  2. The same thing happened to me. I searched all over the box and couldn't find it. I put in a ticket with Magellan as well. I'll be very annoyed if I don't get it. Glad to know I'm not the only one though! Glad I'm not the only one. I'm waiting to hear from them as well, hopefully they just have them on order or something. This is the reply I got: Hi, Thank you for contacting Magellan Technical Support. I apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing right now. For us to verify the details, please email us back with the order number of the unit so we can check it on our system and properly address the issue. We will wait for your reply. 3. If you open up the device like a drive (by double clicking on it from my computer) and then open the Geocaches folder you will see the GPX files where the caches currently on the GC reside. The largest file is the 999 popular caches that are included. You can outright delete them or move them off the GC and save them for later. As for getting many caches loaded onto it at a time, the easiest way to do that is Pocket Queries which requires a Premium Membership. Hope that helps! Thank you! I am starting to get the hang of it, but being technically challenged, it has been a bit of a struggle.

  5. How do you turn on your notifications so I know when new caches pop up around me? Just got a premium membership and trying to get the most out of it..
  6. Maybe I am just dumb, but I wasn't able to find a download of VantagePoint on the magellan website. http://www.magellangps.com/products/map.as...amp;PRODID=1903 Click the download button and you are all set. Lifesaver!

  8. Hey Sue, Got my own GC in the mail today. I am still trying to figure out how to get the most out of it. Was this device supposed to come with the VantagePoint software because it did not. They also forgot to include my Monkey Geocoin, which I am annoyed about. I want to delete all of the preloaded caches and upload my own. so far I have only been able to upload one at a time, even though I check all of the boxes on a page. Sigh. One day I will stop being so technically challenged.
  9. Yes, I found the one in Rancho Santa Margarita and am planning on going to it. I was just hoping to geocache sooner! Thanks for the tip.
  10. IMHO - I think this would be a very good unit for a newbie. Easy to operate and it has a section in it that has geocaching FAQs, lists the different types of caches, explains difficulty and terrain, and probably a few other things I can't remember off the top of my head. It is simple to operate yet accurate and supports paperless caching (you may very well want to become a premium member and enjoy the Pocket Queries to make full use of this feature). It doesn't have the bells and whistles other more expensive units have but is still a good quality device. Thanks for the reply! I have been researching so much because I really don't want to get the wrong device and ruin my geocaching experience. I need something that is easy to use, paperless, and accurate to get me right on top of the cache. I think I'm going to go with this one, I just hope I don't outgrow it too fast or become envious of other people's GPS devices when I'm out there! Though usually for me personally, the more tech involved with the device the less likely I am to spend the time trying to figure it out.
  11. I'm new to Geocaching and don't even have a device yet. I'm completely technically challenged and thought it might be nice to go out geocaching with someone here in Orange County, CA for my first time before I make a huge purchase. Anyone in Orange County geocaching sometime soon and don't mind a tag along?
  12. I am new to geocaching and thinking this might be a good purchase for me as my first GPS device. Thoughts for first time users?
  13. How do you find out where these events are held?
  14. That actually sounds really nice. I just assumed that a GPS device would work in your car, but is that not the case? I've been researching GPS devices for a few days now, and I am extremely confused. Some of them say you need to buy the maps to download into the device? Isn't that what you're purchasing when you buy the device?
  15. Thanks for the reply! I probably don't want something that is touch screen. They tend to frustrate me. I'll check out the other two that you suggested though!
  16. Hello! I just discovered Geocaching and am extremely excited to get started, but I don't have a GPS device. I have a good job so I can buy a nice device, but I don't want a bunch of bells and whistles that I'll never use. So far I have discovered the Magellan eXplorist GC and the GPS devices that come in the geocaching store. I want the device to be paperless and able to hold and store a lot of geocaches at a time. I'm not sure what else I should be looking for in a device. What do you find most helpful when you are geocaching? Which devices are the most reliable when on the ground? Thanks for your help!
