  1. Hey everyone, I just got word from my cousin that she will be home so I am giving up my hotel room at the Rodeway Inn (near the dinner). Is anyone here interested in it before I call the hotel? Let me know ASAP!
  2. Good for you! I would have preferred a Choice hotel, but couldn't find one at that rate (including the Quality Inn with AAA) when I wass booking. I looked at my reservation today and saw the hotel was located in Umatilla & with the taxes/fees it would actually be a few dollars more than staying at the Motel 6 across the street from the Saturday dinner, so I changed my reservation. Kidvegas19 and I are also now booked at the Motel 6. They said coffee is set out at 6am... wonder if we can convince them to put it out earlier... I bet if all us cachers requested it we could get them to put it out at 5:30 I'll put in the request & will ask my teammates to do the same (they are also staying there)

  4. For anyone looking for a last minute hotel, I booked at the Quality Inn for about $55/night, 4.5 stars. I used my AAA discount though, but worth looking into!
  5. I am a member (as well as treasurer) of the Washington State Geocaching Association (WSGA). Last year we rolled out a statewide State Parks Geotour, in conjunction with the State Park Rangers & land managers. As part of them allowing us to do the Geotour we had to promise to help them clean up caches that were illegally placed (in WA you have to fill out a permit & get approval). As we placed our 103 caches we never once asked someone to archive their already existing cache, as both our group & the park Rangers want all the caches to be brought into compliance rather than be archived. Since I am on the opposite coast I can't speak directly to the matter, just want to show that many states are starting to implement the permit system. That being said, and looking at the history of WSGA I definitely think this situation stinks of hidden agenda. I honestly feel that if this was for the greater good of geocaching the land manager would work to keep the current caches (or finding a way to incorporate them in).
  6. I grew up in this area, I went to college in The Dalles and learned to windsurf as a kid in Hood River. Although I have not yet reviewed the entire route cache for cache (done about half so far), I looked at the overall route course and it appears to be fine. Jholly pointed out the "bad" caches that you will probably want to remove. I highly recommend that everyone bring along medical supplies (baking soda/water mix & calamine/cotton balls store easily) to combat poison oak should they get into it (is recognizable by its bright red leaves, will be small this time of year). The snakes will probably still be hibernating but it's always best to be on watch for them. If you have any questions at all please feel free to hit me up, I'm more than happy to answer anything for you. Sorry for the delay in this too, I should have offered my services earlier.
  7. Good catch. I'll make this a last minute change to the route. It should be on the Do Not Hunt list. Stop #100, also by the same CO, has the same notation on it, "not suitable for large groups via a cache machine."
  8. Lizzy - It depends on where you stay in Toppenish. I can tell you it's going to be better than most areas in Yakima (sorry to people who booked there, I hope you're not in the bad parts of the city!). I think we'll be just fine where you booked us
  9. I spoke with my cousin the other day who is stuck in Sandpoint, ID right now, apparently the roads in and out of Republic (at the time) were completely flooded, shutting off the town. Apparently it isn't only the passes in that area you need to worry about. If you want a more detailed report I can get one firsthand from her for you since I will be seeing her and can let you know what the roads are like.
  10. My teammate & I are looking for 1-2ppl still to run the route with, are you still looking? If so, let me know and we can exchange info.
  11. Is this still for sale? If so I'm willing to pay $200 for it. Thanks!
