Thanks once again for the info. We'll be spending 3 days on Kona side, 2 days in Volcano and 2 days in the Hilo area. We are really looking forward to visiting the Big Island.

Another question, what is the best footwear for hiking to these caches? Will trail sandles or tennis shoes work or should we pack hiking boots? At this point we probably won't be doing the lava hike. Thanks!

I'm sorry about my delay in responding. Thank you so much for the ideas. I'm sure that we'll be doing many of them. "Above Waipio Valley" will definately be at the top of the list. Although off topic, what are the other 'must do' activities on the Big Island?

We'll be visiting the Big Island late this September. What caches should we go for while we are there? We'll be there a week and are splitting our time between the West and East coasts. Also, what can we expect from the weather in September? Thanks!
