Das ist einer der wenigen Punkte die ich hier wirklich nachvollziehen kann und sogar unterstützen würde, das meiste Andere ist doch irgendwie dein subjektives empfinden und geht über DEINE Vorlieben, was halt ein bisschen schwierig ist bei nem Community-Ding wie GC, wo sich die Verschiedensten Leute beteiligen und vor allem, wo man sich ja seltenst trifft und sich abstimmen kann. Nutzt ja auch nicht jeder das Forum hier, beispielsweise. Ich mein, da können wir halt noch ne million Jahre diskutieren was du magst und was die anderen machen ... ehrlich, ich kann viele von deinen "Beschwerden" absolut nicht nachvollziehen ... sorry. Ist auch nicht böse gemeint.

Auch hierzu möchte ich mal anmerken, dass es mannigfaltige Gründe geben mag, warum ein Cache-Owner einen Cache als PM-only posted. Ich nehme mal an, dass viele leute hauptsächlich davon ausgehen, dass wenn sie einen Cache als PM-only online stellen, dieser Cache etwas ruhiger und mehr geschützt ist. Mehr geschützt vor all den leuten, die mal eben auf die Seite gehen, sich das "neue Hobby" anschauen weil sie mal wieder im Fernsehen oder sonst wo drüber gestolpert sind und einfach mal mit dem GPS-Handy gucken wollen was das so ist. Hat man seinen Cache jetzt als Owner akribisch vorbereitet oder liegt der cache an einer wunderschönen stelle in der Natur, wo man vielleicht nicht gleich eine "Cacherautobahn" anlegen will, dann kann ich es durchaus nachvollziehen, einen PM-only Cache anzulegen, oder nicht? Man wird schließlich schon davon ausgehen können, dass PMs das hobby etwas mehr durchblicken und vielleicht sensiebler vorgehen, als die große masse, die nur nach nem kostenlosen zeitvertreib aus ist. Es ist ja gar keine Abwertung oder Generalisierung, natürlich gibt es auch genügend langjährige, verantwortungsvolle BMs, aber in der Gruppe der BMs finden sich eben im normalfall die Chaoten, die halt kein Geld für bisschen Quatsch ausgeben wollen. Und um noch mal einen anderen Aspekt anzuführen: es gibt kein generelles Recht auf Caches, jeder Cache hat einen Owner und dieser soll doch auch entscheiden können, ob er eine gewisse Gruppe mit einbeziehen will oder nicht. Schließlich BEZAHLEN einige ja auch für ihr Hobby und nehmen es durchaus ernst, ergo haben diese doch das volle Recht an ihren Caches, und nicht die Community, die sich eben auch aus NICHT ZAHLENDEN Mitgliedern zusammensetzt. Willkommen im Kapitalismus ... Und es liegt einfach in der Natur der Sache, dass wenn eine Gruppe zahlt und die andere nicht, man in den meisten Fällen davon ausgehen kann, dass die, die für etwas Geld hin legen und es finanziell unterstützen vielleicht ein bisschen mehr davon halten, als die, die diesen Service NICHT unterstützen. Und noch mal, Ich sage nicht, dass jedes Basis-Mitglied ein Schmarotzer ist und ein unverantwortlicher Schnuppercacher. Aber diese Leute findet man eben eher unter den BMs als unter den Leuten die sich die Mühe machen sich anzumelden und nen Betrag dafür zu berappen. Aber auch da gibt es Ausnahmen. Und wem das ganze hin und her sowieso zu bunt wird und wer durch die Komerzialisierung sowieso den Untergang schon heraufziehen sieht, der soll doch zu OPENCACHING gehen ... Alles frei und um sonst. JEDER HAT DIE WAHL ...

Ah, guys, haven´t been online for ages here now, but great to read all those posts! "Unfortunately" I am from Germany, so I can´t hide the caches either ... the rough estimates of the coordinates would be fine by me just to kind of create a "GC-Monument" for the event. There doesn´t seem to be one already by the way, so ... chances are still good to get this special opportunity.

