  1. Geocaching.com just reinstated the found logs of 21 cachers that didn't find the cache or sign the cache log. So if you can't find a 4.5/4.5. Throw down a log and complain to the community manager when your log gets deleted. GC29Z6D
  2. It just doesn't get much better than two-wheel caching. Moto-caching or bicycle caching. Some of my most memorable finds have been on two-wheels. Great thread.
  3. Hmm it looks like a prolific cache finder didn't get the prolific cache hiders memo. Someone better inform the prolific finder about this thread. "It took about an hour walking around in the heat, PI and high grass. Solved the puzzle the day it came out but waited for some of the newbies to get a FTF. Since I was out and about today decided to go give it a try. Found the best place to park and went to GZ. Only thing is, it wasn't quite at GZ. So I concentrated my search in the brambles and PI. Seems lots of folks frequent this area as there are several paths. Had to call the owner about a problem but as yet he hasn't called me back. So under those circumstances, I'll claim FTF at 1330. Very nice puzzle. I don't solve many so it was nice to get this one. Don't get many FTFs either so this one is greatly appreciated. Thanks"
  4. I'm sorry I forgot you are the victim here. You really feel my post was a flame? They are nothing compared to the personal e-mail attacks I have seen from you. Whatever. Go slink back into your hole. You and your buddies go find someone else to pick on. Slink back to my hole? I thought this was an open public discussion? I have buddies are you sure they are not cronies? Since you don't like my input I am a troll or flamer? So basically anyone that posts something you don't like is a troll or flamer and needs to go back into their hole?

  6. With my 60Cx, I select a custom POI. Then select "Save". Which converts the POI to a geocache. I use custom icons. I then select "Go To". Then select "Found" after finding the geocache. Hope this helps. But that doesn't change the POI to indicate that's it's already been found. I think the OP wants some way to know when he's looking at a list of POIs, that he's not going back to one he's already found. Ahhh yes that conundrum.... I haven't figured out a workaround for that problem...

  8. Not sure if you have any Costco stores near you but if you do.. Costco sells a 28 piece set called "snapware". I counted the set and there were 30 some pieces. Weird. the containers are exactly like lock & lock and appear to be very sturdy. I have two painted and ready to go. In my limited experience, nothing beats a real lock-n-lock. I've found plenty of knock offs with broken lids or bad seals, but all the real ones have held their contents well. I find them at Wal-Mart. The lock-n-lock do seem well built. The snapware knock offs also seem to have about the same thickness and ears. I have both brands hidden and out there cooking. I'm curious to see how both hold up. I think you are right that the ears and seals will fail first. The best part about the plastic-ware is that is comes in so many handy shapes and sizes.

  10. Okiebryan from what I understand talking with other cachers you are pretty darn good at hiding caches. So what is the problem? I guess you will have to travel and find some more neat places for hides. I'll try to help you out with those unfound caches. I've been wanting to make a trip up to your area for some time. If it makes you happy keep hiding them!
  11. Just wait till the FTF restricted caches get posted. You can only have this many or less FTF's to log FTF on this cache. Or you can't have this letter in your geo-nic to log FTF on this cache. Now that is the funny stuff.
  12. Knock yourself out. As long as the playing field is fair go for it. The people that will whine will be the ones that don't do this don't do that or can't get off the couch. I believe I've heard people say the same thing in our area about "hoggin FTF's". Maybe the complainers should get out and "hog" I mean get some FTF's?
  13. We've had strange issues in our area where micro caches have been taken from their locations and placed in larger caches several miles away. I still haven't figured that one out. People do really strange things.
  14. I am a LEO, and geocacher, in a rural county in Ohio. Copper theft is not a "bonehead excuse." We have a large amount of that around here, and yes, they will take it off a live pole!! I'm sure copper theft is a real problem in your area. It may be in the Dallas area but how much copper can one get out of live 50KV 4 ton transformer before it knocks a thief into orbit? The other laughable thought was the notion I was going to get a transformer that weighed twice as much as my Honda into my Honda. My point is the police in this area use the copper theft excuse and you looked suspicious for stops even if you are standing a parking lot or driving down the road not even in a park. Really how much copper can one get in a Honda for petes sake? I'm sure I'd rather talk with the Ohio police rather than the rude police I've met in my area. My favorite police quote was from the Coppell police explaining a resident had seen us standing under a lamp post a night in a dark park. Cracked me up. Maybe he meant the rest of the park was dark not under the lamp post?
  15. Only three police stops caching in the last two months. The funniest one was when Dallas, TX PD told me to go cache in another city Mesquite, TX. The ironic part was I had been detained and patted down in Mesquite, TX a few weeks prior to that stop.. My favorite bonehead excuse for a police stop is we thought you were stealing copper from light poles.
  16. I have an indoor cache. There are several caches in our area that are indoors. One of my first finds was indoors. Typically the coords take you to the building and there is usually a hint in the cache page or description which directs you where to search. The Garmin 60Cx gets pretty good reception indoors as long as there is no metal in the roof or walls..
  17. Unactivated geocoins, travel bug tags and of course Andrew Jackson is always always nice to meet at an FTF.
  18. 08 Honda Element aka "The Toaster" No carpet. Sweep and wipe with a wet cloth. Done.
  19. This was one of my favorite CB finds. It was in the green belt area off of a LARGE CB parking lot. Far from the CB store. Close enough to stop for a quick bite to eat, a regular cache and swap travel bugs. Sad to see it was muggled after 296 finds. GCHBRC
  20. My favorite hint was under the rock. The cache title is Rocky Top. It is on a ridge line. Rocks the size of washer/dryers all the way up to house sized rocks. I didn't find it too amusing in the middle of the night, in the snow in 20 degree weather. But I think the vague hint made me more determined to find te cache. The smart alec hints are irritating. I usually just pffft and move on.
  21. I have all of City Nav v8 NA and Hawaii loaded on a 60Cx with ordinary 2Gb Sandisk microSD and have not noticed any performance problems. I don't think you want NT version maps - new technology? for the x series as NT maps are compressed and meant to be used with the automotive units like the 2600/2700 and Nuvi series? Someone correct me if I am wrong.
  22. Several of my easiest caches were used in the DRR and I was pretty excited about it until reading this thread. Not signing the log is just lame. The follow up post with the excuses is lamer.
  23. I remember seeing the cache page in question when it posted and thinking how ambigous it was. I was confused on what was for trades and what was not what the FTF prize was. I think 9Key's post is out of frustraion of percieved unfair trades which occur frequently in this area. I have felt the same frustration over what I have seen as poor or unfair trade practices and downright cache pirate theivery. Everyone needs to play their own game as per their own conscience. I also remember when I first saw this thread post weeks ago and refrained from posting. So now I have posted and have this off my chest. My advice to everyone don't let people/events/perception upset you and bring you down around the DFW area or it will cut into your caching fun. Congrats on the FTF and welcome to the sport. Have fun and cache on!
