  1. I had the same thing happen twice. First time, the Etrex was near a leaky bottle of DEET, and I think the fumes make a pretty good glue solvent. That one went back to EMS and they swapped it for new.

Happened again, this time I think it was just the heat. I pulled everything apart and cleaned it up. Then put on a strip of double-sided indoor/outdoor carpet tape, trimed to fit with an exacto and wrapped the bumper back on. Been holding up very nicely all summer.

  2. You should definitely try to find some caches in Alaska, but be careful of wildlife (i.e. BEARS). We were in AK recently and we left a cache that is a one-time-only cache (it's in a place where not many people go, so we want the person who finds it to remove it permanently). The cache is just a travel bug in a Nalgene/Lexan bottle. The bottle is a gift for the finder, and will hold up well in extreme weather. We hope the travel bug will find its way home to us. We thought a one-time-only cache would be good since we wouldn't be around to maintain it. Have fun in AK!

  3. Hey Sketch - that's a great point about other ways to get to the cache. It would be great if Toothy came out on a dog sled! I know he'll probably be up there for a while, but hopefully he'll eventually find a way out and get to see the world.