I think this game is basically for your own experience, going outside, searching and finding. That whole other aspect of smileys on your web profile, statistics, listings, souveniers and all that electronic side show crap should not influence the over all experience too much, does it? At least that´s my point of view. I couldn´t care less about people ignoring the fun and real life aspect of this game just to sit in front of their computer and cheat to get some smiling pixels on their screen. I cache to get out and about, to me that´s what this all is about and I really don´t bother about the virtual part of it. Why should I? There´s so much competition in our lives going on at work and everywhere, I don´t need that in my spare time as well. Why do things have to get so serious all the time ...

Danke Leute, das hat mir schon mal sehr weiter geholfen. Und nach dem Bewertungssystem das GC.com anbietet, das ja auch nicht 100% alle gegebenheiten abdeckt wäre bei mir eben ein D4/T1,5 raus gekommen, aber da dachte ich mir schon, dass das so eigentlich keinen Sinn macht nach meinem Verständnis. Ich kenn ja auch die videos von T5 caches, wo man kletterausrüstung braucht, von da her war ich eben verwundert und hab hier noch mal nachgefragt, aber jetzt bin ich ja schlauer und tendiere eher zu einer D1,5/T4 für meinen cache. Danke für die Denkanstöße!

Also in den drei jahren die ich jetzt dabei bin hab ich noch NIE nen Cache größer als ca. 600ml gefunden. Könnte mir gar nicht vorstellen, was man mit ner 20 (!!!) liter box anstellen soll ... Und naja, ich kann mir allerdings gut vorstellen, was manche vögel da dann zurück lassen. Verlockend fand ich das irgendwie schon immer, mal so was großes zu verstecken, aber ganz ehrlich, ich geh halt auch meistens mit dem Fahrrad cachen und da hab ich dann halt kleinere Sachen im Rucksack und will keine Bücher zum tauschen mitschleppen. Das kann ich mir jetzt nicht so recht vorstellen, dass leute da so große sachen mit nehmen, dass man eine 20l box brächte. Interessant wärs aber alle mal, ja ... Nur im großen und ganzan, wenn man das tauschverhalten in den kleinen dosen schon sieht ... ich würds glaub ich nicht mehr drauf anlegen, zu erfahren was in richtig großen behältern geht ... am ende liegt da dann noch der alte hamster drin oder es wird ein unerwünschter wurf katzen "verschenkt" ... bei manchen leuchten weiß man ja nie ...

Ich geh auch oft mal in so 1€ läden und kauf dann mal ne handvoll Quartett-Karten und krimskrams, worüber vor allem kinder sich dann auch mal freuen dürften. Anfangs hab ich auch gedacht, oh, ich MUSS jetzt was tauschen und total super sachen rein legen, aber ist doch quatsch. Wenn nur müll in ner dose ist, dann räum ich die auch mal aus, irgendwelche alten "gutscheine" oder weiß der geier braucht ja echt kein mensch. Und dann pack ich was von meinen goodies rein. Ich nehme mal stark an, dass das tauschen wirklich nur noch familien mit kids machen. für erwachsene ist doch echt kaum was interessantes dabei. Ausser mal n TB zum weitertragen. Das ganze Tauschthema darf man glaube ich nicht so eng sehen. Dosen saubermachen, weils halt immer irgend welche idi...onen gibt die halt müll für andere zurück lassen oder ihr hirn nicht einschalten, was denn nun sinn macht im freien liegen zu lassen. Und ab und an halt mal selber nen euro investieren und was nettes in umlauf bringen. Es ist halt eher ein geben anstatt nehmen. Aber wenn sich jeder nur noch beschwert und keiner mehr was macht, dann gehts halt eh nur noch bergab und das muss ja auch nicht sein ... Ich hab z.b. auch immer taschen- oder küchentücher dabei um feuchtigkeit raus zu putzen und ne mülltüte für verschimmelten sch...ss. Is halt so. Muss sich ja nicht immer nur der owner um ne dose kümmern. Ist doch ein "Gemeinschaftsspiel" ...

