  1. I have used many gps apps on the iphone. I pretty much keep my Lowrance Endura in my pack for a back up. The best one I have found so far is "gpskit". It has everything I want. Mainly the ability to download map tiles and access them later offline. You can also create custom maps by using a server address to download maps from. They use to have a lite version out if any of you want to help troubleshoot. HOWEVER,I am having a lot of trouble downloading tiles with Google Sat and Terrain maps. The Sat map wont display at all when zoomed out, and will not longer download tiles while zoomed in. The terrain map displays fine, but wont download tiles while zoomed in either. All of the other maps dont seem to be doing this. I have the USGS address in my custom maps and it seems to work great. I am pretty certain that it has something to do with the website url I am using for the Sat and terrain. I have reinstalled gpskit and everything else I can think of. I have tried using ArcGIS map servers and many other server addresses for custom maps in the app, but I cant seem to get the format right.Any help here? The address for the USGS map link I download from is below along with the Sat address that I cant get working right. Anyone know about this sorta thing? USGS: This site works fine with the iphone app. http://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/USA_Topo_Maps/MapServer/tile/#Z#/#Y#/#X# Google SAT map that doesnt download or load tiles correctly http://khm#SN#.google.com/kh/v=65&x=#X#&y=#Y#&z=#Z#&s=#GL# This is a wiki article that talks about it a lot, but I couldnt get a couple of the links to work. http://gc-livepedia.de/wiki/Map_servers#Google_Maps
  2. My unit seems to take forever to acquire satellite reception (4 mins). It is especially slow when mounted on my cup holder in my truck. I know its not directly in the open, but I have heard of other people's working much better it seems. I don't think I have ever had my bars full. Usually it is at 2-3 bars. After owning other gps units, that in my opinion were inferior in quality to the endura, I am thinking that something is not working quite right. However, I dont see anything I can change on it. Are boot times of 1 minute normal? I turn mine on and it sits there for at least one minute before it does anything. Then another 3-4 before it acquires satellites.
  3. Sorry I forgot to include that I was running the latest firmware - 1.21. Does 1.4 address the issues that I was having? Unless I am reading your post wrong, I think you believe version 1.21 is the latest firmware. And unless I am wrong, 1.4 is actually the newest version of firmware. Ok..that is hard to read. I think the latest version of firmware that you need is 1.4. The 1.21 version is actually a couple releases behind.
  4. TexasRepublic - please remind me which unit you have. If it is the Safari the preloaded POI's will be geographic/topographic in nature rather than commercial POI's. The Sierra POI's and the POI's that are loaded on the Advance detailed mapping cards will have more of the commercial POI's, like the Bass Pro you are looking for. Let me know if this does not answer your questions. Sorry Endura Expert, its been a while since I have had time to get on here. Yes. I have the safari. I believe I purchased the upgraded mapping card. The card that allows you to do turn by turn? Have that one. I tried searching for Bass pro using keyword and category (fishing supplies). Never came up. Is there another card? Would it matter if I had my map detail settings to not display POIs on the screen? I would assume you could still search for them even if they arent displayed on the screen. Another question. It may just be a website mistake, but the gpscity link below lists my Endura Safari as "discontinued by the manufacturer". Say this isnt so.. http://www.gpscity.com/lowrance-endura-safari.html
  5. My points of interest seem to be very scarce. I have tried to find Bass Pro Shop and it wasn't under Fishing supplies?? I have found similar problems with other major stores/POI. Am I doing something wrong that isnt bringing up these major shopping locations? Any advice appreciated. My other question seems like an obvious feature, so I am thinking that I am just missing it somewhere. If you are playing music through your MP3 player and then navigate back to the map while driving, can you not stop/skip/pause the music without going back through menu-tools-mp3player?
  6. Hey Native, Can you please discuss your prior statement below a little more? "Then use the Mapselect imagery mapping to "boost" your Acuterra mapping detail with e-topo, BLM and satellite imagery. Both types of maps really rock." I have some of the e-topo maps from mapselect, and agree that they are quite helpful. However, I am also interested in the Acuterra maps as well. How exactly do you "boost" the Acuterra with the e-topo from mapselect? Are you meaning just switch between the two to fill in any gaps of data, or is there a way to view them which would serve better? I understand that you can display POI details within your basemap onto your imagery map by using hybrid mode, but cannot figure out a way you would use mapselect e-topo to "boost" your accuterra maps. Can you even display them at the same time? I thought you would only be able to display one at a time since they are both a imagery map. Using hybrid mode in the area (SW Texas) I am at would not "boost" my imagery maps at all I dont believe. Other than the basic contour lines, no additional data is available on my base map in that area. Its far in the sticks. ================= Another side question. I notice that my e-topo maps only become visible until I get a certain zoom level. Is there a way to set them What PC software program is most user friendly in managing your waypoints, trails, etc. in the Endura?
  7. Are you always required to have the turn by turn micros sd card in the endura while using it for driving directions, or may you somehow download the contents to the Endura's hard drive and place other music sd cards in it while driving? Is there a way to control the MP3 player sound? Like base, treble, etc?
  8. Has anyone seen the Acuterra Mapping cards on sale anywhere?
  9. I want to make a special effort to compliment Lowrance on the spectacular service in customer support that I recently received. No other GPS product that I have owned in the past has put forth this level of effort. A few weeks ago, I purchased one of Lowrance’s new handheld GPS units, the Endura Safari. My support issue began after I downloaded a topographic map from Mapselect’s website. Even though I seemed to be following the instructions correctly, the topographic maps were not being properly displayed on my unit. Hoping to troubleshoot the problem myself, I became a member of the Groundspeak Forums. After performing many of the listed solutions without any success, I posted a forum reply outlining my own unique set of facts to my problem. The quick response and quality of support that I received from “EnduraExpert” went far beyond anything I was expecting. Not only did EnduraExpert immediately reply to my posting with several potential solutions to resolve my issue, he also sent me a forum email offering additional phone support in case the issue was not yet resolved. It is hard to find that level of service anywhere, especially when it is free of charge. Later that same day, I received a telephone call from EnduraExpert. We quickly determined that the issue was with my registered account with Navico, and not the unit itself. Having a technical support matter resolved so quickly for once was like a breath of fresh air. However, it did not end there. To show Lowrance’s appreciation towards my purchase, EnduraExpert also provided me with 5 free maps of my choice from MapSelect. Regardless of what line of GPS products you prefer, resolving a customer support issue in less than four hours and being provided with free maps to show your value as a customer wins every time in my book. Lowrance has found itself an excellent employee in EnduraExpert, and will continue to have my business while they provide this level of customer satisfaction.

  11. Correct me if I am wrong, but from what I understand there are basically 2 choices of topography mapping that you can purchase for the Enduras. Topo maps from mapselect.com Topo maps put out by accutera?? Well I guess 3 if you can use mapselect's BLM mapping of the western U.S. Anyone use both types of topo maps? Which one do you think is better? Acuterra's maps are about $100 right? Are they worth it compared to the topos put out by mapselect?
  12. I have already heard from Endura Expert and have the issue resolved I believe. Great support.
  13. Reading this forum is like a breath of fresh air. Another forum I tried asking advice on was downright rude. I received my Endura Safari about a week ago and performed the three updates. I have been searching the internet trying to resolve this same issue. I have not taken the steps to correct mine yet, but I am sure I know what the issue is now. Where exactly did you see the instructions for labeling folders as rastermaps, etc? I have several small questions that I have been trying to figure out, but dont seem to be located anywhere in the manual or internet. Is this the proper thread to post them, or should I start a new one for misc. questions?
