  1. Did Geocaching.com change the format of the weekly notification e-mail in some way? I got last weeks just fine and have changed nothing in my system settings, but today's notification e-mail came out looking like this... This message has been processed by Symantec's AntiVirus Technology. Unknown00000000.data was not scanned for viruses because too many nested levels of files were found. For more information on antivirus tips and technology, visit http://ses.symantec.com/ I use McAfee for virus scanning and firewall... nothing Symantec installed on my system.
  2. Those of you from the Knoxville area, or any of the surrounding areas are probably familiar with Boomsday. Every year, on Labor Day, the city of Knoxville and several area businesses host a massive celebration with a 30 minute fireworks display that is choreographed to music. Boomsday has always had it's share of big sponsors too, and in recent years, Jeep joined in. I was just looking at the Boomsday website (boomsday.org) and noticed Jeep is bringing a GEOCACHING EXHIBIT to Boomsday this year! Way to go Jeep... trying to get more people interested. I'm looking for an increase in the number of Geocachers in the East Tennessee area after this. Hope to get down there and check it out myself. Below is quoted from the boomsday.org website detailing Jeep's displays for this years Boomsday. ---------------------------- Jeep Adventure Trailer – Your opportunity to experience the Jeep Life firsthand Six seat Jeep Adventure simulator Geocashing Display Mopar Display Jeep Adventure video Action Sports display area featuring Tony Hawk skateboard Jeep Gear product display 26’ Rock Climbing Wall ---------------------------------------- P.S. And yeah, the misspelling came directly from their website.
  3. Yes, yes,, please tell us what's going on with the a900m tests!!! I WANT THIS!!!
  4. I was leaning more towards "A Whole Bunch"... now we just gotta figure out how many TBs come in a bunch. Bananas average about 6.. but they're bigger than TBs. And since bunches aren't always the same size.. it's really hard to say the exact number. Meh, just make up a number.. you're teacher will never know the REAL answer either.
  5. Anybody else had problems with mileage stats getting messed up while backlogging a bug? I've been real careful about making sure the dates were right.. yet for some reason only some of the logs are showing the mileage between caches. It used to work great.. I had 3400 miles on my bug, but after adding some more caches I had failed to log it into last year... I somehow lost 2300 miles on my bug!?
  6. Ahh, TBs and event caches. While we're on the subject, how about the bugs that were meant to travel from cache to cache and only seem to pop up in events? The contest is now over, so no use in mentioning the WJTBs I suppose, but I've noticed a few local cachers in my area seem to have an amazing amount of TBs in their possession... they bring them to events, let people look at them and write down the numbers... then take them back home. They sit on the event page until the next event is posted.. then get logged in there. I reallly wanted to release a couple bugs, but changed my mind because I figured one of these folks would end up with it and the only news I'd ever get about my bug would be when it visited another event and got logged by 10 people. Nah, not worth the effort now. And for the record, yeah, I did it once. My first and only event attended had a horde guarding a table piled with TBs (most of which were brought by one person/group). I was given a piece of paper and the TBs were passed around. Being a newbie, I wrote 'em down and logged 'em. It dawned on me later that I hadn't touched or moved these bugs in any way... why was I logging them? Haven't been to any events since. *shrug*
  7. Very creative pictures. It must have taken a lot of patience to get all those fishing lines in place for the contest photo! Looking forward to more adventures of Frog & Toad.
  8. I too have been looking for a better way to store my coins. I'd love to be able to put them all in air-tites, but alas, I'd still fear for the safety of those odd-shaped ones. I just wanted to add one thing to your comment about shipping coins in the plastic sleeves. I'm not sure what you mean by strapping them down though. I got some coins from someone who had "strapped" them down to an index card with scotch tape. What a sticky mess! One coin was in an air-tite... now covered in sticky tape residue and the others (currently being stored in a zebra-striped photo box for lack of a better method) which are still in the plastic sleeves constantly stick together. Someone else had a better idea. Another coin I received (plastic sleeve) had been wrapped in index-card before applying tape. That sucker wasn't going anywhere, but it didn't have to bare the tape's sticky residue either.
  9. Aww Nuts! Please tell me it's not too late to get a screw... geocoin, that is. I've been out of the loop for a while and this looks like a perfect reminder to get back out and hunt those caches that have been popping up so close to my home. If it counts for anything I was here for the original discussion of the Screw Geocoins and I think I even asked for a gold one on that thread! Looks like there was no Golden Screw after all and I guess I missed the Silver... so I'll take a couple "Standard" screws instead. Two screws are better than one... as long as you're safe, right?