Also, ich denke mal, wenn mich die Kommerzialisierung einer Amerikanischen Firma (GC.com) stört, dann kann ich doch genauso gut zu OPENCACHING.DE wechseln und da sind vielleicht auch nicht sooo viele caches gelistet, da hab ich jetzt nicht den super überblick. Dass in (über) 10 JAHREN n arsch voll neuer Leute dazu kommt ist jetzt ja auch keine Sache, über die man sich groß wundern müsste und dass diese neuen leute das ganze dann nicht "so real" betreiben wie die "originalen" mitglieder, das liegt ja auch auf der Hand, ausser die "originalen" kümmern sich aufopfernd um die neuen und bilden aktiv die community mit aus. Sich immer nur im hintergrund zu halten, die arme zu verschränken und rumzunörgeln wenn die dinge dann aus dem ruder laufen und die "neuen" nicht wissen, wie sie sich aufzuführen haben, ist ja immer einfach ... dann aber halt zu spät ... Wo ist denn jetzt bitte das problem, wenn ich mal nen tag wandern gehn und nur ein zwei caches finden will? Dann lass ich eben die Powerstreak links liegen, da weiß man ja dass die dosen nicht unbedingt super gemacht sind. Regt euch doch nicht auf, lauft einfach an den offensichtlichen blöd-dosen vorbei. Das ganze Potential von Geocaching, das GRUNDPRINZIP ist einfach viel zu großartig und viel zu vielfältig anwendbar, als dass es "nur" ne community für naturliebhaber und wanderer bleiben würde. Das liegt doch auch schon in der Natur des ganzen. Aber das ändert doch nix daran, dass man wandern gehn kann, ohne gleich 10 dosen finden zu MÜSSEN. Und erzähl mir nicht, dass 2002 JEDE (von den spärlich gesähten dosen die es wohl damals nur gegeben haben muss) super durchdacht und mega geil versteckt war ... und wenn es nicht darum geht, wenn man nur mal nen schnellen unaufwändigen fund haben will, dann um so besser, genau das ist doch die großzahl heute, was muss man denn dann großartig "schöne caches" auswählen, wenn man wandern geht? Dann such ich mir doch nur zwei drei raus, die am weg liegen und fertig. Ich verseh´s grad nicht. Bitte, nicht falsch verstehen, ich seh mich eigentlich auch als jemand, dem das Hobby am Herzen liegt, ich brauch jetzt keine mega-streak mit minimum einem fund pro tag für die nächsten fünf jahre, ich muss keine 20 funde am tag loggen, sondern ich genieße auch, raus zu gehen, auf mein Fahrrad zu steigen und in der natur versteckte dosen zu suchen. Ich hasse stadt-cachen, das nervt mich voll. Leider liegen in meiner Gegend aber kaum dosen und ich hab schon 60km radtouren hinter mir um mal wieder dem hobby fröhnen zu können. Ich freu mich immer, wenn hier mal was neues dazu kommt und wenn das versteck dann auch mal bisschen kreativer ist als einfach nur "am baumstumpf unterm stein". Ich finds halt langweilig, wenn ich zwei kilometer mit dem rad berg auf fahr, und oben seh ich dann schon aus 10 m entfernung wo das ding "versteckt" ist. Klar, der Weg gehört zum ziel, und ich cache auch UM AUFS RAD ZU STEIGEN und nicht nur der smileys willen, aber ich will beides, ich will dann auch bisschen suchen und vielleicht mal mit ner kreativen Idee überrascht werden. Allerdings ist GC eben ein Hobby von INDIVIDUEN, jeder hat es anders kennen gelernt, jeder betreibt es anders, da kann ich mich doch nicht darüber sooo aufregen, dass die dinge nicht immer so laufen, wie ich mir das gerne vorstelle, oder wie das die ersten 100 leute vor 10 jahren gemacht haben. KEIN VERGLEICH ... Sorry ... Und dass es überall in jeder gruppe mal a-löcher gibt die von tuten und blasen keine ahnung haben, davon lass ich mir das dann doch auch nicht generell vermiesen ...

