  1. I'm sure this has either been answered many times before, or is quite possibly one of the more silly questions that get asked here. So I appologize in advance. I'm looking at the Garmin website and comparing an Etrex Legend and a GPS Map 60c side by side. In the "Database or Basemaps" area I notice "Americas Highway or Atlantic Highway or Pacific Highwayand Marine Point Database" listed under the Legend, and "(Recreational Routable Basemap, Americas) or (Recreational Routable Basemap, Atlantic)" under the 60c. I realize just by reading the Legend runs off a database and the 60c runs under a basemap. What's the difference between the two? And is one better than the other? The reason I'd like to know is that I'm still debating on my first GPS device. I've heard lots of good things about the Legend, and amazon.com still has them on sale for $135.94. I wandered over to the costco.com website and they have the 60c for $369.99 (MSRP from garmin lists them at $482.00). It certainly has a lot more bells and whistles than the Legend and my budget would allow for the purchase of the 60c. I'm just also curious as to who has a 60c and how do they like it. Again I appologize for posting a silly question.
  2. If you buy your GPS device online, amazon.com has the Etrex Legend for $135.94 plus free shipping. They will also knock off an additional $30 if you sign up for their credit card making the cost come down to $105.94. I've been reading a lot of info here online and checking sites such as ebay and I think I have finally settled on the Etrex Legend as my first GPS device. It looks pretty easy to use, and is relatively inexpensive. I'm just waiting to get my W2 so I can do my taxes and get my refund check so I can order myself one. Just my 2 cents.
  3. Yup. Keep posting and you'll soon be out of tadpole phase. I just need to get an avatar together.
  4. Once you get past 10 posts you'll change from tadpole to geocacher. for the premium memberships I think you can change that on your own.
  5. As the saying goes: It's only fun until you shoot your eye out"
  6. Most boards I hang out on let you change your post handle after any where from 2500 to 5000 posts. So far I've only been able to do that at one message board. Gotta love college football discussions
  7. I am very interested in your offier. Does the $140 include the shipping or will shipping be a bit extra? Please PM or send me an email with the details.
  8. I would say I'm a learning lurker. Just started posting a few days ago after being referred here from another message board. I still haven't gotten a GPS device yet, but should be within the next couple of weeks. Already have a couple of caches not far from where I live that I am going to attempt to find once I get all my gear. Until then, I'm checking out the boards and learning quite a bit about Geocaching. I can't wait to get out in the field!!!
  9. I looked at ordering the ETrex Legend on amazon.com myself. $135.00 and free shipping is DEFINITELY a great buy. I noticed though, you can save an additional $30 if you apply for their amazon.com visa card which would make the final cost: $105.00 Then again, I need another credit card like I need another hole in my head. Amazon.com is a great site and I do a lot of business with them. Haven't had any problems.
  10. I too am a newbie having been sent here by a friend in the UK who has just taken up this interesting hobby. I'm in the process of making a decision on a GPS device and right now I'm leaning towards the Etrex Legend as it has a few more bells and whistles than the yellow Etrex and the budget will allow it. Is there anyone using a device other than Magellan or Etrex that they would recommend?
