  1. Garmin Topo USA for hiking comes in handy. My base map didn't have local resevoirs on it.
  2. My check looked like a postcard. I could have very easily thrown it away if I hadn't looked closely.
  3. Since nobody else has answered you I will take a stab at it. I believe that yes is the answer, within reason. You can only have so many map tiles loaded. Something like 2200. I also believe that the maps are then organized in layers and you can switch between them. I don't own CN8 so please realize that I am not an authority. I can tell you that I couldn't get all of Topo US on a 1 gig card because of the limited number of tiles allowed.
  4. They both make a fine product. Go with whatever is cheapest.
  5. Nothing is really Mac friendly. I load caches to my 60CSx with my Mac and GPSbable+.
  6. Cabela's prices are pretty high. Last I looked they wanted about $100 more for a 60CSx than most online dealers. I would guess they aren't much better for Magellan.
  7. Thanks embra. It's a shame that there is no trail data but I'll bet the map is amazing. Garmins Topo is simply adequate. If you haven't gone down to Prettyboy, you really should. It's beautiful down there.
  8. Great site for topo maps http://www.topozone.com/ Ray I'm using Topozone to get a map of Gunpowder Falls State Park/Prettyboy Reservoir. It's a nice site.
  9. I would like to see how Gunpowder Falls State Park/Prettyboy Reservoir in Baltimore County MD looks on the Delorme. Do the trails show up?
  10. Sorry, I keep forgetting about the grayscale units. My mistake.
  11. The only cable I have is the serial cable. Since I would guess that any GPS I buy will come complete with a cable I see no reason why I can't send it to you. Let me know. The Venture is the same unit as the Legend. The differences are that the Venture is yellow and DOES NOT INCLUDE the cable or software.
  12. If you can use it as an mp3 player, then by all means, do so. But for me half of the fun of caching is just being in the woods seeing and listening to what I don't see and listen to in the 'burbs.
  13. The DeLorme has the exact same display as the Venture/Vista and I believe it has the same antenna/chipset. DeLorme clouds the receiver issue with their own trade-name. From past experience, DeLorme's upgrade practices are horrific, that and the poor battery life were major reason to go Garmin vs DeLorme. In the month that I've owned the Venture Cx I've been very impressed. Hermit I didn't realize that DeLorme had such bad upgrade practices. How are they at customer support in general?
  14. Have owned 4 different models of Garmins and 3 Magellans used mostly for geocaching and street/trail negotiations. In my opinion the best GPSr on the market right now is the Delorme PN-20. The unit compares with the Garmin 60/76 CXS models as a receiver. The big plus, however, is the Delorme mapping software which is light years beyond Garmin and Magellan maps. King of the hill is Delorme topo 6. Been there done that! I didn't think the DeLorme had the Sirf III chipset. Wouldn't that make it a closer match to a Vista from a hardware perspective?
  15. "site of a tree" or sight of a tree?
  16. I believe that means an "extra" unlock code. It should come with two if I'm not mistaken.
  17. I've been using Macs since 1994 and have NEVER had a virus or spyware problem.
  18. I didn't know the Legend Cx had a Sirf III chipset. I thought you had to move up to a 60x or 76x unit to get Sirf III.
  19. Get your iMac with XP (not Vista) and Parallels installed and you will have the best of both worlds. OS X to surf without virus, hacker and spyware worries and the ability to run Windoze apps when you have too.
