  1. I have read parts of the manual.. its just a whole different feel. I have figured out it does track me as I drive for the most part. The compass is a little confusing compared to the radar on the phone app. But overall I took it out today, with my phone of course, and tried to use the GPS and only check the phone for reassurance. Found the Cache though! It will take some getting used to for sure, but overall I think it was a smart investment. Thanks for the links, I had the link to the manual was more of less asking peoples advise from switching from a phone to a GPS. The waypoints I have been trying to learn so that was helpful. I feel like a newb to geocaching all over again. But I suppose I was never an expert anyway. HA!
  2. I started out with my smartphone and loved it, the handheld GPS is not as user friendly BUT the cellphone lost signal ALOT, battery would wipe out quickly due to GPS drain, it would often glitch and bug and I would have to reset it a few times before getting back on track. One moment I am 40 feet away the next it would glitch and say I was 700ft in the wrong direction, sometimes it was right I was 700ft in the wrong direction other times it was just an odd glitch. Countless GPS hunts were cut short if it got cloudy outside, the phones never seem to have as strong of a signal as a regular GPS.
  3. So Santa finally brought me the Magellan eXplorist 310. I have been Geocaching with my phone and the android app c:geo since forever but the battery goes out very quickly, cloudy days kill my satellite signal or my phone will randomly freeze up and leave me stranded in the woods. I like the feel and the look and the map thus far but I can honestly say I am spoiled by the functions of a phone app and I have no clue what I am doing on an actual GPS unit. I have downloaded some Geocaches to it, how does it work to find them. Okay, that sounds ditzy, what I mean is, the phone app has a Drive by Drive instructions and goes with you telling you when you are close and a radar for finding them when you are on foot. I can't quiet figure ou the hand held unit. I am guessing I just load a cache up, and figure the map out and just head that way and find my own way to get to the location? I know somewhere on here I should be able to enter cords manualy? I can't seem to find it but I have to go download the manual for it to tell me still. It comes with a mini booklet that is about useless LOL Anyone else gone from a phone app to a handheld and felt lost? Or am I just "special" ..
