  1. There's so many logsheets available on teh intarwebs it's kinda nertz! And so many different versions - I must've downloaded 2-3 dozen in everything from PDF's to RTF's.

Then one day I came across one I thought was a great idea....it was a whole set in one Excel file!

PDF's are hard to customize without the extra Adobe software....and I absolutely LOATHE trying to work in Word. But Excel is a breeze to manipulate, customize to your heart's desire, copy columns & paste to get several per sheet, any width & spacing you want, to fit any container, with cell framing so you can include lines for sigs, front AND back......and all saveable as a set of templates for future use - just open & click 'Print'!

And best of all - now instead of 30-some various files to search thru, it's all reduced to one convenient digital 'booklet'!

Here's my template for a pill fob micro that prints 1.6" wide. For the back, the cachename, 'FTF' spaces etc. are removed -- just the 'Date/Name' header & lines for sigs.

Thats a great idea. Do you share your Excel file?

  2. I currently own Garmin Topo 3.02 and DeLorme Topo 5. I use the Garmin software on my 60 CSX, Vista, and Rino and the DeLorme software on my laptop and home computer. Is there any reason for me to buy Topo 2008 since it still has less detail than the DeLorme or USGA data available? Come on Garmin we need more detail.. :)

  3. I have both units and you will not go wrong with either one you pick. Most of the time, especially on hikes, I carry the 60 CSX as my primary unit and the Vista as my back up GPS.

I find the Odometer to be more accurate on the 60 CSX than the one on the Vista but no real difference in navigation. Both are great units..

  4. Thanks Rick. I guess I will quit aiming and shoot. Now to find where to get it. ( or can I wait long enough to order it. ) probably not!

Look around you should be able to get a Vista HCX for about $250 or a Vista CX for about $200 from several of the reputable online sellers. After you have used it a while you may want to get City Navigator Software if you want or need auto routing. Good luck and I know you will enjoy it.

  5. I may be from Texas, but i am a show me how learner. How easy or hard is the vista to learn?

Basic operation of the Vista you can learn in minutes. More advanced operations will take you a good bit longer. You will find that the Vista is a great unit that will grow with you the more you learn.

  6. My 60 CSX full backlight runs 6 hours + with 2 Duracell 2650 mah batteries when fully charged. I use a La Crosse BC-900 charger and charge overnight at 500 mah. I no longer use a power cord in the car and have a 12v Maha 401 charger that I use in the car and just swap out batteries as needed. I get about 5 hours out of the same batteries fast charged in the car with full backlight.

  8. Very interested in the Rino's! Why you getting rid of them? Do they work good. Do they do what they say they do? Are all cables with them????

The reason I am getting rid of the rino 110s is I have purchased two rino 120s that a friend had and needed to get rid of quick. I now have 5 rinos and and I love them but these two are not getting used. I have another 110 that is banged and beat up that is an old friend and I am going to keep because I carry it as a backup in my Geocaching bag. Both of these units are almost new only used less than one hunting season. They don't come with a cable because I only have one which came with my 120. They do however come with belt clips, user manuals and wrist straps.

  10. Well apparently it wont have the SiRF III chip but a "high sensitivity" one.

Not sure if that will turn out good or bad (probably bad because Ive got a lot of dense canopy around here).

Any Idea if it will have a 3-axis compass like the astro?

If you look at the 60 CSX it isn't listed with a SiRF III chip any more it is also listed as "High-sensitivity receiver" so I assume they are the same. Maybe or maybe not the SIRF III chip!!!
