  1. Not to mention getting dressed up in your little red and white number every winter and giving female geocachers the opportunity to sit on your lap Ho! Ho! Ho!
  2. We know of a TB hotel which states:- "There is a good chance of being muggled" We shan't be leaving any trackables there! It seems rather irresponsible to us I suppose we ought to email the CO
  3. I'm not sure that it really matters - after all, there are no "prizes". I guess most people are just enjoying the super photos that are being posted, I certainly am.
  4. Perhaps I am one of the few who actually like them and would welcome any left in our larger caches. We once set up a "Card Park" in one of our ammos - a flattish metal tin (like an old fashioned Elastoplast tin) which was labelled for the purpose. Unfortunately the ammo can went AWOL along with all of the contents
  5. .....and Paul with his Bridget Jones "big-pants" from the same year GCVFP3
  6. Welcome to you all We live on the outskirts of Wolverhampton but have done most of our caching in Shropshire (we could walk into Shropshire from where we live) It's a wonderful area Perhaps when your little ones are older you will be able to explore the Shropshire hills but there are plenty of other places to visit. You will probably find geocaching takes you to places you would not have visited otherwise. Hoping you enjoy your new found hobby ~ I'm sure you will Izzy & Paul
  7. Doh! Sleepynow beat me to it! I wish I could type quicker!
  8. There will be a camping event on 3rd - 5th September in Shropshire. gFab 2010 - Return to Shropshire Ok, there are not any huge "number trails" but there is some super walking country near Church Stretton - The Long Mynd, Caer Caradoc, The Stipperstones etc (you would have to like hill walking!) A little further afield (but still Shropshire) is Ironbridge with its picturesque industrial heritage. Bridgnorth has quite a few caches nearby (several LollyBob caches) There are two very nice trails at Badgers Dingle and Beckbury, both by Lost*And*Found @Badger Dingle (14 in the series) @Beckbury (18 in the series) If you are after numbers there are LOADS in Telford
  9. "Tubular Tuning Fork" by Mike "O-Field"? I was so intrigued by the location, I wondered if it would be on Google Maps - and it is Well done, HH
  10. Not in Wales but Marshm-Ella started caching at the age of 6 months. She has found 8 so far. She writes her own logs too Marshm-Ella's first find
  11. Photo taken when making a return visit to LQ: Shropshire - Lightspout Waterfall a few days ago.
  12. As one of the "not so local" hounds, we worked out that we would have to travel over 1200 miles to attempt all FTF's had they been published daily It would have been worth it though, it really is an excellent series
  13. Again, not technically brilliant but the poppy field was amazing! Izzy has a "Cadbury's Flake" moment GC1XY3B Ridgehill Woods No.1
  14. Not a technically brilliant photo but we felt it captured the essence of a a frequently used caption View from the cache GC26T3T Bek D I can see for miles
  15. I was tempted to reply to "the other thread" until I read *mouse*'s post and realised that it would just be a duplication. We have been caching just a few months longer than her so maybe it's not surprising that we feel the same way. Paradoxically although the number of caches to be found has increased enormously, we almost feel we have less choice - we seem to be caching within a much smaller radius from home. We used to travel a lot further afield and were delighted to be shown totally new places. BUT the answer is in our own hands, we just need to do more homework beforehand to sift out our prefered type of caching. We don't HAVE TO find all those near home. We have recently spent more caching trips just doing one or two "select" caches with longer walks and it has re-sparked our initial enthusiasm. This weekend we attended a 10 year event at Stratford (many thanks Donna and Mark) and we were reminded of the delights of visiting pastures new. I'm sure that those cacher's who were lucky enough to be in at the beginning of caching in the UK regret some of the changes that must have come about by the time we started. I'm just as sure that many of today's recent "starters" will be unhappy with the inevitable change in another 5 years time and it will lose its initial excitement. But I'm happy that it is still possible to cache in the way which WE like even though it takes more preparation. Izzy (or am I hiding behind my other half's name?)
  16. An "oldie but goldie" - still We completed it ages ago but it still has great memories for us
  17. Hi Villain With the incredible boom in cache placement it can be really tough picking out the scenic caches. We find it quite useful to check out any photos in the Gallery and have often chosen which caches to attempt on the strength of previous visitors' piccies. Rubery Blue's suggestions are very good. Perhaps I could suggest that you "go west, young man" if you would be prepared to head towards Shropshire. Bridgnorth is a picturesque little town and there are some scenic caches in the Severn Valley Country Park and a couple of series at Dudmaston not far away. If you check out caches placed by LollyBob many of them are in fun containers which I think your little girl might like. We've both lived in the West Midlands for over 50 years and have never been to Barmouth! Are we missing out on something?
  18. Our closest encounter occured on one of our night time caching expeditions. We were searching for the first part of a multi - a micro in an ICT. We were suddenly disturbed by a voice behind us asking about our activities. Without hesitation, Paul claimed that we were hunting for beetles. Quite a lengthy conversation developed between them whilst I continued to "hunt beetles" trying my best to stiffle any giggles and amazed at how convincing Paul's "expert knowledge" was coming over. The fact that it was the middle of winter and beetles were probably hibernating never crossed our friendly muggle's mind. The clincher, however, was when the muggle revealed that he was on the parish committee and that he felt that our exploits were worthy of a mention in the local parish magazine!
  19. Which forums are you browsing through, as you can't be referring to this one? Honestly, I have been frequenting this forum for well over 6 years and it has always been like this. back in 2005 I posted a similar thread titled Marmite, despite lots of forum users agreeing with me, nothing has actually changed. I am also ashamed to admit that I have been sucked into the angst on more occasions than I wish to remember. I try my best to stay out of it, but I just hate to see people who have double standards and short memories when they have their whinges. Ah well, must be my old age or my rose tinted specs...but I'm still convinced these forums used to be busier and more helpful... but there we go. Used to have fun on another forum by seeing how many 'depths' of quoting we could get into one posting (this one now has three) before the forum ground to a halt or a moderator popped up and told us to stop being silly. It was a lot more than three So what was the highest it got to?
  20. Egrets! I've had a few.........but there again, too few to mention
  21. As far as I am concerned, a six month placing ban would quite suit me although I feel it would be unfair for others. We have got 140 caches within a 10 mile radius which are still unfound by us. When we first started caching, as there were far fewer caches we travelled a lot further afield and consequently enjoyed a greater variety of locations. With the much higher rate of publication of new caches, we are finding ourselves returning repeatedly to previously visited areas. Admittedly we don't HAVE to do ALL our local caches but it has resulted in us getting a bit lazy. Having had a look at SP's aforementioned cache (which looks superb) I am reminded of one of the aspects of caching which initially delighted us ie superb locations in NEW areas. Therefore I feel the answer lies within my own hands. As a belated New Years Resolution, I intend to put more effort into seaching out MY idea of quality caches. (wonder how long I can keep it ) Izzy
