  1. I have a Garmin 76c (without the compass) and this works great for me,other people really love the 60/76cs!! I think it's just a choice you have to make for yourself. No compass means more battery-power. Compass means getting on top of the cache even when you don't have a sattelite fix. On the other hand:you can buy a good compass in any outdoor-shop for a lot less than it will cost you to upgrade from a unit without to a unit with. O...and by the way....I have a suunto wristtop with all the functions that didn't come with the 76c,so I'm not complaining!! Greetings from the Lowlands...
  2. Man.....you must really want that GPS to arrive!!!! Hope you don't have a girlfriend, because she's gonna miss out on some serious quality time with you when the GPS arrives!!!
  3. Hmmm.......well,no doubt it has something to do with the barometric/compass functionality because I have a 76c but no jumpmaster screen.... That's all I know......good luck finding out!! (Hope you know what all the gauges in the cockpit are for though!! )
  4. Very good choice!!!!!You won't be disappointed, that's for sure!! Next time your parents get lost by car or on foot and they don't have a small superior GPSr with them, which will guide them back to the front door of their house, they won't think you're that retarted...I swear!!! Greetings from the Netherlands..
  5. I can give you my account-number!!!! (If it makes you feel better... always nice to help someone!!!)
  6. You'll be 100% HAPPY!!! You will be so happy......people in your neighbourhood will start asking questions! Like...:what are you on?? or:did you win the lottery?? Or maybe just:hey......did you finally upgrade from legend to 60c!!!
  7. Yep....I know!! Can't be done!! (well....not without force anyway.. )
  8. All you want to know and lots more in this linky link:gps 65c(s)
  9. After you downloaded the waypoints from Easy-gps to your Vista, you must assign a (closed) treasure chest to them to activate the geo-cache function. (hope this whas the answer you were looking for!!) (edit:once you found a geocache, the closed chest will change to open and will be added in your agenda)
  10. Yup.....sounds like a problem with the battery-contacts. Read a lot of threads on that issue in the Dutch forum, but I thought it had been fixed by Garmin,'cause the last complaint on this issue was a couple of months ago...(guess not!). Indeed you can try and fix it yourself..(shouldn't be too difficult) put a piece of rubber on the inside of the battery-lid,wrap the batteries in tape or put some rubber behind the battery-springs. But maybe better to send the receiver to Garmin and they will replace the springs for new ones. Greetings from the Lowlands.... (don't mind my English....I'll bet it's better than your Dutch!!!!)
  11. Okay....,I must admitt.......it really sounds cool, all the plans Magellan has with their new explorist 400/500/600 series...... It would even make me think about trading in my Garmin map76c (witch I absolutely love, don't get me wrong!!),if only they would do something about the lousy battery-operating time (14hrs) witch seems to be standard for all Magellan receivers. And also don't tell me that it only has a rechargeble battery-pack....I want to be able to switch battery's on the go!!! However....we will not know if this is going to be a dream-machine for some time....(awaiting the first reviews with a passion!!) Greets from the Lowlands
  12. I'm using a Garmin map 76c and a suunto wristtop (with barometer and compass) and this combination works fine for me!! I think,as with everything, there is no ultimate.....but the Garmin 60c(s) and 76c(s) come pretty d**n close!!!! Before this I've used a Magellan meridian color which was quite good, except for the battery-time....
  13. I love my fjallraven trousers. They are made of G1000 material wich is very strong, yet nice and cool in the summer, you can wax it to make it water repellent, musquitos can't sting through them and all the pockets you'll need.Second place would be for The North Face and Lowe Alpine. Greetings from Holland...
  14. I've got a neoprene case from Gilsson for my map76c (www.gilsson.com) and this works like a dream. Perfect fit and great sattelite lock. They also sell beautifull cases at Cartom:http://www.cartom.virtual-space.com/gps.htm but the sales-guy told me that the cases designed for the 76 & map76 are too tight for the newer map76c(s),they will look in to making cases for these models too, though!! Hope I have been of some help. Greetings from a happy hiker from Holland