Hallo Leute, bin gerade dabei ein neues Listing anzulegen und hab jetzt echt bisschen Probleme mit der richtigen Bewertung. Kurze Beschreibung: Die Box ist letztendlich auf einem Baum in ca. 2m höhe, der Stamm ist ziemlich schräg und ich hab an dem Baum ein Seil als Kletterhilfe angebracht, so dass man mehr oder weniger rauflaufen kann. So in der art wie man sich von ner Felswand abseilen und dabei mitlaufen würde ... nicht soo schwer aber halt auch nicht ganz ohne. An sonsten ist GZ nur paar meter von nem betonplatten-feldweg entfernt. Mein Problem ist jetzt wegen dem Klettereinsatz. Sollte ich eine etwas erhöhte Schwierigkeitsbewertung schreiben, dafür aber leichtes Gelände oder zählt das auf den Baum klettern eher als schwieriges Gelände, dafür ist aber die allgemeine Schwierigkeit sehr niedrig, da man ja schon von weitem das Seil am Baum sieht und somit eigentlich gleich weiß, wo die Dose versteckt ist? Ich weiß, ist jetzt nicht sooo wichtig, aber ich wollte einfach mal nachfragen. Danke für eure Antworten!

Watching the Stratos Project of a world known energy drinks company (I don´t want to advertise here, so I don´t name them) one idea came to my mind. If he succeedes his incredible jump from around 120.000 ft, someone should place a cache on the ground at the exact coordinates where Felix will jump of his capsule and start his insane freefall! It´s incredible and if you can later stand on that place where a man jumped from 120.000 ft above your head, this would be really awesome I think. Anyone from around Roswell, NM interested?

ah, good point, never thought about that it would spoil multis ... but true ... also never seen this site. I´ll have a look. but I think it would be more handy if it was implemented directly in the gc profile, not on an extra website. but thanks for your reply anyways!

Heya fellow cachers! I recently had the idea for a new feature for the personal profile page. I was on a monster 15 miles / 23 kilometer walking tour with two (guest cacher)friends yesterday, and I thought it would be a nice feature, if you could upload your recorded track on your profile page to show it to people. Doing so would be a great way to suggest routes to fellow cachers or even just show off what you did and encourage other people to maybe do the same or similar tours. I´m thinking of a page linked in your personal profile where you initially would see a list of all the tracks / tours uploaded by the user and marked as links, with date and maybe short notice of the region/city/country, where it has been done. Then you would click on one of these links and a new window would open with a big map on top, showing the full overview of the track and all the caches along the way. On the right side next to the map there could be for example on the very top a collection of Attributes, the cacher can choose to indicate his chosen means of transportation (e.g. hike, >10miles or bike for example) and maybe others to indicate dangers/obstacles/ammenities he encountered (e.g. water near by, attention ticks etc.) Underneath the Attributes the uploader may type in a starting and a finish point, maybe by name and/or coordinates. Maybe there could be an option like a plus button to add more waypoints, if there are some interesting places along the track like sights or views or other cities etc. Then I would add a text entry field, where the uploader can share the story behind the trip. Of course there would have to be a option to upload or link pictures from the trip as well ... maybe even geo referenced, so they could be shown as icon on the map along the track as well ... And last but not least underneath it all the comment section, where visitors can leave theyr remarks and questions for the uploader. I´ll see if I can photoshop a montage of how I would imagine the site, for better understanding ... OFFTOPIC: Really? This is so ... SAD ... What about the fact that going out on a search is the important part of it for itself. No matter who´s first. Sounds like people to me, who want the caches by any means, e. g. plowing cross-country on a four wheeler through a National Park just for the goal to be THE FIRST at a dadgum ammo box. C´mon ... For those people, I´d extra give my new coordinates to a few people before posting them online, just as some sort of "cure" for theyr craziness ... ONTOPIC: Just find it, and don´t loose a word about your brother in law. It´s not someone elses business ...

