  1. There are some people that are just highly competitive and it makes their day to think that they beat everyone else at something. I will admit that we sent out to try and get a couple of FTFs but we didn't make it. Didn't up set me at all and we joked that we would have to get moving a lot faster for the next one. If there are wham-o FTF prizes I would probably be one of those types that could get obsessed with trying to be first. The fun of it is just finding the cache, and after going to Yuma with the sadist hiders out there, that feeling has been given new meaning. I guess if you want to be FTF, you'll need to get a wireless laptop and refresh the pages every 15 mins or so and be ready to roll.
  2. Why have to open another screen at all? Adding the check boxes like the "Seek Geocaches" pages have would make it easy to select the ones you want and at the bottom of the page you'd get the "Download Waypoints" button. Why one type of seek page has it and not another didn't make sense to me after paying for a subscription.
  3. Lunatic = "S" in the SouperTeam Kid cannot sleep right when there is a full moon. The rest of us...totally sane. I have spent about $3000 on my sewing machines and various accessories to do the things I want. Spent about $400 on caching stuff. Much more fun to go caching and like someone else said, we can do it as a family, we can do it anywhere we go in the country and we get to find fun stuff and see very cool places. Not lunatics.
  4. ditto that one...they usually have 2 sizes in smaller quantities
  5. I just signed up as a subscriber so I could use the Cache Maps feature. I am going to Yuma tomorrow and wanted to find caches close to I-8 that I could quickly hit with three other people in the car. I love how I can pan across the map and follow the route I'm going to take. Problem is, if I use the IDENTIFY option, it lists the caches but there is no way to "select" them and download a waypoint file like you can on the "Seek Geocache" pages. The ability to find caches this way would be an improvement that anyone could figure out how to do. It's worth the subscription fee and time for me to be able to do this. Is this possible?
  6. We found one just 2 weeks into starting GCing. We were really surprised to find it and were excited for the next one to find it after we placed it in a new cache. We're hoping to see some more but yeah...people hoarding them kinda stinks.
  7. ROTFLMAO! Spoke too soon? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markwell
  8. Well, the Girl Scout leader in me just assumed that SWAG was similar to our SWAPs and thought it meant "Share With Another Geocacher" ROTFLMAO!!
  9. I watched that ASL video for the "gay" and "lesbian" signs and the "geocacher" sign is not the same. They may look similar in a still photo but ASL is animated and someone that is hearing impared and uses ASL would probably not take it that you are gay.
  10. Well, depending on the city they are for, they could be worth a $1 even if they are empty. LOL! Some areas charge for the card so you can put your rides on them. But yes, it is lame and so is the other stuff you mentioned. I was feeling bad about considering putting McToys in there but in some caches they would be a major improvement. Someone was excited about a working McVideoGame. I have tons of those things. I think they are fun LOL
  11. We left a couple of lame items in our first two micros because we were ill prepared for the size of the cache. Our second find was an altoids tin and we had nothing that small to trade with. The kids couldn't be contained and just "had to have" something out of it or we would have TNLN. I did go back and replace our lame item with 3 better ones to make up for it. But being unprepared for the size of the container can cause people to put lame items in it. We now have a bag with small stuff for micros and bigger stuff for other containers.
  12. I vote for Chillibusher - "My greatest fear is that when I'm long gone, my wife will sell my caching gear for what I told her I paid for it!"
  13. This has been a fun and interesting thread. I've got a few to use for reference when someone mentions how messy mine is again.
  14. That looks like a lot of fun! I love hot air ballooning. How fun would it be to combine both hobbies? I like it.
  15. I just bought one that is in very good condition for $4. Went to the local surplus "store" to get it. My girls were dressed in princess dresses and we looked horribly out of place. The guys in the office got a big smile when we walked in and said "What can we do for you Your Highnesses?" I replied that we were there to outfit the royal army. LOL! The can we got is not dented or scratched and the paint is still very green. The lid fits tight and it's just waiting to find a good location to go live.
  16. ROTF!!! I was thinking the same thing. Don't go!! I came here to learn more about this fun hobby. I'm not going to learn the good stuff from newbies like myself. Please...don't!
  17. We went out yesterday and I put S in her Brownie vest and we told a couple of people that we were working on a new Orienteering Try-It. LOL! It worked. Just hope we don't run into some other scouts that ask for more info on the new badge.
  18. Oh man...I'm feeling it right now myself. Just checked on one that we were LTF the other night and the owner went to replace the damp long and he can't find it. I feel bad.
  19. Can you find out who posted the signs and ask for permission? I wouldn't cross into an area that had a sign on it. But then I'm the type of person that will always get busted for doing the wrong thing so I don't take my chances. Someone else might walk there 100 times but my first might be my last. LOL!
  20. I'd consider myself a newbie to this sport/forum but there are a few things that people should do to "protect" themselves when venturing into a new territory. Read the FAQs, read the Newbie guides, etc. I spent a couple of weeks reading this site before I ever posted anything or got a GPS. I knew what a "Markwell" in a thread meant before I was dealt one. I did searches on things that I knew I would need to know. People just don't help themselves at all and then they get hurt feelings when they ask a question that is covered by FAQs and "READ FIRST" threads. I moderate several forums and it happens no matter what the subject matter is.
  21. We go out as a family. The girls are 7 and 3. They are definately into SWAG and get upset when we find micros that just have a log book. LOL!
  22. We were on Kauai in June '03 and will be going back this May. I already have a map of all the Kauai caches printed out, they are loaded into my GPS and I'm working on printing out the pages. It is my goal to hit as many as possible. We'll be staying on Poipu and there are several within walking distance of our hotel. I can't wait to go! I'll watch for TBs while we're there too. If anyone has some that need to go that way, see if you can get your bugs to Tucson and I'll take them out. BTW...the zipcode on Kauai is 96756
  23. We're in the Tucson area as well. Sunday is about the only day we can get out to go caching.
