  1. Unfortunately, there is no software that I know of that will communicate with a serial connected Garmin GPS on a mac even though you can get usb to serial converters that work no problem with mac. I had this problem on my mac with my eTrex Legend but it was not a major problem for me as I also use Windows XP on my mac in bootcamp and in a virtual machine using virtualbox so I can run Snow Leopard and XP simultaneously. Installing Windows using bootcamp is probably your best option as it is very easy to do. Just make sure you back up your hard drive before you partition it.
  2. I bought myself a new Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx to replace my ancient eTrex Legend.
  3. To learn to use my new GPS when it arrives (GPSMAP 60csx) and to find at least one cache per weekend. I just need to find time to do schoolwork as well.
  4. Did you load the USB drivers? The eTrex and eTrex H both use a serial connection so no need for USB drivers.
  5. If it has no memory card, and reseting has no effect, and you are placing the files in the right place, then I agree that it is probably faulty. It's up to you whether you get it replaced or refunded but, assuming you chose this unit over others for a particular reason, I would have it replaced and then get a refund if that unit still has problems.
  6. The other solution to your problem is to use xp mode to transfer files to your gps but you can only do this if you have windows 7 professional or ultimate. You could still use xp in a virtual machine using virtual box and use that to transfer files to your gps. Although both these solutions are probably more complicated than finding a windows 7 compatible driver for you product or another product. Just ask if you want more info about running xp in virtual box.
  7. I have come across a very similar problem to this before and it turned out that the memory card in the unit needed formatting. If your unit uses a memory card I would try formatting it. If it doesn't, then you might want to try resetting the unit or checking that it definitely supports reading gpx files and that you are transferring the correct files. It sounds like you are transferring the correct files if you are just transferring the gpx files from pocket queries so maybe you aren't putting them in the correct place on the unit?
  8. Are you using a Mac or Windows PC? Are you using a serial to USB converter? If you are using a mac then it won't work as I have tried it on my mac. If you run Windows with Bootcamp on your mac you should be able to get it to work if you have the correct driver for the converter (if you are using one) and the garmin communication plugin installed in your browser. If you are using a Windows PC then it should work without any problems if you have the correct driver for the converter (if you are using one) and the garmin communication plugin installed in your browser.
