  1. There is one in Michigan that is big. I have not seen it yet, but it is on my list. It is: Big Boy GCXTPX from Team Desert Eagle http://img.geocaching.com/cache/d831d177-7...ea1410fd723.jpg
  2. I can think of 2 reasons that some caches may contain "junk". 1. one mans trash is another mans treasure. 2. what does trade up mean? Here is my opion from a similar thread: I think some of the problems with the contents of caches is the understanding of "trade up" . People look at it from different view points. They hear or read about a red paper clip being traded up for more valueable items and ending up with a house. If I trade a penny for a dime, I could have traded up (more for me) instead of traded down (less for the other trader). Maybe some people think that trading up is similar to being up at a casino, you have more when you leave than you did when you got there. My mother always told me to return what you borrowed in the same or better condition, and to leave things the same or nicer than you found them. I know I leave most caches better stocked after I have found them, but I don't trade every time. Maybe this should be made crystal clear so there is no room for confusion.

  5. I set up a similar idea for a holiday party at a campgroud. I knew I would only have about 7 people / families involved. I put the cards in make shift envelopes - regular paper doubled up and folded around the cards, and stapled shut. Evey team had to bing back 5 envelopes, number 1 - 5, unopened. At the end of the day, everyone opened up the enevelopes and the best hand won. We had a couple sneaky teams sitting together, and rumor has it they combined cards and split the winnings. No big prizes involeved, but just enough for bragging rites.
  6. How about this "BIG BOY" from :TEAM DESERT EAGLE http://img.geocaching.com/cache/d831d177-7...ea1410fd723.jpg
  7. I have not found a lot of caches, but There have been a few with neat sig items that I traded my sig item for. I see many log complaints about the 'quality' of the cache contents going down after a number of finds. I think the trade up or trade even guideline is not followed to often. I think some people think trade up means trade a quarter for a dollar, meaning they are up. I think the contents is a bouns to keep the kids interested, and the search is the bonus for the adults.
  8. I leave a sig item that I make, a $1.00 flashlite with a logo on it. I usually only trade when I find something I like (bungee cord, small sig compass, etc.). I do carry a few kid related things, and small lapel pins for the smaller caches.
  9. I had the same question when I started. I thought of a sig. card, basically a home made (on the computer) business card. I did not think this was for trading, so I wanted an item. I wanted something related to my account name, but could not find anything. I ended up getting small flashlites, and fixed my logo / name on them. You can see it, and all sorts of other dignature items at the following link: Michigan geocachers org. http://sigitemdb.mi-geocaching.org/
  10. I am not sure what's going on. The price of regular gas a few weeks ago went from $1.97 to $2.29. A week later it droped to $2.19, and not it's $2.43. It never seems to go down as much as it goes up. As a side note, I don't think the taxes flucuate that much, I think they are a flat rate per gallon. I also know that the price per gallon may be cheaper here in Lansing Michigan than overseas, but if you look at the 10 - 20 percent price swing, it is shocking. I consider gas a necessity, like water, electricity and natural gas (for home heating). These don't flucuate that much, and you can't really do without.
  11. For me it is not so much the cost, as the unexplained price swings. It seems that there is a 10 - 20 percent price swing for no apparent reason. It usually goes up, but then does not go back down at the same rate. I know the price of oil per barrel has some effect, but I find it hard to believe that the gas I bought today came from that barrel of oil that the price just went up on. I would think there would be a week or two lag between international oil prices and what we pay at the pump. This will effect how I cache, and will try to do them on my way somewhere, not making a special trip.
  12. Being new to this geocaching, I have a question. What is the normal trade item when you take a coin? It would seem that some of the items people find end up in other caches, but some are meant to be collected. Should you have a stack of coins to leave for others to find, or just collect them by trading other 'neat' stuff?
  13. I was wonder the same thing. I thought it would be neat to leave some item that was personalized. I also think it would be neat to create a new cache full of 'treasure' coins to be traded.
