  1. Personally I feel if you want to leave a coupon in a Geocache make it a coupon you purchased for something free at a business other then your own (eg i have left FTF coupon for national name ice cream store, local theater, free drink at a major fast food place) Keep profit out of it make a kid jump with excitement, i love the image of that
  2. Has anyone seen this email or post and what is your thoughts here are the links http://www.gpsworld.com/gnss-system/news/data-shows-disastrous-gps-jamming-fcc-approved-broadcaster-11029 http://freegeographytools.com/2011/how-the-fcc-plans-to-destroy-gps-a-simple-explanation eyeinthesky
  3. Just a thought about Geocaching now that hunting season has started in many areas of the country. Wearing Blaze Orange while out Geocaching will not scare away any Geocaches you may be seeking but it will keep you safer during your searches. Be considerate, if there are vehicles (pick-ups) parked in the area you want to seek a Geocache there may be hunters in the area & may not need extra people crawling through the bushes. Just my thoughts
  4. Interesting topic with strong passions. I don't have even one hundred finds yet even though I have been Geocaching for several years so maybe I am not qualified to comment but here goes. I enjoy all types of caches even the little no-see-ums but I much prefer the sizes with trading items inside. I have placed 4 caches in my area and all are kid (family) oriented. I put some thought into what location would be fun possibly educational and needs to walking to get to. Then I think about what type of container wold hide the best in that location. Once I have a plan I get and test the coordinates and then ask a Geocache friend to locate it for me. Maybe we as Geocachers should hold a Saturday Geocache workshop at a local park or something have examples on hand talk up our hobby and help others to learn the process including listing correct information. I didn't have this type of guidence being one of only a few but I have learn a lot from researching & reading what others have done including all posts on this topic. Thanks for sharing your thoughts thanks for reading mine.
  5. First I seen it. I did not realize it was from last year, sorry if I reopened a bad topic. eits
  6. Has anyone seen this yet? A friend email this to me. Story: Geocacher prompts terrorist fears. He hid bucket under bridge BOISE, Idaho -- Scot Tintsman says he never had any troubles with the law until his girlfriend introduced him to what became his all-consuming passion: the satellite-navigated treasure hunt called geocaching. "She got me hooked," said the 33-year-old Idaho man, who faces criminal charges for hanging a green bucket beneath a concrete bridge on a major state highway last September. 7. Could someone / would someone set up a survey. Yimes design flows and does justice to a USA icon. I vote Yimes (with or without the ring). eyeinthesky
  8. I have not found every cache site and that makes those I do find more rewarding and enjoyable. Also here is a thought........... maybe some people don't / won't log a no find. Sounds like a challenge to go back and succeed next time. I looked for one the last week that was hung inside a chainlink fence post that was missing. Possibly someone didnot get it hung and it dropped to the bottom, who knows. Cache on it only gets more exciting as we invent new more challenging hides. Good Luck. EITS
  9. My next cache container to be set out will be a 5x8x2.5 inch water tight metal first aid kit box. Thought I would share that idea. EITS
  10. Any news from or about ND G&F policy for Geocaching?
  11. Your welcome...if you need anything see above post
  12. I believe this to be the person that I contacted about placing a cache site and he informed me that there was already one at this area. Conservation Biologist: Bruce Kreft, Bismarck -- 701-328-6224 http://www.state.nd.us/gnf/deptchrt.html#conservcommo For that site check out this cache site [Mort's Place by Norkota (GCHZZ3)North Dakota] If I can assist you in any other way I am a local call and drive away from this office and person. I would be glad to help. Thanks for being involved and helping us Geocachers.
  13. I did contact someone at the NDG&F and they have allowed a cache site on a wildlife managment area. I don't remember the persons name but I could find it again I think. EITS
  14. Not sure where I should post this so I am trying here. I would like to know is there a common or genaric note that can be put in a cache explaining what it and Geocaching is and also with travel bugs to explain what they are and why. I could print my own but if there is one that is widely used I would use it to keep things uniform. Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide. EITS
  15. congratulations tands in SC. although we are new to the geocache sport, i think the hides will get better and better. We have not hiden one yet but if we want to make it a worthy adventure we will need to do our homework first. now i am going out in search of another cache.
  16. That is great. I think the Honda Rucus would be a great geocache transportation when camping is part of the adventure.
  17. This is a comparison thought of mine. Years ago my family did a lot of fishing in North Dakota and when they stocked salmon in the system many people quit fishing the lake because of all the salmon anglers. What they did not think about was there was suddenly less interest and pressure on the other fish and that made for more room and enjoyment for the rest of us. We are new to Geocaching and excited to get out in the nature of things with less pressure on the areas we will want to explore. Not everyone can afford or is interested in the work / effort part of many hobbis, I am just grateful that I can search for the exciting cache sites. Thanks for the opportunity to post. EITS
  18. because we are going to enjoy this activity together my wife will be the gps mount but we will be purchasing a handle bar mount this spring for days when we each ride of go alone.
  19. We are motorcycle enthusiasts and plan to do a lot of geocache searching while out on our motorcycle adventures. If it we can be outdoors then life is good. We now have another reason to be out in the enviroment. I am curious to know how many other people are combining motorcycles and satellites into their outdoor activities. EITS
  20. Hi I am fairly new to the geocaching experience but into GPS/GIS for half dozen years at my job. For me Ftf is not a big deal and I think a cache will get better as other cachers find it. Caching will be only as good as I want it to be. Just my thought. EITS
