Hey, I'm not a lumberjack, or a fur trader....

Hmmm, Rusty O' Junk has a Geocaching related plate, but his is on a red pickup truck as I recall.

NYGO has previously approached GC.com about becomming the approvers for NY based caches. This would be similar to how some of the other states have their organizations helping out. We saw a need and thought that we were one of the best suited avenues to handle approvals, mostly because we knew the area and were familiar with the land management groups, most of which we have already begun soliciting blanket permission from. Last I knew, we were told that GC.com believed they had enough approvers to cover NY State and did not need any additional help at the time. Brogan was our point of contact, so he would have the most recent update.

Cache in Trash out Containers
Dekaner replied to American Eagle's topic in General geocaching topics
Aw shucks. Yes, we have -tons- of stuffed containers. If someone else nearby wants some (or wants to pay for shipping/pick them up) let me know. -
For event caches, Geommunity (a Geocaching community development project) is developing reusable activities. Currently we have created a Poker Run and a Golf Course game. More details are coming soon. Currently we have a website up for developers only, but should have something for the public in the next few weeks. Feel free to contact me directly at dekaner@kkf2a.com if you would like to become involved. - Dekaner, KKF2A Operative

Uncle Elwyn seems to be hanging in there, though his page could use an update. (I'm such a bad nephew.) His container was purchased at Michaels. It's basically a small canning jar with a rubber seal. I placed it in a ziplock bag as well just to be careful, but haven't had any problems yet. http://www.geocaching.com/track/track_detail.asp?ID=15877 - Dekaner, KKF2A Operative

We are planning the next Cannonball Run to begin about the same time as this year's. (Perhaps a little later as the season may be a bit more active.) We are also looking for ways to improve both the website tracking and the race itself. Unofficially, if you would like to make any suggestions, feel free to send them to me at dekaner@kkf2a.com and we'll take them into consideration. Thanks all who have participated in the race and the discussion here!! - Dekaner, KKF2A Operative

Sure enough, there was a color GPSr on my doorstep when I got home from work today. Woo! - Dekaner, KKF2A Operative

1) There are a number of calender options out there, try a few and pick your favorite. 2) There isn't a module that we've found yet that will integrate news from other sites directly into your news area, though this is something that Geommunity will be working on. You can still run more_news and syndicate news in a seperate block. 3) Again, nothing yet other than the default review module. Geommunity to the rescue ... eventually. 4) Haven't even explored this yet. Please share what you find out. - Dekaner, KKF2A Operative

Did they ever contact you confirming receipt of your find? I filled out my form and mailed it in, but haven't heard anything. I emailed Promotion Mechanics, but nothing there either. - Dekaner, KKF2A Operative

A simple question... why did you purchase your first GPSr? This is a general question, not specific to brand or model. Thanks. - Dekaner, KKF2A Operative [This message was edited by Dekaner on September 02, 2003 at 02:28 PM.]

To try and put things into perspective... A few days ago I realized that another Geocaching state organization had syndicated the news from my organization. At first I was upset that I hadn't been asked for permission first. Then it hit me, the news was posted on our front page and available to the public. Further, I wanted people to visit our site and read the news. Having it syndicated on their website just increased the demographic that was visiting our site. The same theory applies to Geocaches. They were placed for people to find. Personally, the more people who find my cache the better! Now if I made it a Members Only cache and listed it only on GC.com for GC.com members, that would be a different story. - Dekaner of Team KKF2A

Why don't you come up with the software and have people submit their cache data to your solution, instead of stealing it from them. This horse has been kicked to death and buried. A large enough number of folks have stressed that they don't want their data shared across sites, and I do my best to protect their right to own and manage their own data. Your concept is ill-conceived, though I'm sure you have the best intentions in mind. Jeremy Irish Groundspeak - The Language of Location Who said anything about listing their cache data? The site could just list raw numbers of finds without listing detailed cache data. BTW I emailed Elias a few days ago about the idea of an open-source solution that didn't require scraping the data, but never heard back from him. - Dekaner of Team KKF2A [This message was edited by Dekaner of Team KKF2A on August 19, 2003 at 09:43 AM.]

Went camping at a Geocaching event. We figured that if we didn't plan on having power at the campsite, what difference did it make if we didn't have power at home? - Dekaner of Team KKF2A

Where were you when the lights went out?
