  1. While I agree that is it the cache owners perogative to kep sthe cache records accurate, there can be extenuating circumstances. I am grateful to one particualr cache owner who allowed me to log a find after I posed a note to the cache log.

The cache was within a state run park and Ting and I dragged my folks out to caching. (They don't mind, they like to exercise.) Anyway, we had found the cache in a truck of a tree. Sitting on top of the cache were a couple of snakes that did NOT want to be moved. sine I did not log a find since we did not sign the log. However, the cache owner did write to us and ask us to discribe the location. When we did, they offered to let me change it to a find.

    To good cache owners, cheers!

  2. Ting and I went off to the UK on Holiday. Before we left, I created a Pocket Query and asked for both EBook and GPX files to be sent to me. However, for the last few weeks prior to us leaving (May 10th), the GPX file appeared to be corrupted. Whether zipped or not, the file came to me was 2.1M and was clearly full of the 500 waypoints. However, when loaded into ExpertGPS, only 5 waypoints appeared. I checked the file in a text editor, all the waypoints were there. However, only 5 were recognized by ExpertGPS. Is there something in the descriptions or logs that might be inteferring or causing an error in the GPX XML Schema?

Congrats! Way to go! We look back on our hundred and it was a great milestone for us. Now, we are working on our 200 (on the way to 500).

  5. My wife gave me this Hiking Stick for my birthday. We've been getting into the deeper and harder caches, and I hope we never have to use the contents, but it is still kinda cool. icon_biggrin.gif

  6. The ENTIRE State??? WOW! Pretty adventurous, aren't you?

    *Knock knock* Hello, McFly??

Gee, with just two mouse clicks, I was able to get the listing of caches in the Tulsa Area. But wait, there's more. I also plan on visiting Del City. This is NO different than before.

I happen to like the new page. No more looking up zip codes. The Map is still there too. If I could change on thing, I would say that PERHAPS and link to ALL caches in the state would be okay, but keep the rest.

  7. ... I like the search by city feature and the fact that I can see the newest caches. It takes a little getting used to, but it seems to be reacting quicker. Besides, Ting and I like to travel and this makes it easier that trying to locate a zipcode for a city we might be near.

I wear a medium normally, and the medium vest fit me very well, so they don't run large.

As for kids vests, we unfortunately need to hold off until we sell through a lot of the vests. Our relationship with Sunrise is good but not that good icon_smile.gif

  9. ...wassup with that? I've placed some caches that were approved quickly. This weekend, I hiked a rather new trail and placed a cache along the way with permission, mind you, of the local conservation officer. I'm still awaiting approval, knowing this area is frequented by cachers.

  10. And, we will rent our services out to farmers. It seems EVERY place out of Indiana that we have cached at, it has rained. In Hawaii, they had record amounts of rain. In Florida, it was 3 days straight of rain (even the rain jacket I was wearing was starting to seep in a little bit). And, in Ohio, the lightning danced around as we placed travel bugs in two caches (are we INSANE?!). So, if you are a farmer outside of Indiana and in need of some rain, drop us a line. We'll cache for a little cash!

I had the same problem yesterday when trying to fond something on the map. I did not know about the beta and will try it. In the mean time, on the tool bar is a yellow X. Click it and highlight (drag a box) around the areas affected. It will delete those areas and reload them. Annoying? Yes, but it does work. I will be dloading the beta here shortly.

I just recently placed a cache filled with very nice goodies. I know it will degrade over time (though our area is pretty good about this), so I bought twice as much as I needed for the cache and will "refresh" my cache as part of my regular maintenance.

I don't think the monetary value is what most people here are looking for. I think it's the WOW value. The COOL ITEM value. They certainly don't have to be expensive. To some the reward is the hike; to others it's a momento.

Look, you put a lot of thought into which GPS you were going to buy. You put a lot of thought into selecting and finding the cache. Many put a lot of thought into their logs. All players are asking is that you put a little thought into your trades.

You carry water, GPS, pack, camera, etc. Why not carry a few trinkets of different values for trading. Will everyone agree on that value? No. But if you deliberately trade down (and you know it when you do it), you're just hurting the sport.

I tend to agree...trade up and try to stay with the theme. However, I am not going to count pennies either (Funny, BNL "If I had a million Dollars" just came on).

Anyway, there have been caches where I've found a cool tool or something else I wanted, but had nothing to trade of even monetary value. Did I trade?

Yes, but what we leave in trade (our signature item) is an uncleaned ancient Roman coin. Are they worthless? I have to buy them, so I say no. Do they cost as much as say a leathermans tool or a pocket knife?

No. However, their value (from my viewpoint) is worth alot more. Ancient Greece and Rome are hobbies of mine. We place these coins in the hopes that someone will take them and clean them. These coins, once cleaned, may reveal an emporer/caesar. This may lead the person to learn about era, the region, etc. There is much knowledge to be uncovered under the dirt and that knowledge is more valuable than a pocket knife. And, if the person does not want to learn, then they can take it to another cache and trade it. Either way, it is a trade up as far as I am concerned.

Again, this is my perspective. Yours may be different. How do I feel when I come across an older cache that has degraded to a bunch of golf balls and broken McToys? Well, I feel sorry that the cache owner cannot afford to upkeep his cache (or in some cases, have the time to maintain all the caches they own) and sorry for the cache players who just don't get it.

Sh** happens. If anybody thinks that there will never be bad press, they are only kidding themselves. Insofar as the “press” is concerned, we’ll get good and bad. We get a lot more good than bad.

Bad Press?? Well... if everyone who does not like the bad press that happens writes the reports in a civilized manner and request that things like this get less spin or that the reporter do more research, then maybe they will. Everytime I see an article like this, I write the reporter. Most are receptive and a few have even offered to explore the game more (in a positive fashion). Have I seen any positive articles produced from this? Cannot say I have, but I have not seen another poorly spun article from them on the game.

  18. ...it reinstated with a twist. I would like to see it static/realtime. For example, in the LOG record, store the found count for that user. And from the user profile, grab the total found and place them as a ratio. This should be be easy enuff to do since you are querying both records anyway, right?
