  1. As far as I'm concerned, YOU are the one spreading misinformation. YOU should have done the research and asked questions here BEFORE you bought the cheapest/almost cheapest GPSr that Garmin makes. If you've been using Macs since 1984, you should know the realities of the support that you can expect and what ports are and are not available to you. It is what it is. Step up and take responsibility for your mistake instead of blaming Garmin. That's what we teach our children. From the webpage: Notes: System Requirements: Intel-based or PowerPC G3 or later Mac OS 10.4 or later Firefox 2.0+ or Safari 2.0+ Change History Changes made from version 2.2.0.1 Beta to 2.2.1.0: Added the capability to read and write courses, workouts and user profile to fitness devices such as the Edge 305 and Forerunner 305. Added the capability to plan trips by writing locations to SD cards without a GPS device present. Added the capability to allow a web site to read a directory of fitness activities or courses and then just retrieve details for individual activities. Added a property to allow web sites to retrieve fitness data in compressed format. Once a user has confirmed to the Garmin Communicator that they trust a particular web site directory, pages at or below that directory level are always trusted The Forerunner 50 is not yet supported on the Mac. (Support will be added in a future release when drivers become available.) RS232 serial devices are not supported on the Mac. Instructions for using this software Click on "Download" and choose to save the file to your computer. Double-click the file to open it. A new Finder window will open. Locate and double-click on the 'Garmin Communicator Plug-In' icon. Follow the installer program's prompts to install Garmin Communicator Plug-In.
  2. I can't remember Macs ever using a RS-232 serial connection and I've been using Macs since 1994. Wasn't it a DB-9 connector? I don't believe Macs have used a serial connection since the old Blue & White G3s. Let me guess, you were walking down the aisle at Walmart and saw some GPS units and said "Wow, that looks cool, which one is the cheapest?".
  3. That's creative and certainly frugal. However, my wife would beat me with a stick if I did that to our Subaru. She'd probably kill me if I did it to a BMW.
  4. Most people use those email accounts to remain anonymous. My guess would be that they want a valid email address in case there is a problem with your payment.
  5. If it's gotta be one of those three, then you get the HCX.
  6. Interesting take. How about toilet paper? How do you feel about toilet paper? You could just use your hand. Heck, that would be free. Messy, but free all the same. And imagine the dinner conversation when you tell your guests, who you just prepared dinner for, that you use your bare hand instead of toilet paper. I'll bet they'd all be impressed about how much money you saved.
  7. Because you can't run OS X on an off the shelf Windows box. It's that simple. If you don't see any advantage in running OS X then by all means, buy the off the shelf Windows box. I'm not here to convert you and honestly don't care what you run as far as an OS. Myself? I'm waiting for the MacPro update and then I'm going to wait until the refurbs are on the Apple Store. Then I'm going to buy. www.macrumors.com
  8. Just so you know, the "new" MacPros aren't so new anymore. It's been a year since the last update and the next generation is due in the next few months. The prices for the new units will almost certainly be the same as the current generation so you will get more bang for your buck if you can hold out. Don't buy ram or hard drives from Apple. Their prices are insane. Also know that the MacPros come with a keyboard and mouse and that OS X is far and away superior (IMHO) to anything that Microsoft is offering. I run XP everyday at work and OS X at home every night. You can run Windows on any Mac that you decide to buy if you have a need to do so. It can be run as a virtual machine right beside OS X or you can boot into Windows if needed.
  9. I had the exact same problem. Nobody could help me here so I entered my "Home" coordinates again after converting them to a different fomat. I'm not at my Mac right now (I'm at work) so I can't tell you which format I used. Hopefully I will be able to post when I get home to let you know. if you use the bottom one in the converter, 51.38717 format its more acurate than the standard geocaching format. Yep. That's the one. I was 80 miles off to the SE.
  10. I had the exact same problem. Nobody could help me here so I entered my "Home" coordinates again after converting them to a different fomat. I'm not at my Mac right now (I'm at work) so I can't tell you which format I used. Hopefully I will be able to post when I get home to let you know.
  11. When I enter my home coordiates into the location field, I show up 80 miles SE of my actual location on the map. Is this a bug?
  12. Hmmmm, it keeps putting my Home location about 80 miles SE of my actual coordinates when I click on he Location button in the maps field.
  13. Garmin has not yet released the Mac OSX version of Mapsource. It is very likely that when they do, you will be able to use Topo 2008, and all of the other Garmin maps that use Mapsource, with you Mac running OSX. Thank you for your response Barrikady.
  14. Okay, I gotta ask. Is this new Topo Macintosh compatable or did Garmin bone us again?
  15. I don't believe anything like that exists for $200. Maybe I'm wrong though.
  16. How about "It's MY money!"? LOL. That should only cost you one of your most precious pieces of anatomy.
  17. Anything else you want in there for $100? ;-) You can get a used legend for $100. Used metroguide for roads and used worldmap will likely add up to another $100. The Legend only has 8mb of mem, so you'll need to load maps wisely. not ecxactly what I was looking for What are you expecting for $100?
  18. The only City Navigator that I found on JJI Electronics site was version 7. Did you get version 7 or version 8?
