  1. Some of the areas I am looking at in Google earth have very high resolution. La Crosse, WI is great for example. However, when I go about 6 miles west of there, Hokah, MN for examlpe, it gets really blurry. Is it a safe bet that they were just imaging the river and haven't been back to get the areas further inland? Or is there some way to get these areas in Hi-res?
  2. Here is the one I found: http://www.geocaching.com/mark/details.aspx?PID=ON0260ON0260
  3. I found my second Benchmark today, but the coordinates are off by about 216ft. Does this correction need to be reported to the NGS?
  4. I also use the screen protectors. They work great. I have had my 60c for about 2 months now and at first I read some old posts about the protectors and was not so sure. But believe me, for the $12 or so for the protectors and shipping, I highly recoomend them. I got mine from Stong Engineering. They have a Garmin GPS section. Scroll down to see the 60C/60CS. Here is a link, hope it still works if it wraps. Stong Engineering 60c/60cs protectors
  5. When I tried it, all of the images were blurry when I tried to get in close. My machine is plenty powerful, and I have a 128mb video card. Any ideas?
  6. What was the solution.... I am having that problem. How to you set the length in Mapsource?
  7. When on the screen showing the line, select Menu. Then select 'Stop Navigating' Does that do it???
  8. Amazon.com now has some in stock ( minus the one I just bought). If you sign up for thier VISA card you get $30 off. $77 total w/ free shipping!!!!
  9. When you first turn on the unit and the 'Aquiring satellites' page comes up. press MENU. Select 'Multicolor"
  10. 1) I recently upgraded to the 3.60 version of the firmware. I am not 100% sure, but since then the 'Calculating' message appears when the GPS is finding a route for me. For example: If I am in city A and find city B and then select 'go to', the GPS used to display on the top 1/3 of the screen a little car going from point to point as it calculated the route. Now a simple window pops up in the middle of the display and shows a percentage bar and says ‘Calculating’. Any one else notice this change when going to 3.60? 2) When I go to Setup - Map - Map Setup Information, it shows the map Americas Marine Point Basemap, Jan 2001. Is this the default basemap including major highways, etc... or is this a marine (water) map that should be turned off? Am I missing something here? Thanks.
  11. I new to the GPS scene, I have had my GPS for about 2 weeks now and am learning alot from this site. Here is my question this time: When I turn on my 60C, I get the 'Acquiring satellites' page. Do the different satellite numbers and colors mean something in particular?
  12. The unit is on it's way to the Garmin Factory now to get fixed...... I hope it come back soon, I like to autoroute may way around town!!!!! (Even though I know where I am going with out it)
  13. Follow up...... I posted the question to Garmin Tech Support and here is the response I got: "I would be happy to help you with this. They are designed for both, however mainly to keep water out."
  14. The unit is rated to be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes and survive. I would hope that in order to make sure it was completely waterproof that I would NOT need to have an antenna, usb cable, and serial cable hooked up simultaneously. Otherwise I will have 3 long cables dangling from my GPS when I walk out in the woods. That being said, I think they ARE for keeping water out, if not would you be comfortable taking them off and then putting it under water? I don't think so. Of course, If you can provide documentation that says otherwise, I will agree with you.
  15. So what if I have no male (ie: nothing plugged into the GPS). Would that mean it is not waterproof at that point?
  16. You are correct, they did NOT go for it. They apparently have very skilled screw driver operators. Oh well...... it stinks to be without it for a couple weeks, but in the long run it will be nice to know I don't have to worry about a few rain drops here and there.
  17. My new GPSMAP 60c has 2 rubber plugs on the back to keep water out of the usb/antenna/and power hook-ups. One of the plugs is nice and soft, black rubber, but the other is dried out and slightly grey in color. It doesn't stick in as well as the other and I don't think it would keep water out very well. Garmin will fix under warranty if I ship it to them, and it will be gone for about 2 weeks. Should I have this fixed, or just live with it. Ideas???
  18. I am new to the whole GPS scene... I have had my Garmin 60c for about 4 days now. Why does everyone seem to use a 3rd party software for waypoint and geocache management? Will the Garmin Mapsouce software that came with my unit do the same thing. All I really want to do is save geocaches, and then save groups of waypoints in catagories like, hunting waypoints, fishing waypoints, and camping way points. Any suggestions...tips....
