screen when I select "Select Database" I don't have a "add" button. Just "Done" "New" "Ren" "Del"
  18. Here is what I did, using Mapsource I entered the two known points. Using GeoCalc I did two waypoint projections using the given headings from said waypoint. I had to used 5 miles as the distance so I would be out past there intersection. I did the same projection using my Garmin 76cs is gave me a slightly different locations, so I ended up with different waypoints based on their intersections. This morning I went out searching, no luck. We had about 8"of snow yesterday and this made the search a little harder. I did look around any near by places that had the right look to them, but with no luck. I have been in contact with the cache owner and he did tell me I was in the right area. He also told me the cache was winter friendly. He also offered to evaluate my coordinates, but I wanted to do the search frist to see if I might be right. So that is where I'm at. I will email the owner to see if I'm even close. Thanks again for everyones input. Al
  19. Thanks for the quick replies, Using Mapsource the distance between the 2 known points is 3.888 and the heading from the 1st to the 2nd is 101 degrees. I guess in a perfect world there would be a website or program that I could just install the known info and have it spit out the needed information. Maybe I need to shop for an idiots guide to trig.? Al
  20. Ok folks, Here is another waypoint question(I don't want the answer to a problem, just help in finding the solution). This problem involves 3 waypoints, two locations are know. From these 2 waypoints I'm given the heading from each to the new waypoint, but no distance. Also neither of the headings are 90's. So I need to find the distance from both to the third waypoint(where the 2 headings intersect). I did place the 2 known waypoints on Mapsource and do waypoint projection out to a point that the 2 intersected, but don't think this is all that accurate. Has anyone worked on this type of problem? I sure could use a bit of direction. Did check out google with not much luck. If you are able to help, Thanks for your time, Al
  21. When using gsak click on *file*export*cachmatePDB you will get a template at the bottom slect "generate". This will creat the file that will be loaded into your Palm next time you hotsync. Hope this helps, just figured all this out myself a short time ago. Al

    Backpack

Hello Cachers, I have been caching now for just over 2 months. I'll carry my GPS, PDA, cellphone, something to trade and a pen. Come summer I can see myself carrying additional things such as water and what ever. How do people carry all their stuff? Backpack, fannypack or just pockets. I have even thought about a hunting vest. How about your opinion on this? Thanks, Al
  23. Check out these links: http://www.rot13.com/ http://www.rot13.org/ You might also be interested in this similar thread. Thanks for the link, it will help with a couple of caches I have in cachemate. Al
  24. I know what you mean Spamhead, I also live in Minnesota (Bloomington) and have seen these caches. I would also like to solve them but, have never been very good at this type of problem solving. I have a couple of caches that mention ROT-13 encryption, I have no clue what this is. When I checked out geocaching.com today I see just the problem you are referring to. I check the caches log and several people have figured it out and found the cache. Must be me. Al
  25. Just a short update, I found this site http://www.xsnrg.com/geocachingwa/bearingdistance.asp only problem, it would not work at this time. I will try again later. I did us a site give me by one of the people responding to my question. I took the new location and went out hunting, did not find the cache, partly due to snow cover. Did contact a cacher that has found the final cache and sounds like I'm on the right track. Thanks for all the help, Al
