  2. I think I know what the problem is, since there is another broken line on the compass. To solve it: While you are on the compass page, press the ENTER button (the one below the zoom buttons). This will show a menu, based on what you are seeing, the menu should show "bearing pointer" click this. This will change the compass to the bearing pointer (pointer without broken line, suitable for geocaching). I hope this helps for you!
  3. Hi, in the UK openstreetmap has quite good coverage; you can see what is mapped in your area here: openstreetmap.org These maps, for the UK, can be downloaded here: http://talkytoaster.info/ukmaps.htm And for the rest of the world, they can be downloaded here: garmin.openstreetmap.nl
  4. For Catalunya you can also find a quite detailed map here: garmin OSM And this tutorial shows how to get those maps on your GPS.
  5. Not heading to Beijing, but would love to know how to get the OSM maps onto my 60csx. Can you point me to an online resource on how to do this? Quite easy: go here: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ And select the tiles you want, and follow this tutorial: http://www.nwcaching.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2513 I've ot very good experiences using these maps. But I know the quality varies a lot from region to region.
  6. I think for that price you should be able to get a garmin dakota 10, on which you can put free maps from Denmark from garmin.openstreetmap.nl easily. These openstreetmaps are free and for Denmark they are very good, I have used them myself when I lived there. The garmin dakota 10 is an easy gps and does everything one needs for geocaching (and of course a lot more). In my opinion most of the stuff in the starters kit isn't necessary to start geocaching. Hope this helps.
  7. One of mine hasn't been found yet: My link I'm the only geocacher here, and the few tourists that come seem to go for the traditional caches, not a mystery. I'm hoping that one day some other local geocacher appears and will solve it
  8. Yep, this is normal. You need to log both that you found the cache and a "needs maintanance"-log.
  9. My experiences from the countries where I've lived: Denmark/Danish: Tak for cachen Belgium/Dutch: Bedankt voor de cache France/French: Merci pour le cache or MPLC
