  1. IngoKnito appears to be doing this now. He logged a tag that has never been released, and looking through his recent finds (all dated the same day, and with the same log) he even logged a tag that had gone missing. Any way to report these people?

  2. I know I'm coming in late to this discussion, and I decided not to read every post, but I have to wonder - all of those people who think this is such a bad/horrible/worthless idea, and don't understand how or why anybody might want the suggested changes - why are you even in this discussion? Because you like arguing about things? Because you like to think you're better than somebody else? This was a suggestion to change the way PQ's are made available. Not to eliminate the way it's currently done, but to offer different alternatives. If you don't like the suggestion, leave the conversation. Nobody is making you stay here and read this, and if you're not interested you're certainly not contributing anything.

It's things like this that remind me why I'm not a regular in the forums.

  3. I found a cache in the worlds smallest deasert (Carcross Yukon) Called "Geo-Cache #4". It was not on the internet either.

Did you ever figure out what cache this was?

    FOUND!

Thanks to Mr. Park-Ranger for this discovery:

I've contacted them and they tell me that it is indeed one of their caches (and I suspect #4 mentioned above is as well). They indicated that they plan on adding these caches to geocaching.com

Thanks to EVERYBODY for the help on this one. It's been an adventure!

  4.

TheWhiteUrkel...The BCGA forums are not just for members.

hurleyanne...You're correct that membership in the association (which is different than joining the forums) is only open to residents of BC. The BCGA represents BC geocachers so the charter is written so that the people with a vote in the organzation are BC geocachers.

esquimaux... I have posted a note in the BCGA forums about these TB's - hopefully this will get resolve soon. We want to hear all about it, ok?

Thanks for your help, and everybody's help. I'm still following up with a couple of locals by email who may have more info, it's just slow going.

Thanks again to all, and I'll post any answers I get here so everybody can get some resolution on this one! =)

  5. While on vacation in Alaska/Canada we accidentally came across a cache but have been unable to find a listing for it on any of the caching websites. The cache was located in a large turnout off of Highway 2 at the border between British Columbia and the Yukon Territories. It was a large rubbermaid type container hidden under a bush just at the edge of the turnout. We believe it was called "Geo-Cache #8".

We would appreciate any information anybody can provide regarding this cache. We left some travel bugs there and are concerned about them.

  6. Thanks to all of you who've responded and researched this issue. Just to add a little more background, I have checked geocaching.com, along with TerraCaching, NaviCache, and Buxley's mapping page, all coming up empty. I had not thought about a letterbox (as it was named "geo-cache") so I really appreciate the effort on that part. I like the idea of an abandoned vacation cache, but others had signed the log, so it was clearly in play at some point. I've also written to 3 local cachers for assistance, but have yet to hear back from any of them. It also occurs to me that this could be the final to a multi or mystery cache, but there's only one of those within 50 miles and it doesn't appear to lead here, so I am doubting the likelihood of that option.

We found the cache while on a tour off of a cruise ship. We just happened to mention geocaching to the tour guide while at this location, and he told us he had been shown a cache at this location by a previous cacher. After a quick search we found the cache in excellent condition, though it seems it had been a few months since the last find.

In light of this whole ordeal, yes, there are several things we would have done differently. Of the 5 cachers there, none of us thought to get the coords. Nobody wrote down or even thought to look at who the cache owner was or if there was a GC number. No pictures were taken of the cache that would help us track this down. We were so excited to unexpectedly find a cache out here on our jeep adventure that we didn't think about these things. We just assumed the cache would be listed. We'll do things differently next time.

Oh, and for anybody considering a road trip, the travel bugs we left were frira Erq Wrrcf...

  8. Would love to get a couple before the lawsuit takes off!

Never happen. It's clearly a parody and no copyrighted trademarks are being used anywhere on the coin. Absolut is trademarked. Absolute is not :anibad: And that face in the label is GeoNap not Lenin/Stalin or whoever the dude who is really used on the Absolut label.

    8. The following trademarks and all related logos and designs used herein are owned by V&S and/or its affiliates, subsidiaries, parent or related companies:

    ABSOLUT bottle design

Truth of the matter is... it's a bottle... no more... no less... No one has a trademark on a bottle. It's a geocoin too... it's not exactly as if we're saying that we're making vodka. You can draw whatever inferrences you want, but bottom line is that it's not a copyright infringement plain and simple. Case closed. :)

Actually, V&S etc do have a trademark on the bottle design, and a court would likely find in their favor. If it really ever got that far. But what they don't know won't hurt them. And, of course, I bought mine. :)

  9. The wap interface has been updated to include travel bug logging. Additionally, you can skip the TB and GC prefix to get to a cache page. It isn't documented, but once we get all the kinks worked out we'll put a "how to" page on the Geocaching.com web site.

How is it that I've been a member for nearly a year and I'm only now discovering this functionality? And that only by accident? Where is the "how to" page on the website?

    thanks,

    esquimaux