Why do people always want to turn everything in a "Trendy-Everybody-Must-Have-Seen-And-Done-Thing"? Can´t you just keep a secret? C´mon, it´s way more fun to cache inbetween all those muggles insteadt of turning EVERYBODY into a Cacher. Where would be the fun then? I like doing things that have at least a little breeze of individuality/originality/ uncommonness left. Or should we be asking e. g. Nike to make a major campaign about geocaching, starting all people to run out in the wild with theyr iPhones in hands and iPods in ears, stamping everything to the ground thats in theyr way from one to the next chache? Please, JUST DON`T DO IT! At least once ...

A hat does help. I wear one. Also I wear (if possible) long pants and a shirt with long sleaves, but still had four ticks last Tuesday and one last Thursday (Thursday it was rainy weather, so less problems with ticks). During sunny weather I also use a spray (DEET). After caching a good shower and a good body check. The best things to do IMO. I live in Germany and the tics here are said to have all these diseases they can spread. Everywhere. And people, me included, still go out. What should one do. You can´t stay at home all the time because there´s something possibly threatening out there. Just wrap your sox over your trouser legs when you hit the bushes, so the little buggers can´t crawl up your legs. Anyways, they will not infect you as soon as they bite. Just don´t put glue or something on them to get them out. If they choke, they will puke theyr goods out which will infect you. Pull them out with a tic-tool without twisting or so. Just like you would do with a splinter. There´s nothing bad about them in the end. Just don´t let them scent your fear! To me, spiders are worse a billion times (and there are no poisonous ones at all living in germany!) ...

C´mon people, this thread is ridiculous! Dear Coldgears, maybe you should contact the guys from tom tom (the car navigation specialist) to invent a car navigation game. Geocaching was invented as a outdoor sport activity I´d say. "Out in the wild" there are no roads that lead you to a cache, you just go cross-country. IF THERE IS A OBSTACLE OF ANY KIND, IT´S YOUR PROBLEM. Can´t see any issue here. It´s a fact, that the cache is 3 miles away. How you may get there is your problem. Maybe somebody owns a kajak. To him it wouldn´t be a problem crossing the river to get the cache. So it always depends on the personal view/ability.

yeah, like many others before, I just don´t like the fact that people leave trash n crap in every box. But still, I like to find something interesting so if I find something cool, I´ll leave something else from my collection too. Some of these pieces I collect, some others I just put in the next cache where I´ll find something of interest. And yes, sometimes I clean my own caches from the worst stuff, I can´t think that even kids would like it. Shame on those who spread such rubbish!

That´s a good point. Maybe you can come up with a great idea for a new hideout or a special container. That would bring some "fresh air" into the game, if the old cache isn´t THAT special ...

I know and I can understand what you´re talking about, but IMO the aspect of first of all being a part of the travel history of an item meets best with TBs. A coin is something different and should stay a coin. A plastic plate with the number of a coin engraved "degrades" to a Travelbug, IMO. Shure, being part of the travelhistory is the certain purpose behind that all, but a Coin is something explicit to me, where the original item is inseprable connected to the fact of tackability. Everything else is a "plain" TB. Again, what´s the sense in participating in the travelhistory of an Item, that obviously never left the hand of the owner and isn´t traveling? If one cares so much about his valuable property, why he not just buys a less valuable TB to enjoy the Travel aspect on that and keep his geocoins unactivated in his collection. I don´t want the icon of a coin shown to everybody on my profile wich I sadly never have had in my hands. Also if a coin gets lost. Why sending something else out to continue a travel some other item has made? I also wouldn´t want to have a taxidermy of my dog. It would be not even half the fun. And everybody knows, how expensive a dog is. I slightly think this whole question is a question of philosopy. And as we all know, some philospys we´re debating 3000 jears about now. I really don´t want to change the world here, I´m just talking about my opinion on things. Everybody shall do what he pleases to do, no doubt. I´m just asking, why some things are the way they are ...