  10. Subject: Switching computers, can I transfer GSAK?? Just bought a computer (used) from work that I will be using as my primary internet machine. Hubby plays around on the laptop which currently has my registered copy of GSAK on it. Tried accessing it through my network, but it's a pain to have the laptop running all that time, and silly WinXP doesn't want me looking at my Program Files directory on the Laptop (can't set sharing permission for that directory).... anyway. I downloaded a fresh copy of GSAK to install on the desktop and wanted to know if there is some way I can retrieve my registration code from the other machine to register this one. The copy on the laptop will not be used once I get this copy up to speed. Is there any way of doing this or do I have to register a second time for the new computer??
  11. Nice, was expecting a little color, but still a unique coin. One question though, why didn't they spring for the little hanger hole in the pear stem so you could hang it on the christmas (pear) tree?? All gripes aside, I'll take 2 gold and 1 silver. LOL
  12. Well, I'd be a little hestitant about ordering without seeing... umm.. how much are they?? Do they take Paypal? Want to trade one for a Tennessee pewter??
  13. Please post pic of partridge in pear tree coin! Haven't heard of that one yet.
  14. OK am I just blind or did it disappear? There used to be a locationless cache for special event search pages on Google.. like the ones with hearts for the O's in Google for Valentine's day, or the Father's day one with the dad in the hammock. You had to post your log on the day of the special search page logo and include the soecial logo in your log. I can't find it anymore. Anybody seen it, am I looking in the wrong place or has it gone away?
  15. I had something like this happen once. Hubby and I used to drive a truck and we were running through Wyoming (IIRC) @ 70mph. I had the GPS sitting on the dashboard of the Freightliner and wasn't really watching it. We passed one of those "Your speed is.." signs and I grabbed the GPS to see how accurate it was. The current speed was right on target, but somewhere during that trip we maxed 736 MPH!!!! Good thing there weren't many cops out that day!!
  16. Garmin eTrex Legend C Umm.. actually GPSExplorer.com is selling them for $239.95 with FREE shipping (includes a $50 rebate) until October 1. Yeah, it's just 5 cents, but you said NO PLACE online had them for UNDER $240 DELIVERED. You still haven't told us why you don't just return it... what dd you do? Buy a *hot* GPSr and cna't return it because you never got a receipt?? No thanks.
  17. Yes, CITO makes a good cover. I didn't have any bags with me when I went after this cache but found one laying close to the site. I had been waiting for quite a while for the muggle to clear the area since it was a busy trail and I didn't want to draw too much attention to myself as I exited the "woods." The bag provided the perfect cover and by the time I made it back to the trailhead I had not one, but two bags of trash. The kids mentioned in my log (Link above) saw me walking around with the bag and asked me if was picking up trash. When I replied Yes, they led me to another bag full that someone had discarded underneath a bridge. I have since purchased a backpack for caching and keep bags of assorted sizes in it at all times. Hadn't thought of the gloves yet, bt sounds like a great idea!
  18. This may be a little off-topic, but since it seems most of the charity auctions have come and gone... I was wondering if you all had seen these. Katrina Relief Effort Geocoins
  19. Woooo!!! I hadn't checked the mail in a couple days... what a surprise! Had 6 coins of various types in there! Awesome packaging job on these!!
