  1. I'm looking at the GC planning map and it's not showing me any of the premium member caches at all in my local area. There's a large number of them here, not just one or two as in some locations. I'd like to create my own planning tool using pocket queries offline. Does anyone know of software that is mac compatible that will do that?
  2. Does anyone know of a website that will take a gpx file and map the coords showing the minimum cache distance as a bubble? I want to see where there is potential for placing caches in a reasonably heavy area. I'm sure I saw a site once that did this but I can't find it. Alternatively can anyone point me to directions to get google earth to do this?
  3. Could you tell us what you did so that others might learn from you? A friend of mine has just picked up a geko 201 and we're having a devil of a time working it out
  4. I know it's quite soon, but I'm organising an ANZAC day event cache for 25th April 2009 I've got events in Dublin and Seattle and Melbourne lined up - now we need one in NZ plus any other countries that can do this. Anyone interested in organising the NZ meet?
  5. I personally have no problem with people dipping EXCEPT when they dip into caches that the bug could not possibly ever be in. For instance, I have a couple of nanos out there that have a few TBs logged into them. There's no way a TB can fit into a nano and as a result I've had a few people make comments about the fact that the TBs being on the cache info page led them to be looking for something much bigger than what they eventually did or did not find. I'd like to see either a caching miles function for premium users like a TB map or to see TB drops disabled for certain caches (perhaps at the owners discretion) but only those that are micros or nanos
  6. I just need to vent. One of my caches is a nano, it's even a member only nano - yet people seem to have decided that it's a good cache to cycle travel bugs through for mileage. This is one of my pet hates and I do wish that there was some way of being able to disable travel bugs for a cache. Why do I not like this? Well for 1 it means that in search results my cache comes up as having had travel bugs in it, which means that people looking for a nano will skip over it and those looking for a nice big cache large enough for a TB so that they can drop it honestly will be disappointed when they finally find it. OK, rant over for now...
  7. So what you're proposing instead is to spam caches logs with your fake TB because you can't be bothered doing some maths or marking coordinates on a map yourself. What's the point of having a TB logo on a cache in that case?
  8. I'd like to propose a new premium member feature - a second (or even third) location attached to your account. While mine is generally set up with my home location being my home, from time to time I like to see what is closest to another location - such as my office, or when I'm planning a holiday, my hotel. I know that I could use pocket queries, but esp for my office, it's a bit of a waste of server load as I don't necessarily want to download it. And another suggestion for the find a cache page - would be great to have a list of cities where the coordinates are already factored in - save the bother of loading up the google maps, selecting a likely looking cache and then searching based on it or looking up coordinates for a given city. This should be something fairly simple to add in. As for the exact location to use, not really that important, whatever the given "centre" is on say google would do the job.
  9. I'm seeing various options for Derry / Londonderry - can I suggest that we resolve that issue first Sorry, couldn't resist.... It strikes me that if the areas are too granular then people will be doing searches for countries instead in order to get a wide enough local. This is to aid, not be your local search.
  10. That may be the case, but who's to say that you won't be able to do this? There's a few examples of physical caches not being maintained, I think it's a little presumptuous to assume that a virtual cannot be maintained - for a start you dn;t know the person's network of friends/family. Secondly a well thought out virtual is highly unlikely to change - think of the various historical monuments. If they ever moved it would make the news around the world. Personally I like a combination of both and I'd much rather a good virtual than a poor physical. Many get around it by placing a film canister with a roll of paper as a log, how is this better than a virtual that requires the finder to answer questions you can only answer by being there? And don't get me started on the number of caches that contain a tube of superglue, an old beaten up toy car and a couple of dirty hairclips as "treasure"
  11. Perhaps we would be happier if we understood what the new system is planning to include....
  12. First a suggestion - it would be much much easier to discuss GSAK i it had it's own subforum rather than just a giant thread... how do we organise that? Second, a question - is it possible when I export to MapSource to have the different cache types refer to a mapsource category? I tend to like to do either multis or virtuals etc and am forever exporting just a group of one or the other and would like to be able to differentiate.
  13. I'm wanting to export to HTML but as a single output file with all the caches alphabetically, how do I do this?
  14. Ahhh... the penny drops... many thanks
  15. In the list of caches available, just above the size indicator is two numbers in brackets. At the top of the page the colum is headed (D/T) - what does that mean?????