Doesn´t effect me at all, I even don´t care, I even don´t live on the same continent. I just post my few on things here. I´m just participating here because I had a few discussions recently about people who may log a find online without having been at the cache at all. Seemed to be a pretty serious disrespect of the rules and effecting qite much people here. So I just added one on one ... As I can´t imagine that any body could go out caching every single day during 3 years without getting ill or being prevented for any other reason I would think, and that´s only my personal non offensive sight of things, that someone will cheat somehow at some point to not let the streak cut. Especially on day 1038 or so ... On the other hand, in some areas in the US it seems that there are plenty of park and grab caches in relativly small areas so one maybe could cache five years one cache every day without even leaving his car more than a stone throw. But as I said bevor, just imagine getting ill on day 1038 of this streak working towards that cache. Just a stone throw away from finish line. What would you do? Start another three year odyssey to get it? Again, I wouldn´t care about it, but maybe someone who want´s that cache desperatly, too ... To be honest, I´d be dead bored if I had to cache 1095 days in a row. Sounds more like a job or a curse to me ... But, well, that´s just another of my opinions, I like to share on a platform for sharing opionions ... I´m talking about those streak caches. I thought, this 1095-day-streak was the topic here ... Thoughts on it can be found above. AND IT´S JUST AN OPINION ...

This is nuts. Those caches are driving people to cheat IMO. Not saying that people MUST cheat to accomplish it, but there will always be some who want it by any means ...

It´s my sisters dog. I love him, he´s so funny sometimes. When i took this picture of him with his tounge hanging out I instantly had the idea of combining it with one of my selfshots. And what can I say, it matched perfectly ... I´ve heard of those local currencys on the news but I never seen/used some. But maybe, according to the Euro / Dollar crisis coming up, they will get more important and spread out ... Or we´ll need to get back to barter trade soon ... Then I´d collect some Euros / Dollars, too ... Just to show my kids in future the most evil invention, mankind ever made: Money ... But that´s another story. I keep my eyes open, and if I stumble upon some of these, I´ll remember you and get some. Promised! How crazy is that, collecting real geocoins out of caches and repalcing them by copys! There´s nothing in this world that´s impossible to happen ... How sneaky can one be?!

Since I know from several other actual topics how much people are into physical logs at GZ, I´d probably log a write note first and tell the whole story about the find like you did here. As most of the usual find logs are some sort of "NICKNAME DATE TFTC" your log will be outstanding and interesting to the CO. I as the CO therefore would give you permission to log the find, becouse you actualy found my cachecontainer AND told me an interesting story about it. And we both would be happy. Since I read on another thread that most of the COs throw theyr full logbooks to the bin, I even more don´t understand why people make such a thing out of the physical log, ´couse it seems to me, that the logbook isn´t any thing of interest at all in the end ... But everyone like he pleases ...

Thanks for your post, I´ve read the whole thing and i appreciate what you´re talking about and first and foremost the way you wrote it. Reading all the posts made me think, and in the end, that´s why we all take part in discussions in this myriad of forums around the internet. Before I started this thread I already thought about it. Now hearing about it from many people changed my fiew a bit towards greater understanding. On the other hand I still beliefe in continuing to release originals, as I was saying earlier, to keep some sort of value in the game. We need and create precious things for our lifes all the time. But we should also be aware, that they can be lost and if, we should be able to let them go without eternal regret. Sadly there will always be people who disrespect foreign property or feelings. But because of these few ones, everybody else shouldn´t stop giving good things to the world. And that´s not only about geocoins. (Wow, that sentence consumed my whole idealism for the next few month maybe ... but no joke, I mean it!) I´d be very curious about finding a well made "real or physical or youknowwhatimean copy" of a coin. Until now, I haven´t had this luck ... Again, I´d like to apologize if I hurt someones feelings or acted a bit to offensiv. That was never the intention. I hope this controversy goes on a littel bit more. It´s a every time topic and may be a guideline for other idealistic beginners like me. Tanks to everyone sharing her/his thoughts! p.s.
