  1. Well it is time to say good bye to 2010 and hello to 2011. Wishing everybody a very HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hope to see you all at the Winter Formal.
  2. That's cool Ted. I lived in Thailand for 3 years long before there was geocaching, but I have since gone back and found 1 in Pattaya and one at Ang Koh National Park near Koh Samui. Oddly enough in all the time I spent in Thailand I never made it to Chang Mai.
  3. HEY!! I resemble that remark! Indeed, Markca - welcome aboard. The forum isn't as active as it once was - seems as though folks have tended to migrate to Facebook, along with 500 million others. We also have an outside forum. at http://www.cvgeocachers.com/ Though like Photom said poeple aren't using it nearly as much anymore. The outside forum has been taken offline.
  4. So who's up for S'Mores & Snores VI on May 28th weekend?? Count me IN!!
  5. Hello Bill. Long time no see or hear. What the heck have you been doing since you have not been doing much caching? You just missed on great event. the 2nd Annual Winter Formal was a blast. Sorry not to see you there. Well maybe, just maybe, you will see fit to come to the 5th annual Snores and Smores event.
  6. Now what were we talking about. Wow still very impressive Tom. HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!
  7. Yeah baby! There were cookies and friends, you remember friends, Bill?
  8. I'll come if you promise to come to the Bull Ride!
  9. I use the Google Earth when traveling to areas I am not familiar, IE Europe. Since I generally know what hotel I will be staying at, I would just put in the address of the hotel and It would show me caches nearby. then I could use a pocket query to to load up the GPSr and off I would go. Now when I put in a specific address, it doesn't show any geocaches. Is this what you all are talking about? It surely made finding caches in other parts of the world easier.
  10. Did you see the email BlindButNowISee was circulating?!?!? It was way more convincing than this.
  11. At the Winter Formal, someone brought a wonderful salad made with broccoli and I want the recipe. Can anyone share this with me?
  12. Hi Jodi, and welcome. Thanks to you and your husband for serving our country (military spouses serve as well just in a different way, and we couldn't do it without them). There is a really active group of folks down in your area that have a page called Dry Creek Geocachers http://drycreekgeocachers.com. They are a fun group of folks and some very creative and competitive people, there are a few that are really FTF hounds, but then every area has a few of those. Have a ball!
  13. They are pretty cool. However, with regular travel bugs and geo-coins being stolen on a frequent basis, want to bet on how long these would stay in circulation? AND SPEAKING OF GEMS..............I would like to tell you all about a wonderful thing that happened about 3 1/2 hours ago. Happy to be First is now Happy to be married! Our friend was married today and it was a really nice ceremony at the groom's new ministry. Of course this was a beautiful and fun ceremony. Of course the photographer couldn't stand not being the center of attention, so he backed into the chimes on the wall behind the proceedings and the minister without missing a beat was thankful for the bells. (Way to go Photom!) I didn't think there was enough blood in a body to make his face as red as it turned! Congratulations Sue & Bert!

  16. Great to see you back! We have missed you guys!
  17. Winter Formal & "Cache-Ademy Awards" This is sure to one of Modesto's premier events, covered by all the local Media. Well maybe not, but it sure to be a great time. I have noticed thought that there hasn't been much of a sign up. I know that with Christmas and the New Year everybody had lots to do, but now there is no excuse. What a great way to usher in the new Geocaching year, than a dress up, party down event?! Fun for all ages, positively no drunken debauchery, just generally alot of fun had by people that have at least one similar interest. Come on folks! The more the Merrier, let's get everybody out there and have a ball. By the way, I have decided against the tuxedo since I was unable to find the camouflage accoutrements to go with it, but I will be wearing my "going to a wedding" outfit.
  18. By round-a-bouts, I assume you are talking about traffic circles? Are you Brits? What did the reviewer say? I have found at least a half-dozen like that, and had one of my own until it was archived... was more or less this:"My concern is about the legal aspects " with out saying to much more...I was like ok you want to go there legal aspects, then theres A HOLE LOT of caches that have legal aspects is what I was saying to my self at that point....... but oh well they say ya or na on this stuff and I dont want to be a azz about a few caches I wanted to hide~ Here is a quote on a blog of an Iowa reviewer: Roundabouts On my way to and from one of my office locations, there's a newly constructed roundabout that I now pass through. It's so new that occasionally drivers in front of me seem to be confused about what to do so they slow down or even stop before entering. It's all I can do to keep from yelling, "Keep moving!" But I tell myself not to get too excited. After all, it's something new to them. They'll get the hang of it...eventually. Yesterday I reviewed a geocache that was placed in a roundabout (the first geocache in an Iowa roundabout submitted to www.geocaching.com that I can recall). Since I had not come across this before, I had to do some research to find out how other reviewers are handling roundabout caches, and to find out if there are any applicable local traffic regulations about walking inside roundabouts. Some reviewers say they use the rule of thumb that if there does not appear to be any pedestrian walkway into the center portion of the roundabout, it would appear that pedestrians are not welcome in the center portion, and therefore neither are geocaches. Think about it -- how distracting would it be to some drivers if they saw someone poking around in the bushes or rocks inside a roundabout when they're already trying to watch for merging vehicles while trying to find their exit? And it's not just me saying this. The Iowa DOT has a web site that gives advice about roundabouts. (I orignally wrote that previous sentence as "the IDOT gives roundabout advice" but that didn't sound quite right.) The IDOT says this: "Never walk though a roundabout or cross the center island." Bottom line, unless you seek and obtain special permission for your specific geocache from the local governing municipality, I'm not going to publish geocaches that are placed inside roundabouts . And I have known a geocacher to drive right over a traffic circle because they were distracted by the "stitching" on someone's clothing. (wink wink, you know what I mean, you know what I mean?)
  19. Now, as to the red herring recently suggested by tmkbk - "I have another question. How can three out of the area cachers (who had already gotten back home) get a FTF (in our area) within several minutes of the cache being published up in our area...AND the cache is so evilly camoed to boot? Hmmm? Hmmm?" a) Cachers from out of "the area" are really good! b] How does tmkbk know it was "evilly camoed" when she hasn't even touched it? c) How do you spell " S O U R G R A P E S ? " I think those three stinkers had advance notice and were caching with the cache owner!! Duh. Easy FTF's, huh?? I don't know but they were with me, and the cache owner was nowhere in sight! Why do we have to be "Stinkers"? Why all the hatin'? Can't we all just get along?
  20. OK, Enough already! In case anyone didn't see the tongues in cheeks, this was all in good fun!
  21. I think sleepless nights will be had by all However may have found some caches in your area.
  22. What a guy! You'll fit r9ight in.
  23. Maybe this will help????? Oh man, that is just wrong! Where is that moderator?!?!?!? I think at the very least these pictures should have included smell and taste!
  24. For me - any date will do, but JPD43 has a job. (Well he "works" for AT&T.) He picked that date so please negotiate with him. (I think he already has vacation scheduled on the 19th an 22nd and has no more left to schedule....) I am pretty much locked in but I do have another day or 2 coming but have to act pretty quickly to schedule them. What did you have in mind?
  25. Is there something wrong with my homebrew???? There is nothing like the smell of a pork butt or ribs smoking away while the sweet smell of hops and malt rise from your boil kettle Better yet the smell of pork butt or ribs on the smoker while DRINKING a home brew I agree! So when will we get to try some of this home brew and pork butt? We have a camping event coming up I think. And welcome.
