  1. I suspect that most ziploc bags are not designed to be opened and closed hundreds of times over the course of months... The seams seem to weaken eventually and just give with little to no effort. Z.
  2. Penny and Kona, Thank you. Please take as long as you need to to get the coin moving... I always used the travel Bug "two week" guideline as a guide, but it depends on what else is going on here too. I have a couple that I have to release this weekend come what may as I've had them too long. With any luck I can help them on their way a bit... (I was hoping to be travelling east soon which is why I haven't released one of them yet) Thanks again for everything. Z.
  3. OMD! I think I'm really going to love seeing this Arctic Wolf version! Sounds amazing!
  4. Well, it's just off of a public right of way, and the property owner admits that frequently (through no fault of their own) there are no "no trespassing" signs. I can see why the cache owner might have thought that it was an acceptable place to place it and that permission wasn't needed. Suzie, if you can get in touch with the cache owner and explain this to them they should be perfectly willing to move their cache. If you are willing to give permission to place this on your property then the cache owner will probably be more than willing to work with you to place it in a location that is acceptable to you. Z.
  5. "Page guidelines" are basically ALRs. However, some of them are carefully written to ensure that you remain legal/don't cause damage/whatever. The issue here is not that the people broke the page guidelines, but that they broke the law. Sure, trespass in a park at night isn't such a big deal compared to murder, but they still broke the law in order to take part in this game. Personally I would delete a log that says "I broke the law but I got this cache"... But you are also right that FTF is not something to get hung up on. I have never had an FTF, but that doesn't mean that i haven't enjoyed myself finding caches. Z.
  6. Don't you need to get permission from the property owner to place the cache? Once you have that, and have rated it correctly I don't see an issue. I suspect that the sticking point is going to be getting permission. Z.
  7. Apparently I can vote from my wife's computer, and my work computer from the same IP address on the same day. (Presumably it uses cookies for the first few votes and then uses IP addresses after a certain number to stop people gaming the system too much. Z.
  8. Like the orange/black one so well, I had to go and order the purple/black one, too. I can't wait to see them in person :-).
  9. I thought that perhaps a wheatstone bridge and some relays might be an interesting way to achieve this. But then what do I know. Z.
  10. Indeed, when two of the three numbers that have been obscured are in the Degrees portion of the co-ordinates then the one that is in the thousandths of minutes is not really important... However that was an easy puzzle cache. I hope that the difficulty on that linked cache was not due to the puzzle difficulty. My favourite puzzle cache so far has to be The Kakuro Puzzle Cache where getting the starting co ordinates is just the first part... It's a multi stage puzzle cache, and I had to phone for a hint on the final stage. I was in the right area but the cammo was just TOO good. Z.
  11. And how do you decide what makes a good Cache? I was in Lincoln City caching twice recently. The first cache I found there was in an unexpected container, and was great... The second was in the same container... the second trip (caching wasn't the reason for going to Lincoln City either time) I parked the car, looked at the GPS, walked over to the cache (same hide) and found it instantly. I did the rest of them on foot for that run, and the walk was very enjoyable... But the monotony of the unusual hides made them very predictable. I'm not saying that there was anything wrong with how they were rated, just that the first one was a "cooler" cache than the rest because I wasn't quite expecting the hide. But after that the subsequent ones became even easier to find. Z.
  12. I would still do that. I discover coins that I find even if I don't take them, and I post notes on coins that aren't there to say that they weren't there at the time of my visit. That doesn't mean that they won't turn up later having been picked up earlier and not logged yet. In fact, it seems to me that your comment about the Discover option is a perfectly good reason to keep Discover on any coin whether it is collectible or not. And sure, you can drop and retrieve a coin instead of "visit" but it isn't as convenient. It would be nice if Visit sent the log to the trackable owner at the same time (I don't know if it does or not). Z.
  13. I'm sure that it is entirely the ignorance of these modern cachers, and not something else... Given that sometimes coins do appear in caches where they weren't supposed to be, this can happen for a variety of reasons. Personally, I have done one of several things depending on circumstances... I have posted a note on a coin to say that I have it, I got it from X cache and I will pick it up when it is logged that it was dropped. I have also grabbed it from the person who had it, dipped it in the cache that I found it in and deleted the cache logs. I would suggest asking the person who has it to dip it in the cache where they found it. Z.
  14. I would think that placing a cache, dedicated to her memory in a spot that has some significance for both you and her would be a better option. If you want something to travel in her memory then a travel bug might be a better idea (it isn't as collectible as a coin)... Even better do both. You can think of her whenever you go and maintain your cache. You can follow the travels of the bug. I hope that some of this helps, Z.
  15. After you've grabbed the coin, you can drop it in the cache you found it in and pick it up again. Then you can delete the drop log so that it looks right. Z.
  16. While Glenmart are legendary... I think you're missing one important Oregon cacher... DaveUlmer, probably the most legendary cacher with sixteen finds and six hides. Z.
  17. Thank you, I guess my point is in part that initially I will be paying it forward with a single coin and that while you are doing a great job of keeping track of the requests, it does not seem right that you should have to keep track of the incoming requests for ever, even if they are being fulfilled by random other people. I'm not sure what the best way of doing this would be, but I feel that there must be a way. Z.
  18. So, this might seem like an odd question, but once your 20 are gone who will keep track of more adoption requests? Presumably there will be another 20 people paying it forward at some point, and... I'm not suggesting that you should keep track of this for everyone, just curious as to how it might work. Z. (already looking for a suitable coin to pay it forward with)
  19. Preordered--I hope. Got error message from PHD page, but payment confirmation from PP. Ordered (I hope!) the orange and black version. LOVE it!
  20. Hi, We would love to adopt a coin... We should be able to pay it forward before too long... Z.
  21. Assuming that the cache was placed with permission... The security guard either knows about the cache or will find out about it at some point. (when lots of people look in the same spot for it he might realise there is something there). So why not tell him what you are doing. Worst case the cache wasn't placed with permission and will be removed, best case, a convert. Z.
  22. Umm, I must be doing it wrong then. I thought it was about people hiding a log somewhere and me (and anyone else who wants to) trying to find it. Kind of like a crossword puzzle. One person sets the puzzle, lots of people solve it. Some of them are easy, others aren't. They are all fun. But if you want competitive then... "I've found more caches than Dave Ulmer!" Z.
