  1. Thanks all, I will check out the websites. Also, I realize I was using the "recommended at night" attribute instead of the "Night cache". Still none within 100 miles...yet! I think I am going to make one. But I've also been wanting to make a puzzle cache, and a multi-cache, and a 5/5 cache, and a seed cache. I wonder what would happen if I rolled them all into one craaaaaaaaaazy cache. Epic? I think I'll try. I wonder if anyone would do it?
  2. Hey all, can someone point me in the direction of some information on night caches? And I don't mean SLs that are in a 24/7 lit parking lot. I mean flashlights and fire tacks type caches. I really want to find a few and I would like to hide one too. But when I search for them, I turn up all these with the night attribute that are just regular caches that can be done after the sun goes down. Anybody know where to go to get more info? Got links to caches? Thanks in advance for your help!
  3. Wow...good info. I think I am going to get this one. So just to clarify, I can run a PQ, upload it to the app, and then search for the nearest caches in the PQ, while ignoring all the others that I'm not interested in?
  4. Also, your problem may be that it's not in the tree or shrub. I had trouble spotting the non-natural hiding spots. Are there any lamp posts near the GZ? If so...feel around...does anything move, could something be hiding out of sight? This is a tricky one that you can miss untill you see it for the first time. Also, sign posts and other metal objects. Try looking for tiny magnets. Good luck.
  5. Make sure you are choosing post a log/field note, then chose type, add any other info, and hit save and send. It will tell you if they are successfully sent. If not they may be still in your phone, go to the log page and try resending them. The app stores the log until you submit it. There is no lag when I do it. If you exit the cache page and then re-enter and choose recent logs, you should see yours there. Make sure you are logged in. If you haven't input your username and password it won't send.
  6. Hah I feel you because I posted a lot of DNFs as a noob, but I knew better....it's common sense. I explained that I was new, and that was probably the reason for the DNF. However, I did come across one, with less than 10 where there had been a lot of tree maintenance. I posted this observation in my log and qualified it with a "maybe" the cache is gone....sure enough...it was the owner replaced and then I went and found it. So...yes...becarefull with your DNFs, but don't be afraid to post it and let the owner know if you suspect it "might be, maybe, possibly gone...but I'm not sure...I'm still new!"
  7. I accidently took a cache home with me for a night. It was magnetic nano in a sign, I parked right beside it so I got back in my car to sign it since it was all dark outside (late night caching). As I was signing a strange acting dude pulled up on the street not 50ft from the cache site. He was acting all weird so I decided to hit another cache and drop that one back off on my home. (Doh!) Totally forgot. I litteraly woke up at 0330...sat straight up in bed and said...SH!!!!!!!!!!!!T! My boyfriend convinced me to wait untill daybreak to take it back. But I didn't sleep well.

  9. Did find this: http://support.Groundspeak.com//index.php?....page&id=54 So...any luck with this...tips...suggestions?
  10. I had the same propblem. When you start out, I suggest looking for larger caches that have been recently found. Nanos and Micros can give you hell, don't try too many of them at first. Go at those little guys slowly so you don't get frustrated....read the logs to get some hints. After you have a few under your belt...and a few tricks up your sleve...they get easier.
  11. I've noticed that some caches have been adopted by others. How does this work? Is it just an agreement between the CO and the adoptive CO? Does the cache actually transfer to your acount? What is the procedure? There is a scenic loop series of caches by my parents house. Most of the caches are still good, but one of the nicer ones is missing since the land was cleared (about a year now I think). There are lots of DNFs explaining that the cache is now gone. But the owner has taken no action. I would love to adopt the cache to keep the series alive. What are my options? Thanks in advance for your expertise
  12. I'm with you, maybe cause I'm new...but I always leave a few items, even if I don't take anything. I especially tend to leave kid items, because I would want my kiddos to find cool stuff. The slimmer the pickins, the more I leave. I usually don't remove the junk, just add some treasure. But I did remove a USED wisp (toothbrush thingy) from a cache the other day....GROSS!
  13. I particularly like anything I can wear/collect/pin on/or clip to. Jewlery, charms, interesting beads, coins, pins, old estate sale broaches and earings, also biners and key chains. My absolute favorite item of swag is a small hand beaded seed bead bracelet with a clasp. It is simple and elegant, hand made with care, and I wear it all the time. I loved the idea so much that I began to make my own (I use elastic cord instead of clasps) but they look fabulous, are not expensive, fit in any cache film cannister or bigger, and will work for a youngster or adult. Hate it swag ideas: Moist wipes, regular ink pens, Wisps (those toothbrush thingys), chapstick, toiletries.
  14. i highly doubt it anyone would make an LPC a PMO cache other than that, the number of PMO caches is very small, of course you're not a PM member so technically you can show me any examples you don't have to find all the caches, you know? is that all you got from reading what the benefits of PM are that you get to see PMO caches? sure you picked up geocaching as a FREE hobby, but in order for you to enjoy it massive amounts of resources are needed that cost money yet nobody is forcing you to pay $30 a year to support GC instead you are FREE to enjoy it for FREE, so please don't complain about one of the perks i get as a PM, although i have not made any of my caches PMO Umm actually in my area there are several members who have hidden a lot of caches, and when the option came out...made all of them PMO caches. I totally agree with putting out a few dollars to help the thing keep going ( I paid). But the premium member caches irritate me a little. On the iPhone App, you just don't see them at all if you aren't a PM, I think it should be the same way on the search feature of the website too. I think that would take the "I just want your money" bad taste out of peoples mouth. If you knew they were out there, but didn't get it waved in your face every time.
  15. Ok, So I use my iPhone to paperless cache, locate the caches I want to hit, and view satellite maps. I don't really have much other use for a GPSr, and I am not familiar with them. So I was wondering if a Geomate Jr. Would be a good option for me to take over where I iPhone leaves off. (Basically it is slow to catch up and the coords are often off, especially for planting a cache) Anyone use this combination? Would it work for what I want it to do, or should I just save up and get a fancier one?
  16. oops duplicate...How do I delete it?
  17. Well, I'm really new, so I haven't run into many yet. But I did actually see the FTF on my very first cache. It was published in the morn, and I was worried about my coords, so at lunch I went back out to check it on my iphone. After i vacated I went the long way to burn some calories. From across the park I saw the cacher walking back toward my cache purposefully, when he continue on past the end of the trail...I knew he was going for it. It took everything I had not to chase him down and watch him find it. But I left him be...by the time I was back at work he had logged it!
  18. Grrr. Been wanting to reply to and ask questions in here for a while now but was having a problem getting into the forums. It said my username/password was not correct, and if I wasn't previously registered...that I had to register. But when I clicked register...nothing happened. I couldn't find anything in the help or the forums. (It wouldn't let me search because I wasn't registered.) Turns out it was a special character in my password from my Geocaching.com account that was tripping it up. If you having the same problem, and trying to figure out how to get in: Go to your www.Geocaching.com account log in and change your password leaving out special characters. Come back to forums, use your Geocaching.com username and password to log in. Hope my rant helps someone. Is that like a noted problem...will it be fixed?