  20. OK.. Finally got a little time and wanted to introduce you all to Dakota. Unfortunately not much is known about Dakota's past. We are uncertain as to his breed, whatever it is, he has some very wolf-like characteristics. Hubby and I had a wolf/husky hybrid about 5 years ago. Brittany was our first "child" and I still miss her. We used to live in a very quiet country community and Brittany enjoyed taking long walks with me through the adjacent fields. But some not-so-nice neighbors ruined things for us by breaking into our home and ransacking the place. Luckily, Brittany wasn't hurt but she must have intimidated the robbers because when we got home we found her locked in the bedroom (with what USED to be our queen-sized waterbed) standing in 6 inches of water. We went to stay with hubby's parents until we could find a place of our own. Brittany found a new home by way a friend of my dad's co-worker. She was a lonely woman who's husband had recently died and needed a companion. They hit it off immediately and at last word were very happy together. I told you that story to show that we have had experience with hybrids and had learned quite a bit about their "quirks" through our experience with Brit. They will try your patience until you are able to establish yourself as the Alpha of your little "pack"... but once you do, you have a loyal companion for life! When we got Dakota, he had been living with a family who had two other dogs already. Nobody seems to know for sure where he came from... the oldest daughters boyfriend "found" him and brought him over to them because he couldn't keep him. The other two dogs in the family were much older and bigger than he was at the time and quickly put him in his place as far as the order of the pack was concerned. i suspect they might have been a little rough with him, because he is very submissive with larger dogs. We kept having to chase the mother-in-law's Rotty (although nothing more than a huge baby) off Dakota's food so he could eat. He was willing to starve himself to avoid conflict with her. I put a stop to that as soon as I saw it happening. Over time, he finally started standing up for himself. Sassy and Dakota became best friends. Another mystery about Dakota is what makes him so special to us, and the reason hubby couldn't resist bringing him home even though we were practically homeless ourselves (living with in-laws who said "NO MORE DOGS!"). If you've noticed in the first picture, Dakota is holding up his left front paw. You'll see why in the picture of him and Sassy together. When hubby first saw him over at a friend's house, he was walking on three legs and would not touch that paw to the ground. supposedly he "fell" off the porch although nobody could saw when or how it happened. It's unsure whether it was an accident caused by man or beast but I suspect SOMEONE had something to do with it. Perhaps this is why he was so shy around new dogs. As soon as he brought him home, I scheduled an appointment for Dakota to see the vet. Silly dog LOVED the guy! We took Dakota on the same day my sister-in-law was taking one of her cats for a shot. Dakota couldn't wait until it was HIS turn to sit on the table and get this man's undivided attention! The vet certainly made a new friend that day. Unfortunately he said there wasn't much that could be done for Dakota's paw short of trying to re-break and set it. But after feeling around and watching Dakota's reactions he said it didn't seem to be causing him any pain, more of an inconvenience. In the 2 days we'd had him he had already started putting more weight on it and never yelped or whined when we touched it. So we brought him home, crooked foot and all and boy did this little guy flourish! If he stands still long enough for you to get a good look at it, you can see the crook, and it almost appears that one leg has grown slightly longer maybe to provide more stablity?? (Might just be my imagination too... but ya never know) But aside from the cosmetic difference, Dakota is all dog. He runs, jumps (loves catching tennis balls) and plays like any other dog and has a heart as big as the sky. He barks and barks and barks as soon as our car pulls into the driveway and won't stop barking until I go into the backyard and play with him. And don't even think about sneaking out and leaving without petting him and getting 'Kota Kisses!' I only wish we could let him live with us, but our landlord has a no-pet policy so he's staying with hubby's mom and dad (his grandparents). But he's happy and he enjoys his "job" watching over the neices and nephew. My nephew Cody came up with the name for Dakota. He said Dakota was a wolf and he needed a wolf name and "since wolfs live in Dakota, I think we should call him Dakota." Dakota was laying on the floor, halfway across the room when this conversation was going on, but when Cody said the name "Dakota", the dog perked his ears up and came straight over and sat down in front of Cody. "See! He already knows his new name!" So Dakota it was. As much as I miss seeing him on a daily basis, I couldn't take Dakota away from Cody now. After Sassy died, Cody cried every night and was afraid to go to sleep because Sassy wasn't there to protect them anymore. I brought Dakota in the house and sat down with Cody and Dakota and we had a talk. I explained to Dakota that Cody was sad about Sassy and we knew Dakota missed her too. But the two of them could help keep each other strong and take care of each other. Cody promised to help Dakota keep his mind off losing his playmate by playing with Dakota and Dakota promised to keep Cody safe at night by chasing away all the bad things. Cody sleep like a log that night and Dakota had a blast letting him chase him around the yard the next day. Nawww, I miss my "Kota" but I can't separate a boy and his (?) dog. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-8/1066090/dakota2.jpg Dakota - about 2 weeks after he came home with hubby.
  21. Quick question.. is there a deadline on this? Hubby took computer to work last night and I don'[t have time to write my story about Dakota as I'm on my way to work. But I would love to tell you about my special boy. Maybe hubby will leave me the computer tonight and I can write about him when I get home from work.
  22. I agree with TheStosh. A category for TN Historical Markers would be nice. There are several around, and I'm sure many people pass by them on a daily basis without even noticing them. These pieces of TN history should be recognized, what better way than to create Waymarks for them?
  23. The Tennessee coins will also have a unique icon. For anybody who knows what the TN flag looks like, the icon will be the blue circle with three white stars. I've seen a pic of it... Looks nice... kind of a 3d effect. I would post the icon here, but for some reason it has been changed back to the regular coin icon on the "Test Coin" page. Hmmm... hopefully that gets fixed soon. Edit: Adding image... managed to find this pic that shows the icon in inventory. This was actually the icon that was showing on the test coin until it changed mysteriously.
