  1. I've had a PN-40 and loved it, but it died. So, I bought another one, loved it, and it has died after 18 mos. I replaced it with the Magellan explorist 110, thinking if I went a cheaper route, maybe it would last longer if it had fewer features. But, I hate it, just my opinion, I'm sure it's because I was so comfortable with my 40 and it's probably a fine GPSr. Anyone, with more experience with other models and brands that they think are comparable, and more longlasting than the pn-40 with advice would be appreciated. The features I loved the most were the paperless feature, the way it tells you how many feet to ground zero, accuracy. Thanks.
  2. I have a premium membership but I'm having a hard time searching for a cache with "leap" in its name, preferably in the bloomington, or south-central indiana vicinity. I thought it would be cool to log one, other than an event, that contained the word in its name on Leap Day! On a side note, I think it is totally awesome how Geocaching is making such a big deal about Leap Day, especially since it's my birthday Thanks for any help. -lvnitup
  3. Just my 2 cents, take the kids, go to a park or a cemetery and hunt there. There is a lot more space, fewer muggles, and more room for the kids to wiggle and help you find what you are looking for. I have always had at least one small child (age 4) with me for every cache so far. They think it's an adventure "looking for treasure", and it's hilarious to watch them try to be secretive if other people come near. However, it is impossible for them to be stealth in an urban or populated area, so I don't even try those anymore. We had our kids on hiking trails before they could walk and we've all survived. (In fact, we find it quite humorous to see the hikers in all of their hiking gear, boots and walking sticks, compared to the preschoolers in sandals.)Just go for it, have a back-up plan, for example, if you don't find any caches with goodies for the kiddies, take them for icecream or give them something from your trade stash. Just have fun.
  4. My few geocaching experiences have built upon each other so that nearly every short trip from home with the kids is hilarious. I geocache primarily with my 4 y.o and 6 y.o. and sometimes hubby goes along. However, by far, my 4 y.o. loves the game more than the rest of us. Imagine if you will, every parking lot light post or structure that has one of those pole skirts, he is attempting to lift each and every one. All the while saying, "I'm looking for treasure!" I can only imagine what it looks like to the muggles around us. Or, checking out every stump, pile of sticks or looking under every rock. He doesn't quite understand all of the details yet.
  5. Thanks for everyones input. But, I don't think I would call in sick for a ftf, or even get out of bed early. I had just noticed a couple caches had been posted a few days and noone had logged them. Anywho, the kids and I went to the park instead and had PBJ, played on the playground and found a well visited cache. Have a good one.
  6. If she called in sick, then she had plenty of time to look for the log.
  7. Please bear with me, as I said, I am a newbie and don't want to offend anyone or play unfair. But, if a local geocacher has recently placed a few new caches into play, is it selfish or unfair to race out and be the ftf in all of them just because you have a few days off from work and can? Is that going to bum them out that the same person found them all first? Thanks.
  8. Thankyou for the welcome and the info. Obviously, I should have paid more attention to the word "solicit" when reading the guidelines. I'll just blame it on staying on the computer too late when I should have been sleeping. Thanks again.
  9. I have read the rules for hiding a cache. I am not trying to promote a particular charity. But, the swag I bought for this cache came from the said charity's gift shoppe. The possibility is such that the charity name may be on the swag someplace, similar to the way a hot wheels car would have "hot wheels" on it. Is this violating any rules. None of the swag has the logo as a primary symbol? Just trying to clarify so that no one is offended and rules aren't broken. Not that it matters, but it is not a charity that attracts conflict of any kind. thanks for any clarification or help.
